OK option in Cabo San Lucas- Timeshare resort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

After 5 nights in Playa Grande Resort I can give a fair review, outlying the positives and the negatives. Pros: -Beautiful resort and excellently maintained -Close proximity to downtown CSL -Food is of high quality -Even the lowest level room is huge, which could fit four people, had a living/dining area, Balcony with partial ocean view, mini kitchen with full size refrigerator, and a large bathroom with deep Jacuzzi size tub, Cons: -Timeshare resort. After you check in one of the timeshare people who loiter in the lobby are right on top of you to pounce. You have to be kind of rude and swerve them. Also, upon checking in I gave a fake phone number and also unplugged the phone in the room except when I needed to use it so I wouldn't be cold called. -If you are not in the all inclusive (which is pricey) food at the resort (along with everything else) is SUPER expensive and all priced in dollars. $35 dollar breakfast buffet, $18 dollar cocktails, and they will always add fees and service charge on top of that, and also expect you to tip twice on top of the service charge. -Poolside activities people could be intrusive and pushy and with loud distracting games and announcements during the day. -Service was hit or miss. Maybe more of a miss because I wasn't tipping 40% on $18 drinks. -If you arrive with Uber or Indrive you can be taken to the door of the hotel but to pick up an Uber or Indrive you have to walk out to the security gate because they won't be let past it. -Most annoyingly, the above policy not only applies to transportation but also delivery services like Rappi, Uber Eats etc. when delivering food, groceries, pharmacy items, etc. They will not let the driver past the security gate and you have to walk all the way out there to get your order. They deliberately make things as difficult as possible since you are not ordering their food or drink or using their onsite market that is outrageously priced. -Cabs back to SJD airport start at $130 US dollars! (There are shared shuttles at certain times but they were not convenient for me. When the bellhop who was assisting me with my baggage upon check out asked me who was picking me up and I said InDrive, his demeanor totally changed and I was treated like a dog turd. I then brought my luggage from the lobby to the security gate to wait for my ride. Sorry but I'm paying 800 pesos to the airport not 130 dollars! I would probably be back if I got a good deal. The resort itself is nice and being close to the Marina and downtown is a plus, especially with the high prices of everything in the resort. Just know what you are getting into.

Another disappointing day to ruin a vacation.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Booked a Sunset Cruise through Playa Grande 2 days ago and this morning, woke up with a gastrointestinal problem. We walked to their tour office to reschedule for the next day ir after and were told we cannot. I asked to talk to the manager and after the rep was on the ohone2x, were told that we have to show a receipt of a doctor’s office visit, go the thenMarina Cruise office and pay $25/person!!! Remember - I’m not feeling well enough to find and go to a doctor then go to the Marina (it’s a HOT DAY!!!) WTF !!!! CABO HAS CHANGED FOR THE WORST !!!! Do yourself a favor- GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!

Calima server, Jose ruined 23 years of great vacation experiences at Playa Grande !

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Let me be clear - this is only a review of Jose, server at Calima. The resort as a whole is fine as we’ve been owners here since 2003 and we love this resort. Anyway, arrived at Calima after 9 hours of travelling. So hungry we went for a quick bite at Calima. Jose, the waiter came and handed us the menu without the beverage menu. My wife asked for it and he response with “What do you want?” UNBELIEVABLE!! So my wife settled on iced tea and proceeded with orders to which we added “please hurry with our orders.” Upon getting our orders, Jose walked away from the kitchen towards some employees and guests having a friendly chat I guess hoping to join in so I reminded him that we are quite hungry. 15 mins later I walked towards the other servers (since Jose was nowhere) and asked for our orders? A server hollerred “Jose!!” Another 10 mins before our orders finally arrived with no salsa for my shrimp burrito and wife’s 3 steak tacos. Of course we had to wait again for the salsas. I asked for the bill right away since by this time we were so disappointed and found out the gratuities are already included! WHY? Tips are to get motivated servers! I hope someone take action about this terrible experience! NOTE: We did not upgrade our membership because of this experience.
