Known as the Venice of the North, the quaint streets of Bruges, Belgium are postcard-picture perfect. Part of the Dutch speaking part of Belgium known as Flanders, Bruges is a medieval city replete with city walls, winding cobblestone streets, bustling town squares, and beautiful canals lined with homes that look like gingerbread cutouts. In the heart of it all find a gem in The Hotel Heritage, where old world refinement and luxury meet modern pampering and indulgence. The Heritage is a haven of comfort and style in this romantic city of canals and history. Recently The Hotel Heritage successfully completed a full renovation of its four suites, and has designed a new lounge, named Le Magnum. This new lounge is a bar concept located inside the 24-room hotel, with the ambience of a private club featuring elegant banquettes and a small library.

We cannot say enough about the wonderful team at Hotel Heritage. Every member of staff was incredibly helpful, supporting us through months of back-and-forth while planning a special occasion. They went far beyond what we expected, even stepping in to help when a handbag was left behind at a restaurant just before leaving Bruges. The hotel itself is beautiful, and the location is perfect, but it’s the people who truly make it. If you need an extra nudge, this is it, book now. Thank you to everyone at Hotel Heritage.

I am a frequent traveler to Belgium and have always appreciated the standards associated with Relais & Châteaux. In fact, this brand has been one of my absolute favorites for years, which makes this experience at Hotel Heritage even more disappointing. Two years ago, my stay here was exceptional — refined service, attention to detail, and a true sense of hospitality that fully matched the Relais & Châteaux reputation. What I encountered this time, however, was the complete opposite. The level of service has declined dramatically. Staff interactions felt distant, inattentive, and at times even dismissive. There is a noticeable lack of professionalism and, more importantly, a lack of genuine care for guests. Basic hospitality standards seem to have disappeared entirely. The atmosphere of the hotel has also changed — it no longer feels like a refined luxury property, but rather something far more casual and unpolished. This shift is deeply concerning for a property carrying the Relais & Châteaux name. The dining experience was equally disappointing. The quality and creativity of the food have clearly declined and no longer reflect the level one would expect from a hotel associated with fine dining excellence. It raises serious questions about maintaining any claims of high gastronomic standards. It is honestly difficult to understand how this property continues to represent such a prestigious brand. Instead of upholding its values, it now undermines them. Sadly, this experience has completely changed my perception. I will not be returning, and I can no longer recommend this hotel to others expecting the standards traditionally associated with Relais & Châteaux.

We stayed at Relais & Châteaux Hotel Heritage expecting a true 5-star luxury experience, but unfortunately the reality felt closer to a solid 4-star hotel rather than what is advertised. While the hotel presents itself as a high-end property, the overall level of service and facilities did not fully reflect that positioning. In our opinion, the experience did not match the expectations created by its 5-star rating. The rooms, although comfortable in some aspects, felt quite dated and showed noticeable signs of wear and aging, which affected the overall impression of quality and maintenance. Breakfast was one of the weaker points of the stay. The selection felt quite limited for a hotel of this category, and we were left wanting more variety and better quality options. We also dined at the hotel, and while the food was acceptable, it did not stand out. Service at dinner was quite slow, with around 25 minutes waiting time for the main course, which felt long considering the level of hotel being advertised. Overall, the property has potential and a good location, but the execution in terms of service, food, and room condition does not fully align with a true 5-star standard. It felt more like a high 4-star experience rather than luxury 5-star hospitality.

We loved everything about our stay at Relais & Chateaux Brugge, the staff were so helpful and friendly, the rooms, bar, restaurant were sensational, especially the breakfast. Loved everything about it.

We stayed here with friends and really enjoyed the elegant yet relaxed atmosphere of the hotel. The historic character of the building adds a lot of charm, while the common areas feel comfortable for spending time together. Our rooms were well maintained, quiet, and comfortable, which made it easy to unwind after a day exploring Bruges. Even though the hotel feels refined, it didn’t feel stiff or overly formal, which worked well for a group stay. The location is convenient for walking around the city, and returning to such a calm setting in the evening was a nice contrast to the busy streets outside. Overall, a pleasant choice for friends looking for comfort and character in the heart of Bruges.
