The hotel's restaurant Gabrielle ruined our entire experience. Hotel Bennett itself is exquisite. We felt completely double crossed, hustled, and honestly hurt the moment we walked into the dining room and realized we were practically the only ones dressed according to the dress code policy posted on the hotel's website. We genuinely enjoy dressing up for fine dining and made a deliberate effort to select an appropriate wardrobe, fully expecting the restaurant to uphold its own standards. Instead, we were in total shock to find that everyone and I mean everyone was wearing shorts, t-shirts, or beach flip-flops. If you genuinely enjoy dressing up, this is absolutely not the restaurant you would want to take your date or spouse to for an anniversary. Virtually no one followed the dress code, and management did absolutely nothing about it.Gabrielle and Hotel Bennett utterly failed to protect the luxury experience they advertise. During breakfast, a man was permitted to dine in a sleeveless undershirt "wife-beater" and flip-flops. To make matters worse, women used a loophole to wear men's baseball caps indoors, rendering the "Gentlemen remove hats" sign completely useless. Dinner was just as disappointing. Despite a written policy explicitly requiring men to wear collared shirts and tailored pants for evening dining, a scant few followed it. The room was filled with several men wearing casual beach attire including flip flops. It is incredibly dishonest to publicize a strict luxury dress code to attract guests, only to completely abandon it at the door. Had we known the rules were an absolute joke, we would have avoided going here entirely. If we wanted a Waffle House or Cracker Barrel environment, we would have gone there and paid a fraction of the price. Management needs to remove the dress code from their website if they lack the backbone to enforce it.

Incredible Hotel, unbelievable concierge

This hotel is nothing short of Amazing. Outside of the great amenities, accommodations, and dining, their concierge (Kevin McQuade) is second to none. This man put together a bike tour and dining experience that perfectly aligned to our preferences. I would wager that nobody knows more about the Charleston scene than Kevin, and he would move heaven and earth to ensure an excellent experience in this city for his guests.

Where Charleston Elegance Quietly Speaks for Itself

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

There are certain properties that do not simply host events, they shape experiences long before guests ever take their seats. Hotel Bennett is unquestionably one of those places. From the moment you enter, there is an immediate sense of refinement woven into every detail, the architecture, the softness of the interiors, the thoughtful pacing of the spaces, and the level of hospitality that makes guests feel both welcomed and elevated simultaneously. As a wedding photographer, I often pay attention to what most people overlook. Not only how a venue looks, but how it breathes throughout the day. How natural light settles into a room during late afternoon. How guests transition from cocktail hour into reception spaces. How intimate moments feel once candlelight replaces daylight. Hotel Bennett understands those transitions beautifully. What makes this property especially remarkable for weddings and exclusive celebrations is its ability to feel grand without ever losing warmth. The spaces photograph effortlessly, allowing florals, fashion, tablescapes, and emotion to coexist naturally within the architecture rather than compete against it. The staff was gracious, attentive, and deeply accommodating throughout the experience, which is often the defining difference between a beautiful venue and a truly exceptional one. For couples seeking a Charleston wedding venue that feels timeless, editorial, luxurious, and emotionally immersive, Hotel Bennett offers an experience that extends far beyond the event itself. Luis is great at front desk! Patesserie is awesome. Rooms so nice. Reminds me of salamander in Middleburg VA (which makes sense since same overall ownership group)
