Emeline & Rachel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Emeline is a premier hotel located in downtown Charleston and is a jewel of the Charleston community. From the moment we walked in, we felt right at home. The General Manager, Rachel, greeted us at the front desk with a smile on her face and was extremely welcoming. My girlfriend & I stayed here due to our AC unit breaking down at our house, and it was a perfect (unplanned) staycation. Rachel, has made every step of our experience here at Emeline unforgettable. I'd highly recommend this property for any one looking to visit Charleston.

Solo female traveler approved

This sounds more like your voice—casual, personal, and recommendation-focused: I came to Charleston for a bachelorette weekend and decided to stay a few extra days by myself to explore the city. I stayed at the Emeline and honestly could not recommend it more. The hotel is beautiful, upscale, and right in the middle of downtown, so everything was super walkable. The restaurant downstairs was great, and I loved having the little café for coffee in the morning. One of my favorite touches was that every floor had a small kitchenette stocked with coffee, water, and fresh fruit every morning. The service was amazing the entire stay. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and the hotel just felt really welcoming. They also have bikes you can use, which was such a fun way to get around Charleston. While I was there, I did a ghost tour, a carriage ride through the city, and on my last night went to a comedy show down the road where the audience becomes part of the show—it was hilarious. If you’re visiting Charleston, I’d also highly recommend doing a kayaking trip. As a solo female traveler, I felt completely safe the entire time. I never felt nervous walking around downtown or coming back to the hotel at night. The Emeline was the perfect home base for my trip, and it made exploring Charleston on my own feel easy and relaxing. I would absolutely stay here again.

Still Good Overall

Beautiful hotel in a great location. Excellent restaurant. Front desk decent although a bit haphazard. Fitness facility could benefit from some consistent basics such as disposable wipe down cloths. Restaurant staff excellent although too much noise in the courtyard approaching 11 PM. Hotel rooms are adjacent.

Never Again

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Completely unimpressed for a hotel that was over $700 for one night. We arrived 1 PM and were told our room wasn’t ready, but that they’d prioritize and call us when it was ready. We opted to store our bags and walk around while we waited. At 4:30 PM we still hadn’t heard from the hotel and walked back to find our bags still sitting out unattended at the entrance. After checking with the front desk we were told our room wasn’t now ready - thanks so much for that courtesy call that never came. Immediately upon entering the room we noticed a distinct odor akin to a mold/plumbing issue that was masked with cleaning products. Absolutely disgusting. What was most interesting is that despite the efforts for the room to appear clean and fresh, it was not. Probably the dirtiest room I’ve ever had the “pleasure” of staying in and why is there no garbage can in the bathroom? The rooms are beyond tiny and it’s hard for 2 people to even exist in the room together. Beware.

Disappointed

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Room is tiny, old carpet, not properly cleaned for this rate. Even mirror looks like someone cleaned their teeth . Bed looks clean but sinks in like very worn. Our view is to the hotel air conditioning right outside the window. Bathroom looks renovated. Disappointing for our first visit to Charleston… first time TripAdvisor really let me down
