Old Charleston Exemplified

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

I don't have a large enough vocabulary to adequately express how wonderful this place is. My wife and I stayed there along with some of my family for a weekend, and we found the staff, atmosphere and location all outstanding. I can't recommend this property enough. Want a genuine Old Charleston experience with wonderfully modern amenities? Here you go. Planters Inn.

Really nice

The Planters in is absolutely gorgeous. The lobby has a historic, yet clean warm vibe. There’s delicious coffee in the morning available to drink for free. There’s easy access to the restaurant in house and the little coffee shop next-door called Benne’s. I can honestly say that I poured through reviews and 90% of the things people talked about have been addressed. The rooms have double paned glass, wooden shutters, and thick curtains in an effort to keep out the noise. The smell of the hotel was lovely, not musty at all. The front desk was kind and helpful at all times. The rooms are also huge and beautiful. The bed was super comfortable. My only hesitation to give this Hotel and perfect review is the housekeeping does not represent the service of this level of a hotel. We would leave in the morning and come back at 4 o’clock, and our room would not be made up. We would call downstairs and request for the room to be made up and after coming back from dinner would find that the only thing done was the bed made. There could be a towel on the floor in the bathroom or garbage on the counter, needing to be disposed of, or clothes on the floor. At other hotels of this caliber things would be folded garbage would be disposed of. I called down to the desk one day to ask someone to come clean and he asked “what would you like them to do?” My parents were also at the hotel. They had a similarly disappointing experience with the housekeeping. My only other hesitation is some rooms do experience noise. My room had quite a bit of noise from a nearby nightclub and the street traffic overnight, but my parents room had none. The hotel seems to do everything they can to prevent noise but if you’re a light sleeper I would bring ear plugs. This still wouldn’t deter me from staying at the Planters Inn though.

Planters Inn is a very pleasant facility. It is in an old building that has been well maintained. Staff is very frie3ndly and accommodating. Its central location is a plus. Would not hesitate to stay there again.

Perfect Location

Perfect location for exploring. Extremely friendly staff! Access to Benne's and the courtyard was so lovely for midday breaks from the heat. Loved it and would return and stay here again!

One of the most beautiful places to stay.

We booked a Garden Courtyard Suite and it was lovely. It's wonderful to stay in a historic place and find that they have kept it up so well. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful. A nice oasis to return to each day, we felt like we had our own little Charleston secret garden every time we walked in. Staff was friendly and helpful. A little noise from the outside, but nothing I wouldn't expect from a downtown location. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. Dinner at the Peninsula Grill was superb.

Our visit to the Planters Inn last week was superb, as always. Thanks, Steve Boyd, for taking such good care of us when we arrived so early in the morning. Thanks, too, to everyone at the inn for making us feel at home. We're already looking forward to our next visit!
