With its brilliantly white Art Deco-style façade anno 1923, storied Majestic Barrière Cannes epitomizes French Riviera luxury lifestyle along tony Boulevard La Croisette. Located across from the red-carpeted Palais de Festivals, where Hollywood A-listers strut their stuff during the famous film festival, the hotel Grand Dame wows guests with an expansive lobby dominated by dramatic champagne-colored columns, twinkling chandeliers and polished antiques-furnished seating areas. 265 brightly elegant rooms occupy a total of 7 floors and sleek dark-hued furniture is smartly balanced with crimson splashes and eye-catching floral images in gilt frames. Rooms provide must-have gadgetry like Bose iPod docks, wireless Internet access, plus flat-screen televisions, and, for the no-delay pick-me-up in the AM, Nespresso machines are on hand. Black marble-clad bathrooms show off equally dapper design and are kitted out with separate bathtubs and showers as well as bespoke toiletries.

So where do I begin with this? My lovely wife Fiona was celebrating a very special birthday. We had been to the south of France on numerous occasions but Cannes was not a town with which we were familiar having visited only very briefly on one previous occasion. Based on reviews we were able to read here, the Majestic Barriere appeared to be the logical choice for a luxury experience. Our incredible concierge team at American Express Centurion subsequently booked us three nights on their Fine Hotels and Resorts program which we have always used and greatly appreciated on many previous occasions. To enhance the whole experience, we booked a lunch and a dinner at the newly opened and luxurious private Ciro Beach Club which belongs to the hotel and sits right across the road. To emphasise how special this whole occasion was for us, I secretly arranged for Fiona’s adult daughters to join us in Cannes on the day of her birthday as a very special surprise. In advance of previous luxury hotel bookings, we have had experience of the venue contacting us to make us aware of things which might affect our experience – things like swimming pool closure or building works near the property. No such information was forthcoming in advance of our stay so we felt we had all bases covered. The check-in experience, if I were to be polite, would best be described as chaotic so our first experience at the hotel set some alarm bells ringing. However – and wait for this – we discovered and no one even attempted to inform us but immediately across the road from the hotel and sitting within touching distance of the hotel’s beach club was one of the biggest sound and lighting stages that we have ever seen – and we are in the music business! Apparently a techno DJ Festival was being conducted over the entire time of our stay at the hotel with thumping music until 02:30 every single day. Not a single word from the Hotel whatsoever! I could write so much more about our experience, but the main one I have listed above is so appalling that I cannot really see past it nor find any possible reason for the Hotel to allow this to happen to us On the positive side the actual building itself is spectacular. Unfortunately, I would have to say that there were so many issues with service during our stay being not anywhere near the standard we would expect from a venue of this standard. Due to the music festival I have described above, we had to make total changes to our special dining reservations that we were very much looking forward to. In conclusion, though I could say so much more, I will close this review by saying that the Majestic Barriere totally and completely and utterly spoiled what was intended to be a beautiful family occasion to celebrate my wife’s special birthday and I will never ever forgive them for doing this to us! When I return to Scotland on Monday, I intend speaking to our legal representatives to raise an action against the venue for the distress and disappointment they have caused. I have never done this previously to a five star venue in my life. Shame on you Majestic Barriere for this. Shame on you!

We stayed a few nights at this truly majestic hotel. The location is perfect; close to the old town and many restaurants and bars. We had a sea view suite and the view was absolutely stunning. We visited the beach club which was fantastic as well! Great service and the food was remarkable. We would like to give a special thank you to Armand and Giuseppe at the front desk for such a warm welcome and constant attention throughout our stay. Don’t hesitate to book this hotel, we will be back!

The Majestic is a beautiful hotel. This was our second time staying. Last time we had a partial sea view room, this time a prestige sea view room. It is well worth the admittedly high price tag. You are very close to the old part of the town and its restaurants but equally on and surrounded by the Croisette and its high end shops and boutiques. The staff are great, the facilities are great and the bars and restaurants are really really good. We will definitely be back - one of my favourite hotels if not my most favourite hotel in the world.

My family and I loved everything about our stay at the Majestic in Cannes. Our trip started off great when we got an upgraded room with a sea view. When we entered our room, there were gifts for our kids based on their hobbies. The breakfast options were ENDLESS and surpassed our expectations in every way. We enjoyed the private beach and the menu options. Our kids really enjoyed the kids club and the friendly staff. Above all, the hotel's location is perfect as its central to all the best restaurants and shopping. A big thank you to Jihen who assisted us throughout the reservation process!!!

Been coming here for 15 years now and its standards are dropping. It’s a shame! Last year our room was tired and had a few problems, debated if to come back this year but decided to try again. Wish I hadn’t. Our room which was prestige sea view has a small clothes rail but no draws or shelves so we were expected to live out of a suitcase for a week! We were offered a different room but was dark and hardly had a sea view. The staff were rude and treated us like we were asking for the world - not what you expect for a room over £1000 a night! We were told as not booked directly with the hotel there was little they could do! You get penalised if use another agent! They really don’t care of you are happy or not, if you come back or not! The bathroom is never stocked up correctly, you have to constantly ring down for shower gel etc However, The pool staff are amazing as usual.

At the Majestic Barrière in Cannes, the accommodations were no less than spectacular! The room was very large, nicely appointed, and had a side view of La Croisette. There were fireworks at night over the bay, with all the yachts from places all over the world, below. A fabulous honeymoon we will never forget.
