We had a wonderful two days celebrating our anniversary at The Drake Hotel. It continues to be full of old world charm with upgraded amenities. Upon our arrival we were upgraded to a junior suite & provided with water bottles. Each day a member of the staff texted us to check to see if we needed anything. The Bookbinder soup is not to be missed and the drinks were generously poured. We'll see you again, Drake!

With this location, you had access to the whole city! Whether walking, bus, train, etc. it was a great location. The Uber ‘s came in handy when we did know exactly where we were going, but the people of Chicago were kind enough to help. The minute you walk into The Drake you are drawn in by the scent of the gorgeous oversized floral arrangement that greeted us into the lobby. We took advantage of the gym, and it’s equipment. Lavasza was a staple for our breakfast needs. It was our first visit to Chicago, so we also tried some of the surrounding favorites suggested by the hotel for lunches & dinners. The rooms were very spacious and provided the comfort of home, but you knew you were somewhere special that had some wonderful history.

The storied Drake Hotel was such a disappointment. First, the good things: The staff — caring, kind, friendly The location — ideal for exploring MI Ave. The disappointments: We checked in and hadn’t even made it to the elevator before being approached to buy a timeshare. The man was very nice, but it was kind of shocking, given the caliber of hotel. Next, our shower didn’t drain (at all), meaning 2 people were unable to shower before going out to dinner. The hotel was able to work on it while we were out and it was somewhat better the next morning. We came back to the “Family Room” and found the pullout sofa had no sheets or pillows, and there were none in the room. We waited about 20 minutes for someone to bring them up so my son could go to sleep. (The hotel employee was apologetic and insisted on making the bed for us.) The next day, the shower wasn’t draining properly again, leaving ankle-deep water. There was a used cocktail glass in the hallway, left by another guest, that remained there for more than 24 hours. And housekeeping carts were left in the hallway, outside a utility closet, for several hours. There was significant dust on a few different surfaces in our room. This is not what I would expect from such a beloved (and expensive) hotel. That being said, management was genuinely invested in making things right, once things were brought to their attention. The staff is the only reason I didn’t give this 2 stars. Sadly, my whole family agreed we wouldn’t stay here again. There are better hotels in the area.
