Good location but not clean!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

Good location, right on beachfront but cleanliness is lacking which is a shame. Room was ok, smallish size. Bath was very difficult to get into, what were they thinking fitting such a small area of the screen to enter the bath. I really struggled!!!!! Cleanliness was a shame. Carpet had not been hoovered from previous stay/s with lots of hairs and stains on the carpet. Do better please.

Another great visit!

My daughter and myself came for the 'Buy a Gift' Bottomless Brunch - this was my second time - I absolutely recommend it!! We were looked after so, so well by Oliver Divine this time around - he was so attentive! This hotel with its terrace overlooking the sea is a perfect location. Thank you so much once again Oliver! Will be back again some time!

Enjoyed the stay

My rating is 5! The hotel, cleanliness, and staff work - everything was top-level! I really liked the room and the surprise for my boyfriend’s birthday :) I wish this hotel success and hope their guests leave only the highest ratings - they truly deserve it!

FABULOUS. Thank you Emily...X

WOW. 10/10 for such a fabulous overnight stay here. I would like to give a huge shout out to Emily on Reception and her colleagues who looked after my sister and I with such care and attention to detail. Thank you so much girls. You were all wonderful. Professional, kind, happy and Emily could not do enough for us throughout our stay. Such a joy. We were upgraded without any question or worry after I had previously spoken to Hilton staff regarding a different stay that had issues. Thank you to the Guest Specialist Team also. Our room was simply divine. We felt like royalty. The location is fabulous. Breakfast was spot on. The girls made sure we had all of the info regarding the facilities and they booked us a cab when we left and they all waved us off with cheery smiles and they genuinely cared. Thank you so much. The room was spotless and quiet, with the sea shining gloriously down the street.

Once a Hilton, now firmly on-the-up as a DoubleTree

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I've now stayed at this hotel a couple of times in recent months (although experienced it plenty of times when it was a not-so-great Hilton). For context, the hotel underwent a major refurb which took years and years, before it was then re-flagged a Doubletree. Under the new brand, the changes have been very clear to see. Firstly the refurb has been excellent - in both of my recent stays, I was on the 6th floor in rooms which were clean, comfortable, spacious and smart. Most recently, as part of my HH status, I received a room upgrade to a very pleasant room. Well-appointed, it had a slightly separate area within which to relax. More than a bedroom, but not a suite, this was a very comfortable configuration. Previously the rooms suffered from poor quality air conditioning and very temperamental hot water. Not any more - the refurbishment seems to have fixed all of that too. Sleep quality was pretty decent - the room was cool and quiet. I took breakfast in the morning. The hotel has long had an 'egg chef' at breakfast, making eggs to order, which is so much nicer than sorrowful vats of scrambled egg, left out for hours - as most hotels serve up. Breakfast was well-organised, efficient and with a variety of options for all appetites and tastes. I should note that whilst this review relates to my April 2025 stay, during my Feb 2025 stay (the first as a Doubletree) I took advantage of the bar for dinner in the evening. This perhaps wasn't quite as good as it was, when the hotel was a Hilton, but pleasant nonetheless. Returning to this stay, I found the front-of-house staff very effective. I'd arrived late but messaged ahead of time on the app. The messages were responded to and everything was ready for my arrival. Check-out was quite busy, so I used the express checkout. My concluding impression is that this hotel seems to be doing a much better job as a Doubletree, than it ever did as a Hilton. It seems like the DT brand is a better fit for the Metropole and the refurbishment has certainly returned the hotel to a high standard. Let's hope standards can be maintained. Overall - recommended and I'll certainly consider it next time I'm in Sussex.
