In the heart of Cape Townâ€(TM)s Constantia Valley, the Relais & Chateaux-affiliated The Cellars Hohenort unifies two great traditions. The magnificent 18th-century Klaasenbosch wine cellars and the splendid manor house of the Hohenort have both been restored at this divine member of The Collection by Liz McGrath. Understated South African elegance sets the tone in romantic bedrooms, suites and the gracious, Cape-style Madiba Villa. The 9-acre estate also embraces gardens, a vineyard and the Cape Malay restaurant, showcasing the regionâ€(TM)s unique cuisine.

Pros: -Reception: Exquisite. By the time we reached the front desk, they already had our registration, a warm towel (soaked in lemongrass scent) & sweet iced tea ready. A duty manager (Ashwin) walked us to our room, showed us around, and answered all our questions. Duty Manager Llewelyn courteously extended our stay to 8 pm to accommodate our late-night flight departure. Personalized letter in our room explaining the available services and facilities. Nougats were offered as farewell gifts. - Room: A cheese and cracker plate plus a full-size bottle of wine welcomed us. Bedroom was small but had lots of storage. Bathroom was spacious, featuring a full bathtub, a large shower stall and 2 sinks. Amenities contained essential oils from Africology. Mini fridge contained complimentary Coke Zero, lemonade, beers, and water, plus cans of nuts, biltong, gummies, & chips. 2 hooks and 2 big towel racks (one heated as long as the correct switch is flipped) in the bathroom. 1 hook on the entry door to the bedroom. - Meals: Dinner was delicious (free-range beef burger, paella, & chocolate financier) and featured top-notch service. Different restaurant staff frequently checked on us. Restaurant (called the conservatory) is beautifully decorated with a full view of the greenery outside. Lunch was also delicious (Cesar Salad, Calamari, Oysters, & Chicken). Prices were amazingly reasonable for quality. - Facilities: Old-fashioned decorations but beautiful and clean. 2 outdoor swimming pools with heated water. - Location: Isolated in a remote place, with a security guard checking entries. The grounds spread out with nicely kept gardens and trees all around. Cons: - Bedroom: Windows without screens allowed big flies inside. The curtains allowed sunshine through early in the morning. - Bathroom: An instructive sign on the heated towel rack would be helpful. Water pressure was low. No handheld shower wand was provided. - Service: No Disturb sign was ignored. - Facilities: There were no elevators because the whole hotel consisted of 2 main buildings that used to be some old mansions, plus some detached small houses.

I stayed in the Cellars-Hohenhort several times in the distant past. It had become rather tired and service was erratic. So what a pleasure to return and find that the hotel is now greatly improved. The staff were extremely welcoming and looked after us very well. The housekeeping team were especially kind. The Conservatory Restaurant has been relaunched with a more casual and contemporary menu. It is buzzy and packed with locals not staying at the hotel. We enjoyed the beautiful gardens and a game of tennis on the hotel’s court. The pools are also very nice.

The photos do not do it justice, we booked here for our honeymoon and are we glad that we did! The service is exceptional, the food is incredible. On arrival we had a personal tour of the grounds, we were checked on early too. We didn't want to leave to explore cape town! We wanted to stay there the whole time! They have an excellent vegan menu, just ask for it when they seat you. Room service was incredible, we also met the local ducks and the grounds tortoise Ferguson who we found in the vineyard. We used the spa facilities and highly recommend. They do daily shuttles free to V&A waterfront and also to Kirstenbosh Botanical Gardens. We'll definitely be coming back

This was our 4th stay at Cellars and we are already looking forward to returning next week. The hotel is stunning, service impeccable, rooms wonderful and food and drinks delicious. This time we also enjoyed a relaxing treatment in the Spa and delightful High Tea in the Greenhouse Restaurant. Thank you for another amazing stay and see you next week!
