A haven of warm hospitality since 1816, Congress Hall offers a sublime blend of tradition and elegance. This lovingly restored and expanded monument resides just steps from the Atlantic Ocean, in the heart of Cape Mayâ€(TM)s historic district on the New Jersey shore. In an atmosphere of serenity, you can linger on a sun-drenched verandah, stroll among hydrangeas, or enjoy a treat from the old-fashioned candy shop. Savor a massage at the Cape May Day Spa, and gather with friends over American fare at the Blue Pig Tavern.

We stayed at Congress Hall for the first time during our latest trip to Cape May, and had a wonderful visit. Compared to other hotels in Cape May, CH is impressive and offers so much for guests. The hotel and grounds are beautiful, well-kept and so charming. CH offers many activities everyday on-site (and some off-site) from wellness to children’s games/crafts which are great if you don’t want to venture out during parts of the day. There is even a small koi pond which we stopped by a few times. Overall service was friendly, helpful and accommodating. We had a clean, spacious room with a nice bathroom with shower and separate tub. Bed linens were very soft and comfortable, as were the bath towels. One thing to note is that being that this is a historic hotel, there should be some level of historic charm and noise-expectation - we were in the south wing and although there was some hallway/maintenance noise it didn’t bother us or disturb our sleep (they do provide ear plugs for sensitive sleepers). CH offers several dining options on site including The Blue Pig Tavern (we enjoyed dinner and breakfast here), a cafe and ice cream shop. There is also a gift shop with a good variety of shirts, toys and home souvenirs. We didn’t spend time in the pool during our stay but from walking by it looked very nice. The CH team at the beach was very helpful in setting up chairs and towels for us (which was great to not have to worry about). Last but not least there is the convenience of CH’s location. It is literally steps away from Washington Street Mall! This was extremely important to us especially traveling with a toddler. We were able to easily enjoy the shops throughout our stay, and get to many restaurants and coffee shops within just a couple of minutes at most. Congress Hall is expensive but here you get what you pay for. The hotel, grounds, on site dining, pool, easy beach access, activities and prime location make it well worth it. All in all we had a fantastic time at Congress Hall, and will look to stay here again next time we visit Cape May.

I have been coming to Congress Hall & their other Cape Resort hotels such as Virginia Hotel, Star Inn, Beach Shack or Sandpiper (I will mention their houses, apartments at the promenade, and their hotel at the distant farmhouse but I’ve never stayed there) every year since 2004 plus I actually spent a long honeymoon weekend here in 2014 without hesitation as a symbol of my dedication to the cape resorts. It is a staple and a gem to Cape May and I never stay anywhere else. I had even invited several of my doctor friends to impress; so it is a real establishment to visit. In the past, I’ve met owners of other Cape May Hotels (which I should not reveal by name) come here to enjoy a cigar on their Great Lawn which is now called The Veranda. They told me how much they love this Hotel and how they are purchasing other motels to try to convert them to mimic the Congress Hall Hotel and their other Cape Resort properties that replicate Congress Hall. Most impressive is their service to their guests from their dedicated staff. They recruit their seasonal staff from eastern Europe and provide room & board in Cape May for them for the Summer. This year however, I’ve never felt such humiliation from asian-hate discrimination their bike rental company’s Manager that Cape Resorts contracted or possibly outsourced to represent them. It’s been there as long as I have been visiting them since 2004 and they used to have new bikes for Weddings they used to promote heavily for but now the bikes are 21 years old and the bell wasn’t even functioning altho the brakes were fine so that’s Congress Bikes for you now. I told the manager at the front desk but she apologized and by pretty much acted sympathetic and dismissed the whole incident. If you are an asian family, you’ll most likely not stay here because the $1050/night cost (after all the fees), and the bike rental being $35/ hour is totally out of your over calculated and cheap mind. Oh and please tip more than a dollar because asian families never seem to tip because it rhymes with cheap.

Fun hotel vibe, connected to a bar/restaurant with live music performances daily. Great beach/pool service - no need to pack towels or beach chairs/umbrella. Strong service ethic in the staff - very pleasant, very helpful. We had a great stay!
