Noisy and Mixed Service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

While we loved the history and architecture, overall the stay was just ok. The doors and windows appeared to be original, which while charming meant that the room was pretty noisy (4th floor) both from the street noise AND the hallway. While I realize it’s not the hotel’s fault some parents let their elementary kids run up and down the hall yelling at 10p, the lack of soundproofing meant absolutely no muffling. The amenities are also aging, with what appeared to be mold forming on our shower curtain, and an older flat screen tv that didn’t offer smart connections (like Netflix). Like another reviewer we also had an awful experience at the on site breakfast. Like waited 20minutes before being offered help. And then 30 after we finished eating before we managed to get someone’s attention for the check. I would definitely suggest eating breakfast off site, though our tea service was substantially better. We did like the location. But if we come back again we will likely choose a different hotel as there are a lot in the area.

Family Christmas at The Drake

Lesly alone is the reason why I would consider returning again and again!!! Lesly is truly the best Guest Service Agent I have ever encountered. From the very first interaction, she was incredibly personable, warm, and genuinely invested in making our experience exceptional. Her professionalism is unmatched, and she has a natural ability to anticipate needs before they’re even expressed. Lesly consistently demonstrates outstanding communication skills, attention to detail, and a calm, solutions-oriented approach—no matter the situation. She is approachable, thoughtful, and goes above and beyond to ensure every guest feels valued and cared for. Her positive attitude, empathy, and authenticity make her a standout, and it’s clear she takes great pride in her work. She embodies what exceptional hospitality should be and is a true asset to the team. Experiences like ours are the reason guests return, and Lesly is a major part of that.

Horrible service. Better service at Holiday Inn!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

My Husband and I were so excited to stay at the Drake to celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, we were appalled at the wildly substandard service. At breakfast, I had to ask four times - for a glass of water! My Husband initially ordered a dish, and before the server even left the tableside, my Husband cancelled his initial order and asked for another item. The server brought both dishes out. At check-in, the desk person said he gave us a 50 dollar credit to be used at the hotel. It was never applied to our account, even though I had stopped at the front desk to inquire about the credit being applied to our very expense breakfast, and was assured it would be, because there was a "lag" time between when the breakfast would show up our hotel bill and the credit being applied. I should have ran away when we first arrived. There were a group of bell men standing around talking when we pulled up. Not one of them approached us. It was only after I walked over and grabbed the fancy brass luggage cart and pulled it to our car, that the bell captain came running over and asked me: "Do you want help with your luggage?" (Boy did I have to bite my tongue to avoid saying something snarky!) Save your money. You will have better service and a more enjoyable stay at a lower priced hotel which has service mentality culture. (In defense of the restaurant crew, it looked as if they were wildly short staffed. And that is due to poor management/corporate systems and policies.)

Great service, perfect location right on the Magnificent Mile, clean and lovely. Tea at the Palm Court is a must, but book it early.

Still one of my favorite hotels in Chicago. So history, so beautiful and such a good stay. The staff is wonderful and helpful and my family had such a great time. High tea and a nice stay is a must!
