I had been at the Ridge previously when I brought a corporate group from Grand Solmar to the Ridge pool deck for a private group dinner. The view was spectacular and the whole group was in awe. So when my family decided they wanted go to Cabo, I knew just the place. While my husband and I loved Grand Solmar, The Ridge was a choice perfect for the family at a lower price point. My kids are 12 and 17, and my mother and aunt joined us so there were 6 total. The rooms - one of the key factors in any vacation hotel choice is that we like space and hate single hotel rooms where you’re on top of each other - we had two one-bedroom suites, which aside from the two bedroom presidential, I believe that’s all they offer. There is a Murphy bed that comes out of the wall between the tv area and the kitchen counter. They said it was Queen but it looked more like a full/double. Then, there’s also a pull out cot. The Murphy bed had a mattress that was every bit of 6-8” thick, but the cot was more like 3-4”. Then there’s a couch - not quite long enough for my kids when stretched out, but my 17yo daughter preferred the couch - said it was comfy. My son took the Murphy bed. There’s also 2 bathrooms - one near the kitchen when you first walk in and one in the master bedroom. This was a godsend! The smaller one near the kitchen was a full bathroom complete with shower, toilet closet, and sink. However, there is only a hair dryer in the master bathroom. I had read reviews to request A, C or D. We got D and it was great. Our view of the marina was excellent. We were also on pool level so we had no elevators or stairs to take to get to the pool from our room. It worked out perfect. The only downside was that the water was never hot… some days it was luke warm but some days it was cool at best. I am a scalding-hot shower person so I froze daily. We arrived early on check-in day, so our rooms were not ready when we got there. I checked in on our room at noon and again at 2 and it was ready at 2. The concierge and pre planning - a couple weeks before leaving for Cabo, I went on-line and booked ground transportation, had a grocery order of lots of water and beer for us to enjoy before or after the pool. I over ordered, but I’d do it again. The concierge, Cynthia, was extremely helpful with putting in notes for us on our requests for nearby rooms (they put my mom right next to us) and our building choice request (I initially requested A or C but was still happy with D as that was my third option.). She also was great to book dinner reservations for us for the whole week. For transportation, my family and my mom and aunt arrived on different flights, so I had arranged two different private vans for us. I did have to make sure to tell my mom to ask for my name because since I booked it, they couldn’t change the name on the reservation. So that went smoothly for all of us. Not much waiting for the car at the airport for either of us. On the return, we had the same flight, so it was actually cheaper to get the limo vs two vans, so that was a nice surprise for the family as we were leaving. The pools - at the Ridge, they designate two of the three pools as adult only. The infinity pool facing Playa Grande/Pacific Ocean felt more “adult” so I made sure to keep my son out of there. My 17 year old passed as an adult in the adult pool - all she did was read her kindle or look over the edge. The pool with the swim up bar often had older kids with their parents looking over the infinity edge towards the marina, and as long as the kids were quiet and not jumping or bouncing around, the servers let them stay. The family pool below had a slide, so we watched my son go down the slide a million times over and there were never very many kids - you did have to watch though, as one day a bunch of 20-something’s had been drinking (a lot) and going down the slide, so on that day, I had my son join us in the bar pool, but again, staying calm and farther away from the other adults trying to also relax in that pool. We loved these pools because you could always find chairs - even 6 together - maybe not exactly where you wanted but chairs were available. We knew we had Playa Grande at our disposal, but we only used their pools on check-in day while we waited for our room to be ready. Service was great at the pool - we ate breakfast and lunch there almost every day. The food there was really good, too. The only thing that seemed to take forever was getting the bill at breakfast, so if you’re in a hurry, ask for it when your order arrives. Oh, if you like to float, bring your own. Adult floats that are $7 in the US were $47 at the little gift shop, and were $75 at the mall! We finally found noodles at the supermarket in the mall for just a couple bucks but the cost of a plastic inflatable float was bonkers. Meals/Dinners - we had all-inclusive, which was totally worth it. Judging by my total bill that consisted mostly of gratuities, we ate/drank the equivalent of about $4500. Our room with taxes and the all-inclusive plan was a few hundred dollars less than that. My kids drank a lot of virgin pina coladas and strawberry daiquiris and it was nice to not have to think about how many they were getting or what food they ordered - our only rule was to not be wasteful - don’t order it if you can’t eat it. All the dinner restaurants were in Playa Grande, so it was. 10 minute hike to get there. There’s only three restaurants for dinner - the Sports Bar. Calima, and Brigantine, but they do have theme nights so that helped mix it up. We ate at Brigantine as a steakhouse 2x and the food was excellent but know that it’s a long-service restaurant - I think we were there 2-1/2 to 3 hours each time. We participated in both the Mexican Fiesta and the Beach Party - both of which were super fun. The emcee Roberto was excellent and made things that were already funny just downright hilarious. My husband usually hates those types of things but he was cracking up and said “ I hate to admit it, but that was fun.” 😂 The food was as good as buffet food can be. We ate at Calima twice - once on Italian Buffet Night and once at Molcajete and Fajita Night. Both were good although I prefer the Molcajete/fajita over pasta in general, and I always prefer served dishes over buffet. The only negative experience we had was dinner at the sports bar - no one in our party had a good experience with their food, mostly because it tasted like they fried the shrimp, calamari, fries and whatever else in 2 year old oil. It was pretty much inedible and we never went back. With the all-inclusive, there were a couple aged steaks not included (several standard steaks and a couple aged steaks including a 12oz ribeye were included), and lobster dishes were 1/2 price but everything else was all included in our plan. My son has some strange yet severe food allergies and every restaurant we went to asked us about allergies, so that was excellent. Another thing to note is that our All inclusive plan didn’t start until 12 noon on arrival day. We got there at 10:30 am, so that was kind of a bummer that they couldn’t let you get breakfast on the plan - it was sort of a negative start to our trip, but we survived and ate a hefty lunch as soon as our wristbands were on at noon. I did have to ask for a key to get to the ridge before our room was ready as the elevator requires a room key. Location - part of the appeal for us was location. We loved that it was a short walk to the marina and shops. If we had not chosen all-inclusive and not brought my mom and aunt, we would have walked to the marina for dinner. We did walk to the Marina for a snorkel sail with Cabo Adventures with just the 4 of us. We took a taxi to shop one day as my aunt and mom can’t walk that far. All in all, it was a great experience for my family. If my kids were younger, Playa Grande probably would have been better/easier to entertain them and get them to dinner and such, but I’d do the Ridge again in a heartbeat. My son was telling everyone “see you next year” on our way out. Lol If you like all the pool games and activities and such Playa Grande is where it’s at, but if you like calm and quiet with an amazing view, The Ridge, 100%.

Such a great place to stay, with beautiful views, amazing architecture, and great service. Emphasis on that last one: one of the highlights of my trip was Uriel—our fun, amazing server at the upper pool deck. He was so accommodating and I never felt like I was waiting around for something I needed—he was always one step ahead. Truly such a great place filled with great people! Will be back!
