Absolutely stunning hotel stayed in premium room . So comfortable and accommodating. Lots of little extravagant extras. Must go b & b as breakfast is another level . Big shout out to Kristof at breakfast who was so helpful and friendly. All staff are amazing - the nicest 3 night break.

Build in 1898 by the New York Life Insurance company, this was built to be the most impressive hotel (and Hungarian headquarters) of NY Life. The decor throughout is spectacular. Purists may complain that it is a mish-mash of styles (Italian Renaissance, gothic, baroque, and art nouveau) , but you have to admit it is impressive. Gilt abounds, high ceilings and statuary everywhere. Even the elevators are gilded and mirrored to the nth degree. Our room (4th floor) was huge - very spacious with a giant walk-in closet and marble bathroom (with separate tub and shower, separate toilet and bidet). Not cheap, but not excessively priced. We booked a 3-night stay for about 1100 Euros. When I asked at reception where I could get distilled water for my CPAP machine, instead they produced two bottles gratis. Service matches the decor - immaculate waiters in black and white vests and ties are prompt, helpful and friendly. Breakfast can be included for 25 Euros per person per day, which we recommend - purchasing a la carte would be quite a bit more expensive. NOTE - you need to add the breakfast option the day before, or it is 35 Euros if you do it in the morning before breakfast. Breakfast was excellent with a very large buffet choice of Hungarian foods as well as traditional omelets, fruits, etc. Our first night (after a long flight from California thru Munich to Budapest), we had a lovely meal in the hotel bar, where you can order from a bar menu (basically appetizers off the main restaurant menu) or you can actually order from the full restaurant menu.
