Hotel Le Germain Calgary

We recently stayed at Le Germaine Hotel Calgary, a modern hotel in downtown Calgary located across the street from the Calgary Tower and steps away from Stephen Ave Walk and the +15 Skywalk. The 2 Queen room was very spacious - a large modern bathroom, a large walk in closet area (safe and lots of storage) and a large nook that connected our room to a neighboring room. The modern polished wood and glass décor included a tall Noguchi-styled floor lamp and velvet covered chairs and ottomans. Coffee pot, hot water pot, high end glassware and well stocked wet bar. The large bathroom had wall storage, a large walk-in shower with a huge rain shower head and a large teardrop shaped sink that reminded us of an infant bath basin. Daily housekeeping. One big negative - our 12th floor room faced directly into the offices across a narrow space between the office building and the hotel forcing us to keep our wooden blinds closed for privacy. No blackout curtains with window blinds that let in the morning sun. Plus despite being on the 12th floor, we heard early morning police and ambulance sirens but did not hear any train noise from the nearby 7th Ave tracks (some reviewers complained of loud nearby trains). When making reservations, ask for a room on a high floor that is not facing the office building or the train tracks. It might also be fun to have a room facing the Calgary Tower across the street. The hotel has a small lobby area with a bar as well as an attached restaurant.

I stayed in your hotel in Calgary : just for one night. The amenities are excellent. I stayed in an accessible room and found it very comfortable and well laid out. All the employees were highly professional and welcoming. Most importantly I want to mention the bellhop. Unfortunately I forgot his name - but he is one of the older employees - slim build and he was wearing black jeans on August 28. I'm sure he will remember me. But, he made my stay completely manageable. I arrived at the hotel in my wheelchair with one bag. As I stepped out of my taxi, the bellhop took my bag and then wheeled me to the front desk. He stayed with me while I checked in. Then he showed me to my room and showed me how to use the key card to turn on the lights and basically gave me a short 'tour' of all the amenities in the room. When I was leaving the hotel, after checking out, the same bellhop came and assissted me. He helped me to position my wheel chair on the flat sidewalk area (the sidewalk outside the hotel slopes towards the street which is very difficult to deal with in a manual wheelchair). Then he watched for my taxi and saw me safely into the taxi. His kindness touched my heart and brought me to tears. He was indeed my most important guardian angel for the trip. He has a big heart and takes pride is doing a good job!!! I hope this huge thank you note will be forwarded to him. This was a very difficult trip for me. It was a solo trip travelling in a manual wheelchair. My first trip away from home since my amputation last November. Receiving the help and attention from your bellhop (as well as other staff) was priceless for me. I will recommend your hotel to all my friends, and next time I am in Calgary I will stay there.

Nice hotel in the best location you would want to be in...rooms are huge and gym pretty decent although needs a few more weight training equipment. Excellent steak resturant next door and the funniest concierge guy ive ever met. Well worth as an alternative to the fairmount down the road.

There are many things to like about this property. Large room; comfortable bedding; nice bathroom; good restaurant, and great people. None of which, unfortunately, overcomes the fact that hotel is in desperate need of refurbishment, and the set up of the blinds allows light to come in late at night, and early morning (in Calgary, that is as late as well past 10:00 pm, and before five in the morning > check photo). Additionally, age behind the blinds is totally stuck.
