An icon in its Cape Town surroundings, the warm blush hue and palm-laden landscape makes Belmond Mount Nelson a true delight for savvy travelers. This landmark South Africa luxury hotel near the city's vibrant waterfront has enjoyed a 200-year history full of brilliant and fantastic times. With a half-dozen wings jutting in various directions, Belmond Mount Nelson has created its own cocoon in which to spoil its guests. Vintage architecture, private gardens, individual appointments and state-of-the-art technology all join forces to create an unforgettable stay. Thuli really looked after us at our afternoon tea. We loved the whole experience, the gardens are more beautiful than ever and the tea incredible.

South Africa's most iconic hotel was somewhat underwhelming. For such a 'grand' hotel, the entrance lobby and reception are dull and surprisingly small. We were upgraded to a deluxe suite and though it gad a balcony with stunning view of table mountain, the room itself was not compatible with the £1000+ per night price tag, awful carpet, cheap furniture and dreary decor. Most of the service was brilliant, though one of the concierge team seemed constantly agitated and impatient. We have stayed in many top luxury hotels around the world but, and this is no fault of the hotel's, I have never come across so many cold, supercilious and sometimes rude guests, most of whom were wealthy white capetonians with an unwarranted air of superiority. The hotel facade from outside is appealing, but there are many better, luxury boutique options around Cape Town with a happier atmosphere and more stylish rooms.

The Mount Nelson is a beautiful pink hotel in Cape Town. The rooms, service, included breakfast are the best. It's pricey but worth a night or two. We weren't around for tea but did have drinks and dinner in the Planet Bar. Both the food and drinks were quite good. The history of the hotel is one to learn about when you visit. Go and enjoy!

We had a wonderful experience, ably assisted by the lovely Asanda. Thank you Asanda. Thank you too to Henry for the beautiful ambience music. This Afternoon Tea is highly recommended!
