About the Hotel

Backpackers trekking through the jungle highlands of Belize a few years ago occasionally stumbled onto a rustic place called Blancaneaux Lodge - then a row of thatched huts above an idyllic valley, where waterfalls drop into granite pools lined with tiger ferns while parrots roost in the palmettos. Francis Ford Coppola himself stumbled upon this same enchanted retreat in the Mountain Pine Ridge reserve in 1981. "I'd been looking for some kind of tropical utopia," Coppola says. "This was the paradise hideaway I was looking for." The rest is history... Welcome to Blancaneaux Lodge.

Reviews for Blancaneaux Lodge

An absolute oasis

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Another fabulous stay at Blancaneaux! We love the combination of nature and luxury. There is delicious food and wine, amazing massages (try the Thai Massage), the nicest people, and it's all in a beautiful natural setting. The cabanas are screened, the main lodge is a combination of screened and open air, the spa is open air. When we stay, we love it that we're not truly "inside" (except inside a car) at all during the trip. But don't get me wrong, those cabanas are luxurious - comfortable beds, lovely antique-style decor, gorgeous decks and special grass roof. No tvs, no AC, no tacky plastic souvenirs or electric blue blender drinks - in other words, heaven.

Blancaneaux Retreat

Outstanding experience. Lovely, well cared for property. Staff are kind, friendly and super-knowledgeable. Felt like we were being cared for by a big family. There is a lot to do on property and the team will readily arrange a wide-variety of activies. Rooms were clean and comfortable with great views. We have villas on either side of us but didn't see or hear them. We can't wait to go back!

"Simplicity and a barefoot elegance with a luxurious wink." FF Coppola - Perfect Description

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Needed a break after a busy year and before the holidays took over. Booked Blancaneaux to see the Belizean jungle, warm up a bit, and be quiet. It hit the mark. Coppola wrote that Blancaneaux is "Simplicity and a barefoot elegance with a luxurious wink." It's a perfect description. My wife and I kept a relaxed and slow pace, were never rushed, and were treated wonderfully by the staff. The grounds were beautiful. Our room was peaceful and quiet and spacious and comfortable. The food was very good. We loved that the staff would bring us coffee each morning as a part of the room rate and we sat and drank the whole carafe before heading to the restaurant for fruit and some eggs. We loved it.

Fabulous Lodge

What a special place tucked in the white pine forest reserve. Truly a secluded, relaxing place with five star service. Fabulous food and people loved our daily adventures to my in temples and the ATM cave. We had a family cabana on the waterfall. Two bedrooms, huge living room. Kids loved the hammock. The spa was wonderful. We went back multiple days also from the lodge the height to big rock Falls is a must but be prepared for a workout.

Perfect Christmas holiday

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

We stayed for a full week, Dec 20 through 27, and highly recommend Blancaneaux Lodge for a couple’s or family trip over Christmas. The service is incredible and there were lots of festive holiday touches, including special menus and treats. When it comes to day trips to see the famous Mayan sites of Belize and Guatemala, the staff truly excels. Every detail is thought through. Amir from the front desk team sought us out at dinner the evening before our day trip to Tikal - he made sure we understood how everything would work and offered a menu of to-go breakfast foods. On our trip to the Caracol archaeological site (do NOT miss it), we had one of our favorite guides of all time, Geraldo, who took great care of us. As for the lodge, we stayed in a “luxury deluxe” cabin, #12, which is situated at the far end of the property. Be aware that there are lots of steps along the path that leads to this particular cabin, which I wouldn’t recommend if traveling with someone who has serious mobility issues. The private deck with plunge pool overlooking the jungle and river below makes #12 a very special and romantic spot on the property.

We stayed at the Turtle Inn and Blancaneaux Lodge for a week in October, and it was the best vacation we have ever taken. The cabanas and cottages were lovely, the staff was incredible, and the food was outstanding. It's rare that you come home from vacation without a single negative thing to say - our only criticism is that we couldn't stay longer! It was truly an amazing experience.
