La Playa Carmel

Beautiful property. Excellent location in Carmel, close to the ocean and city center. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. They went above and beyond to make our stay amazing. Breakfast is amazing. Shuttle is provided to and from dinner which is very helpful.

This is a first-class establishment, and it shows in the professionalism of each of the people we encountered. The breakfast buffet was amazing - fresh, healthy, and some dishes were made-to-order. We enjoyed each of the surprising little touches, such as the sangria in the afternoons and the warm cookies in the evening. Sadly, we missed the random dime drinks in the bar - never know when it will be offered, which adds to the fun. We had a 3rd floor room with a view (307 - note that it also looks over the rooftop, which added entertainment whenever the lone seagull perched there watching over the property), which was worth it to us because we spent time each morning and early evening with the windows open (no screens, but also very few bugs), relaxing and enjoying the view. We particularly appreciated the robust shower (no wimpy water flow there!). The gorgeous bar cabinet was a nice touch; it is well-stocked with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and I used the electric kettle for coffee and tea each day. The location was great for us. It's 2 blocks from the beach, where we went for a walk each morning (a must-do). It was a short uphill walk to the main shopping areas and restaurants. Parking was never an issue (free street parking). The hotel is historic - be sure to read the photos and plaques on the walls in the hallways, and take note of the very old cypress near the entry. We went on a guided tour of the town (through TripAdvisor), and even our tour guide commented on the historic significance and grand reputation of La Playa. Carmel-by-the-Sea is picture-perfect, and the La Playa contributed to our 5-star experience.

I cannot say enough great things about this hotel! The rooms, grounds and views are spectacular. The staff is so kind and helpful. You can walk everywhere in Carmel to stores, restaurants, bars and spas. The hotel also includes free champagne brunch, happy hour and post dinner cookies. Stay here if you ever get the opportunity!

Staying at la playa was a truly magical experience-we were blown away with all of the details! Robes, snacks/bar in room, walk out to pool, cookies, wine! Our room walked out to the heated pool, which we were able to swim in when it was 50 degrees outside because it is so well heated! We loved every minute and didn’t want to leave!!

From the minute we arrived and were not greeted by the bellmen to no one at the front desk it was evident there was a management problem. Service was extremely poor and as we sat awaiting a drink in the bar the mgr snipped and said" I said hello didn't I" Hard to believe a new renovation as things looked very tired
