FORESTIS is located in a densely wooded area, 1,800 m above sea-level, with a view of the Dolomites. The area’s unique and outstanding natural character had already prompted the Austrian monarchy to establish a tuberculosis sanatorium at precisely this special site. FORESTIS lies in a sheltered sunny location on the southern slope of the Plose mountain in the South Tyrolean Alps, directly opposite the impressive massifs of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site. The extraordinarily pure Plose spring water, fresh mountain air, many sunny days and mild climate, where Adriatic currents meet air masses from the North, have a favourable effect upon the health and well-being.

For a hotel that trades on views and price point, FORESTIS lacks the one thing true luxury requires: a deep understanding of guest experience. Front-of-house staff need far better training in how to treat well-travelled international guests — from tone of voice, to cultural sensitivity, to the basics of hospitality like not suggesting a pregnant guest walk down a hill or placing champagne in the room of non-drinkers. The Dolomites are serene, but the service here is inconsistent, inexperienced, and inattentive — not suitable for travellers used to Eastern hospitality or the standards of world-class luxury. This was a disappointing stay. FORESTIS failed to meet the basic expectations of luxury hospitality. We would not return, and cannot recommend it to travellers who value service. Choose a true luxury hotel — one that treats people as valued guests, not transactions. There are many other properties in the area that have luxury views and a better reputation and experience in hospitality and service.

1. Travel Disruption and Poor Communication We travelled to FORESTIS from Venice by train, which unfortunately broke down, delaying us by over 3 hours. We had pre-booked a hotel-arranged taxi due to claims that no transport would be available at arrival — which was misleading, as we later discovered a taxi rank outside the station charging significantly less. We immediately notified the hotel via WhatsApp and phone about the delay. Instead of offering empathy or assistance, we were informed that we would be charged €50 per hour for the delay and €100 for the journey — even though the driver is a hotel employee. 2. Hostile Welcome and Lack of Empathy Upon arrival, we were met with hostility from the front-of-house manager, Omar. Rather than being welcomed after a stressful journey, we were accused of lying about the train delay — something clearly outside our control. Attempts to discuss the excessive transport fees were dismissed; Omar interrupted repeatedly and stated, “This is not a negotiation.” There was no acknowledgment that I was five months pregnant, no recognition of travel fatigue, and no effort to provide basic comfort. When we invited the manager to sit with us in the reception area, he chose to stand over us, escalating the tension. We voiced that we were feeling unwelcome and overwhelmed, yet he refused to give us space. At one point, he physically stepped in front of another staff member to prevent me from speaking with her. When asked to speak to the general manager, he falsely claimed he was the most senior figure on-site — only later admitting he was not. The emphasis was entirely on costs, logistics and penalties, not on care, hospitality, or basic emotional intelligence. 3. Misleading Massage Booking & Cancellation Charges Before arrival, we were urged to pre-book massages due to limited availability. When we asked if we could decide on arrival, the request was ignored and the massage was confirmed via WhatsApp — with no formal confirmation. Given our delay, it was clear we would not make the appointment. We informed the hotel at 3:00 PM and only arrived at 8:15 PM — yet were still reminded of cancellation charges. When we questioned the lack of confirmation, we were told to take it up with American Express, despite no formal record of the booking being sent. 4. Luxury Without Genuine Hospitality Although the hotel showed flexibility in dispatching a car, the service at check-in was entirely transactional. Staff appeared inexperienced and poorly trained in handling guests with care or respect. At €1,000 per night, this felt wholly out of place. Luxury is more than a view — it’s about how people are made to feel. And at FORESTIS, we felt invisible, unimportant, and unwelcome. 5. Dining Experience The dining was overall fine, though underwhelming for a property of this calibre. Dishes lacked depth in flavour and creativity, and the service didn’t meet expectations for well-travelled international guests. That said, we appreciated the team’s effort to accommodate off-menu requests — a small gesture that did not go unnoticed and is worth acknowledging. 6. Staff Shout-Out Credit to the junior spa and restaurant staff who were warm, professional, and courteous. Their genuine attitude and effort stood in sharp contrast to the front-of-house experience. Final Verdict This was a disappointing stay. FORESTIS failed to meet the basic expectations of luxury hospitality. We would not return, and cannot recommend it to travellers who value professionalism, empathy, and service. Choose a true luxury hotel — one that treats people as valued guests, not transactions.

