Poor value for a Melia

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

This Melia is a disappointment. Our room was on the first floor with seaview, but the deck of the restaurant with the aircon pipes and lot of cigarette butts is deciduous. It’s poorly equipped and not well maintained. The housekeeper starts knocking after 8 am and wants to allocates time when to come in. Breakfast was fine, rich choice. Kitchen is really simple and sometimes just bad. The medium rare beef entrecote was a shoe sole, absolutely inedible, the tiramisu was also a fake, iced something. At the pool if you don’t go at 8 am you don’t get any sunbeds, all is full, reserved. There’s also not so much possibility for this big hotel and so much guests. At the sea as a melia guest you have to pay for the own sunbeds, 25€/day. The staff is uninterested, always in chaos. Cleaning in all areas is also poor. Price value not worth it.

The positives The Hotel location is very good The room’s comfortable and clean The Breakfast is very good The negatives Services need improving 1, For a quality hotel two small bottles of water for your stay is insufficient and in my view should be replenished , not additional charge ( which is high) 2 A hotel aimed at vacation , has the pools opening at 10.00 and closing at 7 pm is not good 3 . The bars shut too early , the only bar that stays open until 11.00 is the bar in the adjacent MELIA Hotel 4. During our stay the WiFi was off for a day and a half , this is an essential service for this digital age 5 The reception managed to mess up our Taxi booking which caused us to re-arrange and disrupt our planned day 6 When checking out , no bell service to help bring the luggage’s down . We had several rooms 7 Upon checking with others in my party it would appear that we were charged for mini bar consumption that we did not have

Don’t come here! Dirty underwear found in dirty room, AC not working, rude staff, NOT A 4 STAR HOTEL MORE LIKE 3 STAR

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

How do I even start, when I and my family arrived to the hotel first off the lobby has no aircon flowing at all it was so humid, I decided to use the toilets in the lobby and it didn’t even look like it was part of the hotel you have paint coming off the walls cobwebs everywhere it was a nightmare, when we got to the rooms we had no help with the luggage whether you get upgrade to the “level” or not staff should always help with bringing your luggage to your room, that’s one of the reasons this hotel went from a 5 star to a 4 star, when we got to our room the aircon wasn’t on, the room was about 25 degrees at midnight my girlfriend has asthma it just wasn’t the best start and I made it clear to the staff members if you know someone else will be in the room later make sure you know everything is prepared such as the aircon. AND IT GETS WORSE. The room was not clean at all I found dirty women underwear in one of the white draws, the floor was dirty the black table was dirty and blood… yes dry blood on the toilet seat it was horrific we told the staff immediately and so they kept apologising and one of the managers checked out the room and took pictures of the underwear and the room to report it, and by now we were fuming because we paid this much just to get a dirty room and not only that but the aircon wasn’t working throughout our stay the aircon wasn’t working for 5 days out of the 7 days we were staying there, about 5 different Marianne workers came up on different days to “fix it” which they didn’t, until the 5th day the heat was getting unbearable, it was 28 degrees in the room and my girlfriend has asthma so it was getting really bad, so we called reception to send up another maintenance guy and it finally got fixed ON THR 5th DAY The maintenance worker said the aircon was blowing out 25 degrees hot air so clearly the hotel don’t do regular checks on the room, they don’t value there customers, One of the managers Stephieni, decided to upgrade us to the “level” on the 5th day she was the only nice member of staff there and most helpful. Now we all thought lets see what the level is about so the next morning we got up for breakfast and sat down in the level area we scanned a QR code to get a little menu where you can order different foods for breakfast so we all ordered toast with poached eggs and avocado on toast we were all looking forward to it, and when they gave us our breakfast they messed up the order and not only that but the poached eggs were completely cooked so it was a hard boiled egg and also the toast wasn’t even toast the chefs gave us a small piece of brown bread that got soggy from the egg it wasn’t even toasted and had no butter, the avocado was hard as anything and I heard one of the workers told the chef just warm up the poached egg as it was getting cold so the chef put the egg back in the warm water waiting for it to be served by someone and I think that happened to us because the eggs were hard as anything and they made one of my family members ill. So I instead went to the buffet and I’m telling you now that the food there is so much more better, don’t get me wrong you had special access to the lounge when you have the level upgrade but for the price of it I wouldn’t do it, it’s really not worth it at all. The beach next to the hotel is dirty I was swimming and found a condom floating about in very shallow area of the beach theres people spraying eachother with high pressure water guns and the family sprayed the new born baby with the high pressure water gun probably by accident and it was just a really horrible experience overall I’m never going back.

