Christmas Vacation

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

We loved Chileno Bay Resort. We stayed in a 4 bedroom Ocean View Villa with Pool from December 21-28 . We ordered a Christmas tree for the room to be set up before we arrived, and it was perfect. We also ordered some groceries, which were there when we arrived. Our butler, Sergio Garcia (not the golfer), was the nicest guy. We tend to like our privacy and have a son with special needs so prefer to keep things simple for him. Sergio understood this and was the perfect mix of attentiveness and respect of our personal space. He was extremely prompt, and would check in on us each day without being overbearing. We have experienced a lot of resort staff over the years and he is one of the best I have come across. The resort is modern Mexican design, with a gorgeous 450 foot long multi-tiered infinity pool at it's center designed to look like a flowing river. The landscape is stunning, and as a gardener myself, I appreciated the integration of the edible gardens into the beds. The villa was spacious, clean, and perfect for our party of seven. The bedrooms were very large, each with a large ensuite bathroom. We had two kind beds and 4 queens. The beds were sooo comfortable. I looked at the mattresses and they were a Stearns and Foster pillow top series, so I might be ordering one of these for my house! There was ample closet space in the bedrooms, and a safe in each closet. They also left us slippers with each of our names on them, and beach bags and ball caps with our initials and names on them as well, which was a thoughtful idea. The bathrooms are very large, and there are amble toiletries stocked. There is also a laundry room in the villa with a large LG washer and dryer and laundry detergent. The kitchen is stocked with any equipment you might want to use, including a Wolf oven, toaster oven, microwave, and there is a drip coffee machine if you would prefer to make your own coffee (the second master bedroom had a Nespresso in it). The patio is large with a Wolf grill, outside refrigeration, a dining table for 8 and a large sectional. We were able to participate in several restaurant meals and activities (both on and off site) throughout our week. One of the main reasons we came to this resort is because my youngest insisted we needed to be at a place with a basketball court if we were going to travel over winter break. There is a half court that my son happily used each day. There are also multiple pickleball courts that were never crowded, I am assuming perhaps because there is a large pickleball club right down the road in the Chileno Bay golf and beach club neighborhood. The gym is large and they offer reformer classes, amongst others. I would have liked a few extra treadmills in the gym (there are only 2 traditional treadmills), as there isn't really a place to run and I had to wait for one each day. Six of us enjoyed massages at the spa one day, and everyone had positive things to say. As far as restaurants go, we enjoyed Yaya the most, especially their amazing desserts! We were only at Comal for the Christmas prix fixe dinner, which was very good, but we were a bit disappointed that that - other than some decorations at the entry- the dinner itself didn't really have a Christmas theme and the live band only played one Christmas song while we were at dinner. Other activities we participated in were beach snorkeling, the UTV excursion (don't miss this!), the Todos Santos tour, and we also chartered a yacht for a day out of Cabo San Lucas to see the arch, spot some whales and jet ski. The entire week was awesome and we don't have any complaints. I will say it was extremely expensive to stay here during the holiday week, and there are probably places that are just as nice but much more economical to stay at. However, it was convenient, well managed, well maintained and had the most friendly staff ever, so again really no complaints if you can afford the price.

Great vibe, luxurious, romantic and family friendly. Best staff!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

We’ve been here with friends and family. It’s simply the best vibe - very relaxed, luxurious and so approachable. Every single staff member went out of the way to tend to our every need and make the kids feel so special. The beach service is so well run. Everyone is always smiling and you can tell they love their jobs and the guests. Michelle is the best. She took my five year old out to sea bob and got him so he could dive on his own. And she got me rocking on the e-foil…capturing all the moments on the go pro and finding us to share the photos/videos after. Daniel is awesome too along with all the other guys there. The pool service is like having 5 personal butlers wait on your every need. These guys have been at the hotel for years and know exactly how to anticipate your needs. Rodolfo, Ernesto, Gustavo, Juanma, Pilar - just to name a few. And Martha!!! She was so great with the kids. She truly loves kids. The restaurants (Comal and YaYa) are amazing to have within steps of you. Again top notch service. Alexa would ask the kids favorite characters and somehow printed out coloring sheets every day of them so the kids had entertainment while the adults enjoyed a nice dinner together. I can’t say enough about this property and how well run it is from top to bottom.

