I checked in for a weekend getaway at around 5 p.m. and was informed that my room (category booked) was not ready. Given I had an event I had no choice but to accept what was given. I was not offered the option to move later, which has happened before nor an upgrade to compensate. I booked a breakfast-included rate which I confirmed with the front desk as being on the reservation. The next morning I was informed that breakfast was served at La Bella restaurant. The restaurant does not offer a buffet breakfast, only an à la carte menu. I was told that I could order anything except alcohol. Upon checkout, I was informed that I would receive a $60/day credit for breakfast. This was the first time I was told this. More was spent obviously. In a typical dismissive attitude, I decide to leave and deal with the issue afterwards. The hotel was contacted by priceline and they are sticking with their $60/day credit, this in unacceptable. First impressions are everything. Upon checking in the mood amongst the reception personnel was jovial, if a bit collegiate and not too professional. Training needed. Booked the reservation through Priceline, with the caveats that one reads about hotel not finding the reservation or details. I called the hotel and confirmed that they could see the reservation to avoid issues. As far as the breakfast included issue is concerned, I found out that La Bella restaurant does not belong to the hotel. The hotel has nice public areas, Boleo is a nice restaurant, we had dinner and drinks there. I always aim to give a 5* rating. This is not the case.

Great Hotel. 15 minute walk to the Bean. Lots of restaurants nearby. Middle of financial district so you'll need to drive/bus/train to a lot of the bigger sites. Major positive - Emily at the desk around midnight in Sunday. Absolutely delightful, helpful, funny, etc... She's the kind of representative every hotel chain should have. Thank you Emily! Only minor negative - not many vegan options with the hotel restaurants, and pretty limited hours for room service, but that's something you know in advance. Overall, great place!

What a great place to explore Chicago from. The accomodations were, of course, first c lass, but the key to our enjoyment was undoubtedly the staff. From morning coffee, through meals and the afternoon wine, until our heads hit the pillows, any question, any need was professionally and pleasantly handled. I take time to single out with pride, desk staff Stefan B.. He was above and beyond any preconceived notion of help, guide and friend. We hope to return soon. There is no way we could stay anywhere else in Chicago

Although there was a mixup and the room I had originally requested was not available, Mamadou was able to remedy the issue quickly and with the utmost professionalism. He was able to offer a suitable alternative and I felt that he was sincerely working to make sure I had the best experience possible, despite a booking error. I liked his personable nature, it certainly put me, a weary traveler at ease. I will be coming back!

If you're looking for a place to stay in Chicago, I would recommend the Kimpton Gray Hotel without hesitation! First, the location is great. It was convenient for getting around the city, the surrounding area was clean, and I felt safe and comfortable walking around—which is always important when I'm choosing a hotel. The hotel itself is beautiful, the rooms are wonderfully appointed, and everything was extremely clean. Yes, it is a little pricey, but in my opinion, it's worth it. What really made our stay special, was the staff. Everyone we encountered was extremely friendly and went above and beyond. A special thank you to Shea and Amy, and hats off to the valet crew! The level of hospitality throughout our stay was exceptional. We also ate at La Bella Trattoria, located right inside the hotel, and really enjoyed it. The restaurant is beautiful, the food was very good, and once again, the staff was wonderful. And if you need another indication of just how beautiful this property is, there were four different wedding events taking place during our stay! Knowing that so many couples chose the Kimpton Gray for such an important occasion says a lot about the hotel and the atmosphere. A few things to know: the hotel does not offer an airport shuttle, but we took a Lyft back to the airport, and it wasn't very expensive. My only small wishes would be some type of complimentary or discounted parking option for guests who have someone visiting them at the hotel and a few simple breakfast pastries—muffins, danishes, etc.—to enjoy with the complimentary morning coffee and tea. Those are minor details compared with the overall experience. Everything else was wonderful. The beautiful hotel, great location, cleanliness, excellent restaurant, and especially the people made our stay memorable. As a travel consultant, I’m always looking for hotels I can confidently recommend to my clients, and after experiencing the Kimpton Gray for myself, I can honestly say this is one of them. We had a wonderful experience from beginning to end, and I would absolutely stay here again.
