They say this is the best hotel in Buenos Aires and I can believe that. The concierge service (thank you Ignacio and the older guys on the team!) is outstanding. They act with efficiency and humour. The room is excellent with a deep tub and air con that is not too noisy. We ate a lunch and dinner in the lobby bar and service was slick and friendly.

Absolutely perfect! We travel a lot and this hotel really stands out from others. Beautiful suite, amazing staff who were immediately responsive, fantastic amenities, luxurious regal architecture, and a fantastic buffet breakfast. Additionally, the hotel is in a great location, just a block from la Recoleta and surrounded by excellent restaurants like Fervor or Lima, We definitely will not be staying anywhere else than at the Alvear Palace when we return to Buenos Aires.

I stayed at Alvear Palace for four nights. The hotel is in the upscale Recoleta neighborhood, close to the cemetery and high end shops. It has a grand old-world vibe to it...feels a bit like stepping back in time. I had room 638 which did not face the street. The large room was in three sections, an office space, living room and bedroom. Even though there was just one window the overhead chandeliers were bright. The bed linens were embossed and newish...as were the towels. There weren't as many power outlets as is typical in a more modern hotel and some of the light fixtures were crooked or damaged. And the pillows were feathered but it would have been nice to have a menu to change if I wanted foam or hypoallergenic. The bathroom was large with a standalone shower, tub, toilet and bidet. There is a grate under the sink where you can hear the water from the sink and shower drain into...startled me at first as I thought the room was flooding. It wasn't, but that is something we dont have in American bathrooms. The shower pressure was glorious but the shower head was unfocused so water went everywhere. I asked them to have maintenance take a look and when I got back to my room I had a new shower head that worked perfectly. The breakfast buffet was not extensive but the food was hot and tasty. They had fresh toast, scrambled eggs, bacon/sausage, vegetables, cold cuts, fruit and an assortment of breads/pastries. Omlettes cost extra and were made to order. The service at Alvear was impeccable...which I note as I am Black American and was traveling solo. Every single staff member went out of their way to greet me and assist. Front Desk staff were excellent and spoke fluent English. Every single ask I made was promptly and accurately handled. Asked for 7:30 luggage pickup...bellhop knocked on my door exactly at 7:30. Asked to break a $100 bill, I came downstairs to find they had precounted and set aside $100 in small bills. They arranged airport pickup and transport to a tango show. Even got my laundry done. Top notch service. If you are looking for a hip hotel, Alvear Palace is not for you. But if you like grand historic lodging...book at Alvear. I would definitely stay here again.

Having stayed at several hotels in the same category as Alvear Palace, we had high expectations of the hotel based on reviews. However, compared to other similarly priced hotels that we stayed in, the hotel fell extremely short of what should be expected of a hotel of this category. Not only was the service heartless and slow, there were also clear issues with basics for a 5-star hotel. First, there is no kettle or coffee machine in the room. We requested a kettle and tea bags to be brought to the room only to be surprised by a charge for room service the following day. This was added to our bill without any signature. Furthermore, the breakfast is questionable. The only eggs included in the breakfast buffet are stale and taste strange. Any additional items such as poached eggs or omelettes are charged at additional cost. I have not encountered this in any other hotels on our 14-day trip in Argentina. These are just examples and I would heartedly discourage anyone from spending their money here when there are much better hotels just around the corner.
