A Disappointing First Experience at Vineyard Fest

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 12 hours ago

This was my first year attending Vineyard Fest, and my friend and I were genuinely excited. We opted for the VIP package and even booked an overnight stay, expecting a premium experience. Unfortunately, the event did not live up to expectations. VIP entry began at 11 a.m., but drinks weren’t served until noon. It’s hard to understand why a wine-focused event would open an hour before any wine was available—especially when this was clearly known during planning. Once inside, we found very limited food options before the wine service began. The food was subpar at best. We paid a premium for fewer than ten food choices, including a sparse selection of desserts. We were honestly shocked and even walked the grounds again thinking we had missed something—but no such luck. We ended up leaving the event to find food elsewhere. As wine lovers, we were also disappointed with the wine offerings. The “better” wines were supposedly reserved for VIP guests, yet even those selections were underwhelming. The only exclusive dish was an undercooked scallop served over a small salad—hardly what you’d expect from a VIP culinary experience. There were no wine pairing sessions or demonstrations, aside from a single white port session that was easy to miss unless you happened to be nearby. We were able to visit every vendor in under an hour, which speaks volumes about how little there was to explore. It’s difficult to believe Chateau Elan considers this event worth more than $40. We even spoke with a couple who had attended Vineyard Fest in previous years and were stunned by the decline in quality. They, too, said they wouldn’t return at this level. Had we not prepaid for the room, we would have left early and driven home. It was a deeply disappointing experience, and I’m genuinely surprised that Chateau Elan is comfortable putting its name on this event. I will not be attending again.

Spent my birthday here with a group of friends and we had an amazing time! Grounds are absolutely gorgeous, food was delicious and the wine was flowing!

Unexpected and Would Not Recommend

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

I decided to celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary at Chateau Elan. Let me begin by saying that I have stayed in some beautiful places, to include Washington DC, Napa, Rome, Paris, Capri, etc., so I have some knowledge of exceptional experiences and services offered at award-winning and beautiful wineries/resorts/hotels. Based on this knowledge, I believe the experience offered at Chateau Elan to be overpriced. The grounds are undoubtedly beautiful and that initially set the tone for what I believed would be a phenomenal experience. As we were hungry upon arrival (Friday afternoon), my husband and I went to the Marc Restaurant. The portion sizes were smaller than expected, no sides provided, and the quality of the items were not top tier (IMO). I also encountered an issue causing me to send an item back to the Kitchen. What ultimately surprised me is that item was not removed from the final bill. On a more positive note, the mushroom ravioli and the creme brulee were delicious. After dinner, we enjoyed quiet time sitting around the beautiful fire pit area. The suite was also beautiful (although the view of the roof left much to be desired and this information was not provided when we booked the suite) and the full winery tours were completely unavailable for guests of the inn for Saturday and Sunday. There weren't a lot of other options of things to do on-premises, so I spent all Saturday in the suite. That Saturday morning, I ordered in-room dining. I specifically ordered 2 omelets, toast, breakfast potatoes, 6 cups of juice and fruit. The food was supposed to be delivered within 45 minutes to 1 hour. I ordered the food at 9:37 am, and it didn't arrive until 10:54 am. The omelets were dry, we received no toast, no ketchup for the potatoes or butter/jam for toast that was supposed to have been delivered, and the food was "close to" cold (we were provided with salt and pepper). Our bill was approx. $140! I have no issue paying this amount for a delicious meal, but when it isn't...and after paying $230 for a so-so meal the previous evening... Further, the in-room dining for lunch wasn't much better. That evening, as we had been so disappointed with the food, we ordered Jersey Mike's sub sandwiches for dinner. By now I'm sure you can tell our goal was not to leave the premises for the entire weekend, but that did not work out very well. Finally, before we checked out, the housekeeping staff were trying to rush us out of the suite early when checkout wasn't until 11:00 am. The checkout experience was quick and easy and the car show on Sunday was an extra added treat. We enjoyed that immensely. I have heard great things about the spa, but I did not utilize this service during our visit. Overall, based on our experience at Chateau Elan, I would have to say that I would not personally recommend it to others. I believe a day trip for a wine tasting and maybe a sunset viewing experience would be fantastic, but not an overnight stay or for their version of fine dining. There are so many other options in and around the Atlanta area for fine dining.

Not at all what I expected. Noise at night prevented good sleep. Screaming children and party guests Food service poor. Quality and delivery not as expected. Rooms in our group had roaches and gnats Understaffed. A resort that seems to not be able to deliver on promises.

Did Not Meet Our Expectation

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

It was our Anniversary celebration - the hotel room (308) that we stayed is dated. Renovation and updating definitely needed. There are no smart TVs (could not use my Netflix acct, etc), and guest must to pay $24.99 to watch extremely old movies??? Chateau you can do better than average!!! The curtain would not close properly - however, maintenance took care of that issue immediately. The food was ok, not fantastic. For the price paid, we were anticipating an overall WOW experience - that did not happen! Many Hilton properties and other luxury hotels exceed the Chateau Elan experience. We would not spend the night again. The Staff overall excellent. Note: The Spa experience was also excellent!