Not what is was and has declined over the years - We wont be back

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Having stayed at this hotel 3 times over the past 7 years, we booked a double room and a twin room for our daughters (mid 20's) as a family holiday for a special birthday. The hotel is clean, functional, rooms are of a basic, functional modern design and won't be to everybody taste (especially the open bathroom design). The hotel is probably a 4 star, although the lifts are tiny and easier to take the stairs if you are able. The hotel has 3 pool's, 2 of which don't open until 10am but sunbeds are available before that, but the usual issues trying to get sunbeds due to people laying towels out from 6am, I understand that every hotel has similar issues. This is exacerbated by the 3rd pool (and pool area) not being open until 11.00 onwards (and this could be 11.00 and might be midday on some days, as there was not definitive timings and on certain days the pool was still closed at midday as it was being cleaned (who knows why it couldn't be cleaned earlier?) In general - Entrance area and lobby nice design and clean - Staircase and elevators very much in need or refurb and 3* at best - Pool area as highlighted above were busy. Good restaurant and bar but do not cater for food intolerances like gluten free etc and staff seemed inept at trying to cater for anything out of the ordinary, not what you'd expect from a 4* Melia! - There's a good vibe around the front 2 pools with music, if you can find somewhere to sit. - The main South Beach hotel bar closes at 7pm on weekdays and I think 11.00pm at weekends!!! Crazy and was loosely explained away as staffing issues, but seriously come on! Room - small but functional - Very noisy from the outside and corridor noise as walls and doors are paper thin! - Drain pipe in the ceiling of the room sounds like someone in the room showering over it, like dropping metal balls down the pipe. A - Mould and mildew evident in the shower and the rainfall shower head was useless as it needs descaling as water jets go in every direction but downwards. - Toilet does not have a proper closing door and the door has a thumb width gap. Thus very unpleasant with 2 people occupancy. - Bed / mattress basically very comfortable. However, only two single beds on castors which are pushed together. As a couple not really comfortable. - Air conditioning very good. Room temperature pleasantly adjustable. - TV set available. However, very limited channel selection. Food: - Breakfast is very stocked everything you need (extremely limited catering for food intolerances) . - Lunch we couldn't eat in the hotel as they didn't cater for any food intolerances or couldn't tell us what was in the food to make an informed decision. In this day and age this is pretty poor by hotel! - There is a distinct lack of any labeling on any of the food in the buffet breakfast with ingredients etc (I stay in hotels over 70 nights a years and I can't remember the last time I din't see adequate labelling, especially as there could be potential claims for allergies etc) Personnel: - Check-in/check-out was very nice and cordial - Some staff appeared rude and uninterested - We definitely had a few issues on our holiday which we highlighted to the General Manager, who in fairness gave us explanation, but I would class them more as excuses, and did offer us a Euro100 resort credit on any future stay (I have declined this and written this review instead as a 5% resort credit against a future stay doesn't really seem commensurate to the issues we had) .

Clean hotel but some cons

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Hotel was very clean which was great. Breakfast was good, lots of variety with fruit, pastries, eggs, bacon, sausages, coffee and drinks. Pool was also big and there was two, one was adults only. I would say there isn’t enough sunbeds around the pool for how many guests there are so we did struggle a couple of times to get beds. Some staff were very helpful and others weren’t, one male in particular was very rude and unhelpful upon arrival, he gave us no information about breakfast / our room or anything. However two girls at reception were good help. There is a shop opposite the hotel which is good to get bits in from. When buying drinks from the pool bar the service is so so slow. They are in no rush to serve you and is annoying. I wouldn’t recommend eating at the pool ‘restaurant’ food was like it was frozen and very expensive for what they were and the woman working there is so miserable. Overall I wouldn’t rush back to this hotel but the main things were it was very clean and spacious rooms
