About the Hotel

Backpackers trekking through the jungle highlands of Belize a few years ago occasionally stumbled onto a rustic place called Blancaneaux Lodge - then a row of thatched huts above an idyllic valley, where waterfalls drop into granite pools lined with tiger ferns while parrots roost in the palmettos. Francis Ford Coppola himself stumbled upon this same enchanted retreat in the Mountain Pine Ridge reserve in 1981. "I'd been looking for some kind of tropical utopia," Coppola says. "This was the paradise hideaway I was looking for." The rest is history... Welcome to Blancaneaux Lodge.

Reviews for Blancaneaux Lodge

Perfect Christmas holiday

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

We stayed for a full week, Dec 20 through 27, and highly recommend Blancaneaux Lodge for a couple’s or family trip over Christmas. The service is incredible and there were lots of festive holiday touches, including special menus and treats. When it comes to day trips to see the famous Mayan sites of Belize and Guatemala, the staff truly excels. Every detail is thought through. Amir from the front desk team sought us out at dinner the evening before our day trip to Tikal - he made sure we understood how everything would work and offered a menu of to-go breakfast foods. On our trip to the Caracol archaeological site (do NOT miss it), we had one of our favorite guides of all time, Geraldo, who took great care of us. As for the lodge, we stayed in a “luxury deluxe” cabin, #12, which is situated at the far end of the property. Be aware that there are lots of steps along the path that leads to this particular cabin, which I wouldn’t recommend if traveling with someone who has serious mobility issues. The private deck with plunge pool overlooking the jungle and river below makes #12 a very special and romantic spot on the property.

Magic place with special staff but check the size of the accommodation when you book!

It’s a truly unique place, you feel like being in a different world. The staff is extremely kind, even when sometimes some of them forgets two out of three things you asked for, they are so nice that it’s never an issue. The only minus for us has been the cabana: we had the number 3 facing the river, the location was gorgeous but it was extremely small inside and they sold it for 2 adults and a kid when there was barely space for two people; moreover there is no space at all for the clothes so we ended up having three luggages opened on the floor for the entire time… we couldn’t even walk around!

AMAZING EXPERIENCE- Top notch service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I cannot speak more highly of our visit! From start to finish the lodge and staff were impeccable! I absolutely loved the lodge, nestled in the mountains I truly felt like I was in another world. The food was so fresh and amazing, highly recommend doing the garden dinner, we are not vegetarians and we LOVED it. The staff is beyond amazing, they take impeccable care of you. Our son got sick during our stay and all the staff checked on him and they arranged to take us to a local clinic to get antibiotics. We had Alex as a tour guide and I’m positive he’s the best in Belize; friendly, professional, personable and so knowledgeable! We learned a ton and he was wonderful to spend time with. Overall this is a fantastic place to stay and I would highly recommend!

Wonderful visit, hated to leave.

Warm and welcoming staff. Very accommodating and knowledgeable about everything. Lots of stairs, so I was able to work off extra calories from the delicious cocktails! The room was spacious, comfortable and extremely clean. Tillandsias and bromeliads everywhere. Just beautiful plantings. Ceviche is excellent and try the house made hot sauce. Ooo! Ask Manny for a rum tasting! The gift shop is well stocked with goodies.

Beautiful and exceeds all expectations

I stayed for a week at Blancaneaux with a friend. The property is beautiful, the tours and guides are top notch, and the food is really good, did I mention the cocktails? Delicious. Top all that off with the most welcoming and genuinely friendly staff who will make you not want to leave. Highly recommend, and hope to visit again.

We stayed at the Turtle Inn and Blancaneaux Lodge for a week in October, and it was the best vacation we have ever taken. The cabanas and cottages were lovely, the staff was incredible, and the food was outstanding. It's rare that you come home from vacation without a single negative thing to say - our only criticism is that we couldn't stay longer! It was truly an amazing experience.
