About the Hotel

The legendary The Drake Hotel has been a symbol of Chicago luxury since opening in 1920 at the intersection of the Magnificent Mile and Lake Shore Drive. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the hotel blends Gilded Age grandeur with modern comforts, welcoming guests through an iconic lobby adorned with crystal chandeliers, ornate detailing, and timeless architectural elegance. The 535-room property offers a range of accommodations, from classic guestrooms to specialty suites, many featuring views of Lake Michigan and the city skyline. While the hotel embraces its historic character, guests enjoy contemporary amenities including a 24-hour fitness center, pet-friendly accommodations, in-room dining, and attentive service that reflects more than a century of hospitality.

Dining is one of The Drake's defining experiences. The famed Palm Court has hosted afternoon tea for nearly a century, welcoming notable guests including royalty and cultural icons, while Coq d'Or remains one of Chicago's most historic cocktail lounges. The hotel's prime Gold Coast location places guests steps from Oak Street Beach, luxury shopping along the Magnificent Mile, acclaimed restaurants, museums, and the lakefront trail.

First Cabin Service

Once again, outstanding service. There simply is no place like the Drake in terms of old worldly charm, grace, and tip-your-hat service.

Timeless Charm, Unforgettable People

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

We just celebrated our fourth wedding anniversary at The Drake, and once again, it was nothing short of exceptional. What makes this hotel so special isn't just its history or beautiful atmosphere, it's the people. From the valet staff and concierge to the front desk and food service team, every single person takes genuine pride in what they do. Damien, the General Manager, is remarkably hands-on, and it's clear that his leadership sets the tone for the entire hotel. His team speaks highly of him, and that culture of hospitality shines through in every interaction. The Drake has a way of making us feel like family. Everything feels effortless from the moment we arrive, allowing us to relax, reconnect, and fully enjoy our time together. It's rare to find a place where the hospitality is not only exceptional, but also so genuine and consistent year after year. Thank you for helping make our anniversary so memorable. We already look forward to our next stay and hope to celebrate many more anniversaries at The Drake for years to come.

Old and smelled like smoke

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

Very old and dated hotel located on Michigan Ave. Friendly staff, but this hotel is dated and uncomfortable. The bathroom was tooth a tub/shower and shower curtain. Room had ugly carpet and smelled of smoke. I should have asked for a new room bc of the smoke, but I arrived late and just wanted to sleep. Was here one night and won't ever book again.
