The Great George

My partner and I were really looking forward to our three nights stay at this hotel in beautiful Charlottetown. From the moment we walked in we were totally deflated. The queue to check in was back to the front door with just one person on duty. Help with our luggage wasn’t available nor was there anyone to show us our room, not easy in this hotel with so many rooms in separate houses. They say this is a five star hotel but the quality of service barely makes it three On both afternoons at 1630h no one had serviced our rooms and we had to ask They didn’t refresh our glasses or mugs. Had to go into reception and get them Water was provided on the first night, the second and third we had to pay - and this supposedly a five star hotel The room phone didn’t work and each day I asked ‘it’s being fixed’ but it wasn’t If you do stay, ask for an upper floor room as the noise from the rooms above can and was in our case unbearable. 5.30 am onwards. Very little sleep Avoid this hotel, there many other places

We recently spent 2 nights in Charlottown at the Great George. The property consists of a block of old houses, connected, and turned into hotel, so, it is somewhat old with all the things that go with an old hotel (I would request a top floor room). That said, it is done beautifully. The lobby is charming, our room was large and well equipped. The beds are comfortable with nice linens, nothing special about the bathroom but everyting worked well. Our room was on the 3rd floor above a street but road noise was not an issue. Staff is welcoming and responsive to guest needs, they provide a great happy hour at 5pm. All the sights and restaurants in Charlottown are close and easily walkable, there are many really good restaurants in the area. This is a must stay if you plan on booking in Charlottown.

We enjoyed our stay at the Great George Hotel. We encountered friendly and helpful staff upon arrival and check in , especially Sam, who was patient explaining the hotel layout and rooms and also provided restaurant recommendations and directed us to the waterfront and downtown areas. The Wittmer Coombs room was lovely and spacious. The hotel is elegant and is unique based on its heritage. The location is central and was a quick walk to all the sights if the city. We would stay here again!

Location is great! Comfortable beds but Hotel definitely needs major upgrades and renovations. Bathroom does not have grab bars to get into tub; Stained carpets; opened window and wooden sill was falling apart.

We were very happy with our stay at The Great George. The staff were friendly and our condo was spacious. There was a couple of issues but once brought to the attention of the front desk it was resolved to our satisfaction. A big thank you to Megan Bruce. PEI is a wonderful place to visit friendly people and stunning scenery and beaches. This is our seventh trip to PEI and we hopefully will be back again soon.
