Sofitel Baru Cartagena

Beautiful hotel. We loved our room which was a Jacuzzi suite in the Garza building. The beach is nice, not white sand but good, and the swimming was excellent. I would have liked more room to swim and less room for jetskiis. The service was excellent, 5 stars for sure. The breakfasts were outstanding. The dinners were mixed. Humo was great, very creative. We did not care for our meal at Bahia. Calabianca was not good at first, but we had a conversation with Juliette the restaurant manager who made sure our subsequent meals were good. Thanks to servers Brenda and Ramses. We were not bothered by the unpaved road in. We appreciated that there were no other buildings in view. Overall a great stay, and then we spent an enjoyable few days in the city of Cartagena. Loved it all

Great place to spend quiet and relaxing days with your family or significant other. Rooms are very comfortable and nice, with an amazing view of the ocean. The beach is stunning. And the service is truly outstanding. Special shoutout to Laura and Claudia at the front desk for their hospitality towards my sons, as well as to Marelis from the beach restaurant. Let's hope this hotel remains the HIDDEN GEM in the Caribbean that we were able to enjoy. This post probably doesn't help with that purpose, but the recognition to the friendliest staff was due.

Everything perfect from the check in with German, to the room, the beach, to the restaurants. Excellent and seamless service.

Easily the best hotel of our stay, if you could give six stars I would. Resort hotels can be a bit samey with a “corporate” feel. Not true here, lots of staff, all well trained, all with a smile on their face and keen to help in any way they can. If you are on the great beach someone will come over and offer you an iced water, a slice of melon or a Mango juice. There will be someone (Alexandro?) to find the best sun bed for you – doubles which makes it all the more enjoyable. The restaurants are all easy to book and all serve food to a high standard. Throughout the resort there are lots of staff so always someone at hand to help or guide. Lots of swimming pools and bars, some with live music, so it never feels crowded. The bedroom was large, immaculate and very tastefully decorated and furnished. Bathroom again large and very clean. Balcony the same with a great sea view. Best hotel of this type I’ve stayed in. I must also mention Alexandre Giumella, the Resident Manager, who went out of his way to help me. I’m a football fan and my team were playing an important European game while we were staying. The pool bar couldn’t get the game but suggested the lobby bar. When I went there, there was no TV and I started to ask one of the bar staff if I was in the right place. Alexandre came over listened to what I wanted, found the match on his mobile phone, gave me the phone to watch it while he went off to get a large 70 inch TV organised just for me to watch the game. Unbelievable service! Someone that deserves to go far in the Sofitel organisation. We were staying for 5 nights and throughout our stay we met him most days as he walked around the resort – so rare now to find a manager who actually “walks the job” to check details.

Lovely property. The pools are incredible and the beach is beautiful. Rooms are very comfortable most with a view of the ocean. It’s excellent if you have kids under 8 and want a few days to just chill and not have to go anywhere. They have a play room that’s open until 10 pm and tons of kid oriented activities but still feels like an adult luxury resort. It’s the perfect place to pair with a few days in Cartagena and def take the boat over which is only 30 min. The only downside is you’re kind of stuck there so plan on not leaving the resort while you’re there. Thanks for a great stay and to all the incredible staff!