Thoughtful Luxury with Some Misses

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Overall Take: For the price we paid, we would 100% rebook. We know the Cabo market extremely well, and for value relative to experience, Chileno Bay delivered. It’s a beautiful, modern property that still feels authentically Mexican—but there are several areas where the resort falls short of what seasoned luxury travelers might expect. Pros • Strong value for the price. Relative to other high-end Cabo properties, this felt like a solid return on spend. • Food quality was quite good overall, though they need to be more restrained with salt. • Very comfortable bed — genuinely excellent. • Casita layout was good with ample storage (something I always appreciate). • Room functionality: outlets on one bedside table were perfectly placed (oddly misplaced on the other). • Grounds are stunning — modern, beautifully landscaped, and you still feel very much like you’re in Mexico. Room & Bathroom Notes • Shower pressure was sub-par, which is disappointing at this level. • The bathroom finishes feel underwhelming — the tile choices in particular detract from a luxury feel. • The outdoor shower feels unfinished; adding wood to one wall would elevate it significantly. Cons • Room key feels cheap and doesn’t match the positioning of the resort. • No breakfast buffet, and the team struggles when the restaurant gets crowded. • Fly fans are needed but frequently uncharged or unavailable. • Bath towels are very thin, which feels like an easy miss. • Pool service was the most underwhelming we’ve experienced in Cabo (with one notable exception who was excellent). • No call buttons at the pool • Little to no proactive towel service or chair assistance • Pool bathrooms need better upkeep, especially later in the day. • If you love a grand lobby or lobby bar scene, this isn’t the place — social energy lives entirely in the restaurants. Final Thought Chileno Bay is a beautiful, well-located resort with strong fundamentals and real potential. With improvements to service polish—especially around the pool—and a few design upgrades, it could easily compete with the very top tier in Cabo. For now, it remains a place we’d return to for value, but not for best-in-class luxury execution.

Perfect December getaway

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Excellent resort, great service and fantastic food. Staff were all great, but really nice to see the hotel manager, Paolo, so visible and interacting positively with guests. Martha at the pool was also great with our two young kids (5 and 3 years old). We've stayed at Palmilla as a couple and Las Ventanas twice as a family; while we love Las Ventanas the service on our most recent experience was not great so we tried Chileno and we loved it. For families, Chileno is the best of all 3. Resort is absolutely immaculate in every regard.

Wonderful Time, Beautiful Respite

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Location: Sublime. Rare lovely snorkeling. Rooms: Very comfortable and well located. Value: Absolutely first rate, and expect to pay for that. Restaurants: Yaya was my favorite all around. Comal was wonderful for breakfast with a great view. Dinner had memorable food and yummy desserts. Discovered after-dinner drink Eiswein Gelber Muskateller 2020. Delicious with everything. Thank you Fernando and Alexa for your kind professionalism. Service: Gracias Maxime for being my trip planner extraordinaire. Gracias Fernanda for being accommodating and charming. Adult Pool: Thank you Daniele, Arturo, and Pedro. We appreciate your warm personalities and wonderful service. Spa: Eucalyptus Steam; Himalayan Sea Salt Sauna; Reflexology Fountain all divine. Massage therapist Sylvia very seasoned and all business with her deep tissue massage. More therapeutic than feel good, but perhaps necessary. My daughter and I got exactly what we needed from this vacation: The calm and replenishment that comes from beautiful surroundings; fine food and drinks; and friendly, professional service. We would be more than happy to return.
