Reviews for The Leela Palace Chennai

Bad tasteless food

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 7 hours ago

One of the worst buffet that I ever eaten. It was an item by item disaster. For Sunday lunch buffet I paid Rs5000 for non alcoholic option, absolute rip off. Would never go back then. The only blessing in disguise are the waiters and the support staff who did a commendable job.

Luxury hotel with traditional look and modern comfort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

This is a nice hotel in upscale part of Chennai. While most newer hotels try to go for modern look, this hotel retained traditional look but elevated it with modern amenities. Service is good as can be experienced in most 5 star hotels in India. Most staff members did their best to provide the best customer service. Manager of the breakfast restaurant was extra nice. So was the Guest Relations Manager/Director. Pickup from the airport was prompt and grand in a nice BMW car. Welcomed with a traditional garland and a drink. Check in was smooth. Suite was pretty spacious and had most modern amenities comparable to international luxury hotels. Sea view was a big disappointment. It was so far away and the balcony doors were locked. For all the marketing they do it hardly feels like a seaside hotel. There was also some bad smell in the hallways. We were told it’s because of the humidity. Not sure why they can’t have some air fresheners. It was just awkward walking from the room to the elevators with that bad smell in a luxury hotel. There was also a mess up with regards to our request for specific rooms. I would have given this full 5 stars if not for these issues. Breakfast was fabulous with a combination of Indian and Western items, most of them freshly made. Same with lunch and dinner. Room service was also very good. They accommodated most requests for customization and were also prompt. Local tours were also organized very well in BMW cars. Sure, those came with a price. If me or my family happen to be in Chennai again, we will definitely consider this hotel. Highly recommended for those looking for a luxury hotel that is traditional in look and modern in comfort. I do hope they will address the odor issues and also figure out a way to open up the balconies for sea facing rooms/suites.
