Fantastic Hospitality

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 22 hours ago

This is a beautiful hotel that is perfectly located. At every turn, you feel like you are in the lap of luxury, and the staff truly know how to treat you with hospitality. They were always attentive, without making you feel stifled. We went to every restaurant and bar they had, and the experience was top notch at every one. The pool staff and their manager were exceptional. A real oasis that made us forget the noise for a few days.

A beautiful gem in gorgeous Charleston

We stayed at the lovely Hotel Bennett and loved everything about the experience! From the wonderful staff to the locally appointed restaurants and sights within walking distance, everything about this hotel rings of perfection. I may begin with our arrival and the attention to unloading and assimilating, we were met with the most hospitable and attentive staff. After passing through the hotels beautiful lobby, settling in with the lovely concierge reception and perusing the champagne bar and intimate restaurant we were whisked up to a room that felt like the most favored, cozy and attended room in a palace; every detail whispered pampered and comfortable luxury. We took advantage of the spa, delectable pastry shop downstairs and room service one quiet evening; we were quite happy. So when in Charleston, we strongly recommend staying at the Hotel Bennet, you will remember it always.

Service that felt personal!

Traveling solo, I felt welcome from the moment I arrived. I had such a great stay mainly because everyone I met was genuinely friendly. The hotel is beautiful and spotless, and my corner room was bright, spacious, and incredibly comfortable. Hanna helped me with my bags and shared everything I needed to know about the hotel, so charming. Then Jordyn, the concierge, asked, "How adventurous would you like to be in Charleston?" From there, she put together an itinerary that was perfect for me. Instead of just pointing me to the usual tourist spots, she introduced me to experiences I never would have discovered on my own. The private tour with Ian Sanchez, Capers Island excursion, and the African American History Tour with Mr. Franklyn Williams were all highlights of my trip and very meaningful. I never made it to Gabrielle, but I could tell it is a favorite, always busy. I did end my last evening with a cocktail on the rooftop while watching the sunset. And of course, I couldn't leave without grabbing a blueberry muffin from La Pâtisserie! I can't wait to come back with my family.

The hotel's restaurant Gabrielle ruined our entire experience. Hotel Bennett itself is exquisite. We felt completely double crossed, hustled, and honestly hurt the moment we walked into the dining room and realized we were practically the only ones dressed according to the dress code policy posted on the hotel's website. We genuinely enjoy dressing up for fine dining and made a deliberate effort to select an appropriate wardrobe, fully expecting the restaurant to uphold its own standards. Instead, we were in total shock to find that everyone and I mean everyone was wearing shorts, t-shirts, or beach flip-flops. If you genuinely enjoy dressing up, this is absolutely not the restaurant you would want to take your date or spouse to for an anniversary. Virtually no one followed the dress code, and management did absolutely nothing about it.Gabrielle and Hotel Bennett utterly failed to protect the luxury experience they advertise. During breakfast, a man was permitted to dine in a sleeveless undershirt "wife-beater" and flip-flops. To make matters worse, women used a loophole to wear men's baseball caps indoors, rendering the "Gentlemen remove hats" sign completely useless. Dinner was just as disappointing. Despite a written policy explicitly requiring men to wear collared shirts and tailored pants for evening dining, a scant few followed it. The room was filled with several men wearing casual beach attire including flip flops. It is incredibly dishonest to publicize a strict luxury dress code to attract guests, only to completely abandon it at the door. Had we known the rules were an absolute joke, we would have avoided going here entirely. If we wanted a Waffle House or Cracker Barrel environment, we would have gone there and paid a fraction of the price. Management needs to remove the dress code from their website if they lack the backbone to enforce it.
