Weekend Trip to Brussels

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

For a weekend trip to Brussels, my wife and I booked a Junior Suite at Le Plaza Hotel. At first glance, the hotel offers exactly what one would expect from a historic grand hotel: classic charm, spacious interiors, and an atmosphere that strongly reflects the elegance of a bygone era. At the same time, it quickly becomes apparent that the hotel has aged over the years. Several areas show signs of wear and would clearly benefit from a comprehensive renovation. With targeted investment and modernization, the hotel could certainly regain the standards expected of a five-star property. The architectural substance and the overall atmosphere already provide a strong foundation for that. One positive aspect is the condition of the rooms. Our Junior Suite was clean and well maintained, and the beds were particularly comfortable. A good night’s sleep was therefore guaranteed, which is an important factor for any hotel stay. However, the location is a point that deserves some criticism. The hotel is situated directly on one of Brussels’ main shopping streets, which is very convenient during the day and makes exploring the city on foot quite easy. In the evening, however, the atmosphere in the surrounding area changes noticeably. Later at night, individuals who gave a somewhat uncomfortable impression tended to gather around the hotel and in the surrounding streets. During our stay, we could hear loud shouting from the street outside our room, and at one point a glass bottle was thrown or smashed. Situations like this understandably take away from the sense of comfort and relaxation. Personally, I would be cautious about walking alone in this area late at night. Another aspect worth mentioning is the service experience. The staff appeared rather reserved. When I checked out, for example, I was not asked whether everything had been satisfactory or whether anything noteworthy had occurred during our stay. A simple follow-up question of that kind would have demonstrated greater attentiveness to the guest experience. In this regard, I would have expected a more proactive and engaged approach from the hotel staff. Overall, the hotel itself is not a bad choice and certainly has its charm thanks to its historic character. Nevertheless, both the need for renovation, the nighttime atmosphere in the immediate surroundings, and the somewhat distant service prevent the experience from being entirely convincing.

Nicely located

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The hotel is old and nicely decorated but not very friendly for pushchairs or wheelchairs. the staff are very nice and helpful. Parking in the hotel is very expensive and if you happen to use the other levels of parking not the ground floor one, be careful because the lift is not too wide.

Great hotel, clean, and great location

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Most amazing experience! Beautiful entry way. Large rooms, which were absolutely spotless. They were somewhat basic, and outdated in terms of decor but I was very happy. Lovely bed and sheets too. And the bathroom was a great size. We had three in a room, and were pleasantly surprised to find that there was a a separate bed in a small separate room that connected to the main room. This gave us more room and some privacy and space. Staff were helpful, whilst not very attentive as some prefer. The area is great and within walking distance to everything. It is near the shops and two shopping centres - one’s luxury one and one with high street names and a supermarket. This is about a 3 minute walk. Also within walking distance to all the sites. The area was very convenient - it was a little be dodgy at night (we encountered some pickpockets tho had nothing stolen) so be careful.
