Overlooking the Atlantic in Cape May, New Jersey, Congress Hall is an iconic seaside retreat that has welcomed guests for more than 210 years, blending the grandeur of a historic American landmark with the relaxed pleasures of a classic coastal escape. Its bright, thoughtfully designed interiors preserve the character of the centuries-old property while giving rooms and gathering spaces a fresh, sophisticated feel. Guests can spend summer days at the beach or beside the outdoor pool, explore town on one of the hotel’s bicycles, or retreat to the Sea Spa for massages, facials and restorative treatments. Dining is a highlight, with farm-fresh ingredients from nearby Beach Plum Farm appearing on the menu at The Blue Pig Tavern, while The Brown Room offers cocktails and light bites in an elegant historic lounge. Downstairs, The Boiler Room brings a livelier atmosphere with brick-oven pizza, pasta, cocktails and draft beer, while the seasonal Grand Lawn and Veranda Bar invite guests to linger over drinks.

A wonderful hotel that has only got better with age I first visited Congress Hall when it originally opened, so coming back all these years later was a real pleasure — and, honestly, it’s even better than I remember. Like a fine wine, Congress Hall has improved with age. What was already a beautiful hotel has developed an atmosphere and personality that feels completely its own. It has matured beautifully without losing the charm and character that made it special in the first place. The staff were exceptional — friendly, attentive and genuinely welcoming throughout our stay. Nothing felt forced or overly formal; there’s a warmth to the whole place that makes you feel like a guest rather than a customer. And then there’s Cape May itself. It has grown into such a beautiful, traditional American seaside town, with its historic architecture, lovely streets and wonderful atmosphere. For me, it has far more charm and character than places such as Cape Cod, which can sometimes feel a little more polished and commercial. Congress Hall feels like the heart of it all. It’s grand without being pretentious, traditional without feeling dated, and full of character. We absolutely loved our stay and I’d happily return. In fact, I’m already looking forward to the next visit.

Lovely hotel! Grounds are beautiful! Hotel is old so rooms are in need of renovation. Our room had bumpy floors and was hard to walk around! We are not youngsters so found it very difficult and uncomfortable to get around the room… it’s also dangerous if one was to fall!

A wonderful place, great comfortable rooms, great food and good music. We really enjoyed the food and drinks at the Blue Pig. I particularly enjoyed the crab omelet and the option to add lobster or crab to your salad. We also love that there is live music every night at the hotel as well as great Manhattens! The shuttle service was so helpful, the shuttle came and got us when we got stuck in pouring rain. Self parking our low to the ground car was so easy. The price of an oceanfront room is very high in the summer but it is still worth it. The bed was very comfortable, the ocean view great, the draws and closet provided adequate storage space and the refrigerator worked well.
