Memorable stay in Budapest

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 18 hours ago

We stayed at Anantara New York Palace Budapest Hotel as a family with our 7-year-old child, and we were absolutely delighted with our experience. From the moment we arrived, we felt the warmth, care, and true hospitality of the entire team. The hotel itself is simply breathtaking. The architecture, the beautiful interiors, and the atmosphere make it a very special place. Our room was exceptionally clean, elegant, and comfortable. Everything we could possibly need was thoughtfully provided — from all the necessary bathroom amenities to small but very appreciated details like umbrellas in the room. The breakfast experience was unforgettable. The beautiful dining hall and live music create a truly magical atmosphere, and the selection of food was both diverse and delicious. Every morning felt like a special occasion. Throughout our stay, we felt cared for in every way. All our requests were listened to and handled very quickly. We especially appreciated the family-friendly approach: our child received his own room key, which made him feel very special, and children are welcome to enjoy the hotel spa during daytime hours. We would also like to give special thanks to Mark, the bartender at The Poet Bar, for making our evening even more memorable. He was incredibly kind, polite, and attentive. He went above and beyond by creating a special drink for our child according to his request, even though it was not on the menu. Our little one was absolutely happy — and happy child means happy parents! 😊 Thank you, Mark, for your care and for creating such a wonderful experience for our family. Overall, we had an amazing stay and truly enjoyed every moment. The hotel is so beautiful and welcoming that, honestly, we sometimes didn’t even want to leave and explore the city. 😄 Thank you to the entire team of Anantara New York Palace Budapest Hotel for making our family trip so special. We would love to come back again!

Spectacular

This is a spectacular hotel in every way. I can’t think of a hotel I have been in around the world with more of a wow factor. Originally the head office of an insurance company - they must have been making a fortune as opulent doesn’t quite do it. It has been remodelled and restored to the highest standard and works really well as a hotel. The greeting from the staff was lovely as was check in. The staff couldn’t have been nicer. We had a room on the 7th floor which was amazing. This is the newer part of the hotel which is beautiful. There was a huge marble clad bathroom and a sun terrace. The breakfast area is something else. Again I would use the word opulent. The breakfast and staff were lovely. The only comment I would make is in relation to the New York Cafe. Whilst linked to the hotel it is a different experience from a service perspective. The food was great but we saw a few people waiting for their orders or their orders being forgotten. To be fair the cafe is a tourist attraction and very busy. Budapest is an amazing city with a fascinating history. Unfortunately we were only there for a couple of days and on these days it was 40 degrees meaning it wasn’t possible to walk the streets for any length of time. However, we saw the main sites via a bus tour. If you are in Budapest I would strongly recommend a visit to the hotel. If you are not staying in the hotel I would still recommend the New York Cafe.

Beautiful Hotel - But Not Five Star Service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The hotel is stunning. The New York Cafe really is beautiful - epitomizing the Belle Epoque era. We loved our rooms - we were upgraded to a junior suite and we paid the upcharge to upgrade my parents' room too. Theirs was impressive - with a grand bathroom that my mother especially appreciated. However, street noise was very noticeable even late into the night. The location isn't as nice as I would have preferred but not bad. It wasn't as central and the surrounding area was less upscale than expected. Marton at the front desk, and the chef Zoli at the egg station, were excellent - friendly, warm, and very helpful. I think the housekeeping staff was friendly too and did a good job. They were the exceptions, however. I didn't find most of the staff to be very welcoming, accommodating, or genuinely warm. The front desk at the initial check-in did not make me feel that welcome, the porters (except for one) in general barely greet you, and the New York cafe breakfast staff is not that attentive. In one case, one of the assistant servers was surly when she gave us the wrong order and had to go back to get the correct one. We have stayed at several five-star hotels this year, and the service was impeccable at all except for this one.
