Recalling simpler times, Glendorn is a place where the quiet pleasures of the past meet the fabulous pampering of today. Dating back to the 1920s, this 1,280-acre estate in the northwestern Pennsylvania town of Bradford continues to be family run, and as such offers a kind of hospitality unmatched by larger hotels. A selection of guest rooms and suites in the Big House or individual cabins with wood-burning fireplaces mean good old-fashioned comfort, while a Relais & Chateaux affiliation assures a dedication to perfecting the innâ€(TM)s distinctive neo-global cuisine.

My husband and I spent 3 lovely nights in the Dorn Suite, which is located on the second floor of the main house. It requires climbing stairs. I had wonderful deep sleeps & felt so refreshed each morning. Our room was very quiet & comfortable. Our spacious suite included a living room, sun room, vintage kitchen nook with fridge and microwave, and 2 fireplaces. Tons of classic books lined the book shelves. The bathroom is vintage as well. While I initially had hoped for a more updated bathroom, I quickly enjoyed the charm of it. Cell phone service is spotty in the area, but Wi-fi was accessible in our room & throughout the main lodge. Previously, we had stayed in the 1st floor Green suite, which is one large room with a kitchenette nook (fridge but no microwave). Both suites are great, but I think I slightly prefer the Dorn suite. The meals were excellent. We enjoyed hiking around the property and offsite in the adjacent Allegheny National Forest. Our massages with Jennifer were phenomenal. The free self-serve ice cream parlor, along with in-room chocolate chip cookies, were fun treats. We definitely will return & maybe try out a cabin next time, though I liked the convenience of being in the beautiful main lodge.

This is the second time my husband and I have stayed at the Glendorn and we’re never disappointed. It’s refined and elegant rustic style is reminiscent of the great Adirondack Camps of the early twentieth century. All of the amenities are luxurious and the staff are friendly and extremely responsive. Wood-burning fireplaces are well stocked with wood and snowshoes were available to us for a quiet hike on the snow covered property. We had fabulous massages by an expert licensed therapist and I even enjoyed a cooking class with the head chef. If you are looking for a relaxing retreat with top notch service and elegant dining this is the place to be!

What a marvelous experience. Although the temperature outside was in the single digits, the atmosphere inside was warm and inviting. We stayed in the Green Room Suite and was pleasantly surprised because we had received a complimentary upgrade. There was no issue with cleanliness or noise levels. We found the service by everyone to be top notch and they seemed to go out of their way to be helpful while still being friendly and engaging. This was our second visit to Glendorn and would be happy to make it a yearly experience.

I'm so sorry to write this rather poor review. As locals, my husband and I had both been to Glendorn to dine years before and enjoyed it. But this year, I wanted to do something special for my birthday, so I asked him to take me to this exclusive resort for lunch. Unfortunately, it didn't match up to previous experiences. Now, my own dish of Caesar salad with white anchovies, along with truffle fries, was quite good. But his burger was quite bad. Our server brought it to the table with apologies for the delay: The chef had to finish it in the oven, she said. My husband himself is a chef and he cringed, for he ordered it medium-rare and juicy. As a result, the dry burger had the texture of overcooked meat loaf. Plus, it was topped with fatty, ill-cooked bacon and a slice of tomato that contained a green core. He used an entire mini-bottle of Heinz ketchup to make it palatable, and is still complaining about it! Guess we won't go there for Christmas dinner after all... On the plus side, the staff we encountered had lovely, courtly manners; we enjoyed the fresh-baked biscuits and excellent Glendorn spring water and were introduced to a marvelous house red which we later sought out at our local state store.
