Situated in Tuscany, overlooking the Valdinievole valley between the cities of Lucca and Pistoia, La Monastica Resort & Spa offers the experience of refined, soothing, and regenerating relaxation.
An exclusive, private boutique hotel, housed in a 16th-century monastery, in an inhabited medieval village, it is the ideal destination for a holiday that infuses wellbeing, surrounded by history and immersed in nature.
The village has preserved its original appearance: a medieval cluster of stone buildings and narrow streets which invite you to explore and take time to recover your natural rhythm. Away from traffic, steeped in history and enveloped in music and the beauty of nature, it instills a feeling of comfort, privacy, and serenity.

We stayed at La Monastica Resort & Spa for a long weekend and it was truly one of the dreamiest experiences we’ve ever had. This place is an old monastery, lovingly restored and transformed by an Italian family into a tasteful, intimate resort and spa — and you can feel the care and authenticity in every detail. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by the loveliest staff, who made sure every moment felt special and relaxing. The property itself is breathtaking: ancient stone walls, peaceful cloisters, original stained glass windows, and stunning church ceilings now house cozy dining spaces and lounges filled with warmth and character. Every corner has a story to tell. The views over the Tuscan hills are spectacular — perfect for unwinding by the pool or enjoying an evening spritz under the olive trees. The gardens are fragrant with lavender and rosemary, and you might even share the grounds with a friendly resident cat or spot butterflies among the flowers. The food was an absolute highlight — it felt Michelin-level, showcasing local flavors, fresh ingredients, and exquisite presentation. Every meal was memorable. The decor is so thoughtful and beautiful that even the garbage bins are works of art! From vibrant ceramic planters to tastefully repurposed old stone ovens turned into luxurious bathtubs, every detail feels curated and unique. If you’re looking for a romantic, serene, and authentic Tuscan retreat, I can’t recommend La Monastica enough. It’s the perfect weekend getaway to relax, eat unbelievably well, and soak in the magic of Tuscany’s countryside. We can’t wait to come back!

La Monastica is something else. Starting with my favorite feature, the pools that are set right under the bell tower, which offers a peaceful spot to unwind. We had a room with a terrace overlooking the hills where we loved sipping an espresso in the morning while listening to the sound of birds. The breakfast area had stunning views of the surroundings and dinner was set inside of the church which offered such a special dinner experience. As vegetarians, we appreciated how well they catered to vegetarians, even going out of their way to make vegan pastries for us at breakfast. Highly recommend La Monastica, it’s the kind of place that gets the details right.

Absolutely gorgeous sanctuary and must-stay in Tuscany. La Monastica is one of those places that stays with you. We stayed in a clever, well-designed room with a terrace overlooking the Tuscan hills, and waking up to that view was a dream come true. The Devoti restaurant is set both inside the old church and outside with classic Tuscany views. Both were equally stunning. There were plenty of vegetarian options, and the team even prepared vegan croissants and chocolatines for us so we could fully enjoy everything Devoti had to offer. The layered pools are tucked beneath the bell tower and kept at a really comfortable temperature. The staff even arranged a picnic for us on top of the hill next to the tower, which was such a thoughtful touch. We adore when a resort offers the type of luxury where it’s not a stay, but an experience to remember. And staying in a place that used to be home to nuns? That made it all the more special.

A Hidden Gem in the Heart of Tuscany From the moment we arrived at this enchanting boutique hotel, to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary, we were swept away by its charm, elegance and warm hospitality. The staff greeted us like old friends, their attentiveness was unmatched throughout our stay, gracious and always a step ahead without being intrusive. The hotel’s ambience perfectly captured the essence of Tuscany, serene and deeply authentic. Our suite was a masterclass of understated luxury, soft Tuscan linens and a view that could not be surpassed. Simply put, this hotel doesn’t just offer a place to stay, it offers a memory we will treasure for our lifetime. We left dreaming of our return visit. 5 STARS is not enough.
