Terrible Experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 13 hours ago

Many housekeeping issues TLDR: issues with unchecked mini fridge, being almost walked in on while changing, being made to receive something through the door while changing, needing to call front desk 3 times for basic request, and being ignored by management after letting them know about these issues 1) Housekeeping did not check the minibar after the previous guest of the room checked out. There were items that had been taken from the minibar that would have been charged to me if not for the fact that the previous guest also left medication in the fridge (ie proof that the fridge was not checked). 2) I had walked in on my room being serviced and requested that I have my room back for an hour so that I can change for my next event. The staff left, but tried to come back in the room 15 minutes later when I was in the middle of changing!! When I told her that I was changing and asked if she could come back later, she proceeded to hand me the bedsheets through the half open door. Why was it necessary to almost walk in on an almost naked guest and force her to come to the door to receive bedsheets????? 3) There is a slowness of response time for basic requests as well. I requested an extra blanket in the morning around 7- 8am, saw that it wasn't there in the afternoon, requested it again. Came back at night and it still wasnt there. I called a third time for the same request, and the hotel was finally able to send it up 15 minutes after the third request. I reflected all of these complaints in person, and was told that since I was checking out soon there will be no time for management to address anything until a few days after checkout. A few days have now passed, and I have heard nothing.

Go for Gold!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Just spent a few days in a “Gold” room with lounge access. It is really worth the extra cost. Breakfast was delicious and Mandana was the loveliest, most helpful person you can imagine. The hotel is well located for all the sites to visit.

Great location. Lovely hotel but (some?) rooms need updating

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Fabulous location. Lovely, luxurious reception area and large comfortable rooms (with an okay view!) My only criticism was that I felt like the tired decor in the room let it down. It definitely needed to be updated, particularly as it was not cheap to stay here, but also because it was a contrast to the standard of quality that was felt throughout the rest of the hotel. The bathroom was very nice , but again could possibly benefit from a some updates. We are definitely going to return to Chicago and as much as we enjoyed our stay, we wouldn’t return here for the same (at least not for the same price we paid this time) as I feel we could get better value for money elsewhere.

A poor start but ended well

I was part of a large booking and advised I would be arriving early. I dropped my bags at 10am and was advised a room would be available at an extra USD100. My booking was for 8 nights so said I would go out for a couple of hours and then check status. I returned and was advised my room was not ready but wouldn't be long so I waited. I continued to check for the next 3 hours and 45min until I got my room 15min before standard check in. I was not offered use of the club lounge which was part of my booking and a day wasted because of poor information so a very disappointing start. Toro - the only in house dining. Give it a miss. Terrible service and a very soggy burger. Much better places to experience. I was on the 17th floor with a large room looking out to a snippet of Lake Michigan - very nice! Highlights were really some of the staff that really made a difference: Mandana in the Club Lounge. What a special human. She made myself and my colleagues so welcome and we all appreciated your smile and welcome every day at breakfast. When you are travelling a lot, people like Mandana make you feel at home. Benjamin - an absolute delight. Again making every single guest feel welcomed like they are returning home. And a fabulous energy! Bobby - I wish you had been working on my arrival day. Two interactions on the front desk and both wonderful. Thank you Management - please look after these colleagues. I travel a lot and they are special and the reason we return.

Really Cool Hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We came from the Philippines 16 hour flight to Chicago via Korean Airlines. Fairmont Hotel was like a soothing place to be in. The staff were courteous and the servers very friendly . I specially liked the doorman who gave us instructions to the pier to go on an architectural tour with my friends . He was very nice . My friend and I had a good time . The beds were very comfy and my roomate badgered them for ice cubes every night because she had to soak her ice bag. The staff were multicultural - my housekeeper was Chinese from Hong Kong. They eventually gave us a freezer for my roommates needs much to my amusement. Had a couple of mojitos in the Toro restaurant and a Taco at Happy hour - not too expensive. Waiters were very nice. I liked the hotel very much and would not mind staying there again next time I’m in Chicago although I have friends there who I can stay with. Next time you are in the vicinity - stay at the Fairmont .. walking distance from everything and there was a CVS that was fairly well stocked right in front.
