Based on the hotel's 5 star rating and cost we were expecting more. We arrived at the hotel around midnight due to train delays only to find the doors locked. After a few minutes someone helped us open the door, he seemed security guard, but no luggage assistance. The room itself was meh, felt a bit dirty. There was a lot of road noise in the room and we came to find out this was primarily because the window was open and would not securely close. The shower did not drain properly. The breakfast was mediocre and no one bothered to let us know that we could order an omelet from the kitchen. The hotel itself looks historic I'm sure was great at some point but it seems like to service and care for the hotel are lacking.

WONDERFUL stay at the Steigenberger Wiltcher’s!!!!! Check in was effortless and pleasant. They delivered chocolates to our room shortly after check in. Breakfast bar was the best I’ve seen and the evening meal in the onsite restaurant was superb!! Thank you to the ‘local artist’ who was our waiter. I can’t remember his name but he was fantastic!!! Extremely pleasant and helpful. The location is near Brussels attractions and an easy walk to all. Definitely a 5 star experience and we will be back!! Thank you!

Excellent hotel overall, with a great location, comfortable rooms and very good room service. The value for money was also strong for this category of hotel in Brussels. A special mention goes to the porter working late in the evening, shortly before midnight. He was professional, helpful and gave a very good first impression. The weaker point was the inconsistency of the service. Check in around 23:30 took almost ten minutes, although the hotel was not busy at that hour. The receptionist seemed more tired than the guests and asked unnecessary questions about payment and prepayment. He also could not clearly confirm whether breakfast was included in the reservation; I had to clarify the question twice. For a five star hotel, it is essential that reception staff are able to explain the reservation clearly and anticipate what the guest needs to know. Breakfast showed a similar inconsistency. Seating was not handled particularly smoothly, the coffee machines had issues, and the self service concept for coffee is questionable at this level of hotel. Around 10:00, one hour before breakfast closing time, some food items were already limited or unavailable, which should not happen in a hotel of this category. The reception desk was also unevenly staffed. At certain times there were four agents present, but during peak check out time around noon on Sunday, only two agents were available and guests had to queue. The valet parking service was also inconsistent. Sometimes someone was available; most of the time, not. In summary: an excellent hotel in terms of location, rooms, room service and general comfort, but the service level depends too much on the circumstances. With more consistent reception, breakfast and valet service, it would be much closer to the five star standard it aims to represent.

My husband and I spent 3 nights at the Steigenberger as part of a Viking company post river cruise package. It's definitely a 5-star hotel with luxurious furnishings throughout, very helpful and friendly staff who speak good English, and well maintained, very clean rooms. Ours was on the 2nd floor and faced a side street which was fairly quiet. The room was huge, as well as the bathroom which had both a shower and a large tub, and double sinks with plenty of counter space. We had 2 queen beds as no king room was available, but there was plenty of room to move around, and everything was well maintained and equipped. There were bathrobes and slippers, a safe, a coffee maker with pods, teas, and a small fridge that came equipped with beverages and snacks (for an additional charge). The beds were very comfortable with duvets and extra pillows, there was a desk and a table with chairs, a large closet with safe, quality toiletries, and really everything we could need. I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel for a luxurious stay if you're willing to pay the price, as it's definitely not cheap. We noticed that VIPS in town for the NATO and EU meetings at the local headquarters also stay here, as they were escorted by police to and from the hotel each day. There are plenty of restaurants and shops within easy walking distance as well as an onsite restaurant that served an expansive and delicious breakfast buffet (included in our package). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