We loved every minute at Forestis! We stayed in a tower suite (room 372) that offered stunning views of the mountains that truly took our breath away. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a wonderful outdoor terrace where we loved to relax. Giada warmly welcomed us and assisted with our check-in, she gave us a tour of the property and showed us to our room. Our reservation included breakfast and dinner which worked well for us - only minor complaint that dinners were slow, perhaps the pacing could be sped up a bit. The breakfast spread was beautiful each morning with a combination of a vast buffet and a la carte options. Enrico took wonderful care of us in the dining room, along with help from others including Davi. All of the bar staff were amazing - each were so knowledgable and loved to share their craft with us. They even brought over small pours of unique cocktails just to try. The concierge helped to secure a hiking guide for us who was wonderful and definitely added to our trip. We enjoyed massages in the spa after a long day of hiking which was a lovely way to relax and unwind. The spa and pool area are gorgeous also looking out at the beautiful views. Additionally, on our last day we had a bit of car trouble and they helped us out by taking care of it for us. This was especially helpful considering the remote location. All of the staff were warm and attentive. We can't say enough wonderful things about our time at Forestis - it was a very special experience!

We had been dreaming of visiting Forestis for years, and I’m thrilled to say it not only lived up to the hype—it surpassed every expectation. From the moment we arrived, everything was perfect: the views, the architecture, the service, the food, the spa—this hotel delivers on every level of luxury and serenity. We stayed in one of the Tower Suites, and I can't recommend it enough. The panoramic views of the Dolomites from the room are simply breathtaking—easily among the best I’ve ever experienced anywhere in the world. Mornings were spent enjoying the extraordinary breakfast spread (don’t skip it), and evenings began with aperitivo on the back terrace, watching the sun dip behind the mountains—an absolute highlight of each day. We booked the room and board package, which includes dinner each night in the beautiful restaurant. Every meal felt like a special occasion—elegant, thoughtful, and deeply rooted in the region. We also enjoyed hiking directly from the hotel, with two standout days on the trails: one covering 9 miles and another 6. The area is a dream for active travelers who want to combine movement with moments of pure rest. Forestis is best suited for those looking for luxury, peaceful seclusion, and access to nature. It’s not the place for nightlife or hustle, and that’s exactly why it’s so magical. Even the nearby lunch spots we visited while hiking were delightful—authentic and delicious. A few special mentions are deserved: Davide, Bruno, Enrico, Davi, and the General Manager, Günther, made our stay feel truly personal and warm. Their hospitality and attention to detail added an extra layer of magic. If I had to find anything to critique, it would be these minor points: the laundry service is shockingly expensive, and while the staff is always helpful and friendly, not everyone was deeply knowledgeable about the local hikes (a more robust concierge-style trail guide would be a welcome addition). But these are incredibly small notes in what was an otherwise flawless experience. Forestis is a place I will dream of returning to. It’s a rare blend of design, comfort, nature, and impeccable service—one of the best hotel experiences I’ve ever had.

We spent a few unforgettable days at Forestis as a couple – including a beautiful surprise birthday breakfast with a decorated table, sweet touches from the kitchen, and truly warm service. So thoughtful! Our Tower Suite had breathtaking views and total peace. The spa was outstanding – especially the forest sauna and the outdoor pool overlooking the Dolomites. Breakfast and dinner were both culinary highlights: local, seasonal, and full of creativity. Forestis is a place to unwind, celebrate, and connect. We'll definitely be back!
