A modern, stylish sanctuary in an architecturally rich town, the glass-walled Kinzie Hotel extends to its guests River North’s impeccable taste for what’s culturally relevant. The design is clean-lined, the art is eclectic and the inspiration derives from adventurous settler and trader John Kinzie. This Preferred Hotels & Resorts property – part of the Preferred Hotel Group – is a city fixture for the business traveler, couple or group looking for both escape and arrival.

We recently stayed at the Kinzie Hotel in Chicago and had a wonderful experience overall. This was an easy 4-star stay for us, and with one improvement, it easily could have been a 5-star review. The location is fantastic. It's an easy walk to both the Brown and Purple Lines at Merchandise Mart, as well as the Red, Brown, Green, Orange, Pink, and Purple Lines at State & Lake. We found it to be the perfect home base for exploring the city, and there were countless restaurants within walking distance. If you have the chance, I highly recommend Andy's Jazz Club, just around the corner. It's one of the few jazz clubs that welcomes kids and young adults under 21, making it a great option for families. I didn't take photos because the professional photos already posted are very accurate. Our room looked exactly like the pictures, and everything was spotless. The room, bathroom, and common areas were all clean and well maintained throughout our stay. We booked a room with one king bed and a pull-out sofa. The king bed was incredibly comfortable, but the sofa bed was a major disappointment. It sat at an odd angle, the mattress was extremely thin, and my 17- and 21-year-old kids could both feel the support bar underneath them. Thankfully, they're good sports. When I offered to ask about switching to a room with two queen beds, they laughed it off and made the best of it with extra pillows and blankets. We also had to request bedding for the sofa bed even though our reservation clearly listed four guests. I want to be clear that the reason I'm mentioning this isn't to complain—it's to help future travelers make the best room choice. We booked a room advertised to sleep four people, and I think it's reasonable to expect that four adults should be able to sleep comfortably in that room. If you're traveling with older children or adults, I would strongly recommend booking a room with two queen beds instead of relying on the sofa bed. Like most downtown hotels, the street can be noisy during the evening, but around midnight everything became surprisingly quiet. We had no trouble getting a good night's sleep. The staff deserves special recognition. Every single person we interacted with was warm, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. They were probably the nicest hotel staff I've encountered anywhere. Although we never asked to change rooms, I honestly believe they would have done everything they could to make things right had we mentioned the sofa bed. That was the level of service we experienced throughout our stay. Breakfast was exactly what I expect from a complimentary hotel breakfast—in a good way. There were make-your-own waffles, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, assorted breads and bagels, Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches, coffee, water, orange juice, and apple juice. The coffee was a little watered down for my taste, but perfectly drinkable. If you need gluten-free options, my daughter has celiac disease and was pleasantly surprised. The staff offered individually wrapped gluten-free muffins and egg bites. She enjoyed both, but especially liked the muffins. That thoughtful accommodation was greatly appreciated. We didn't use the fitness center, but we did make it to happy hour twice. They offered Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Starry, water, beer, and wine. The snack was individual cups of Gardetto's mix with peanuts. When we asked about gluten-free snacks, we were told there weren't any available. One bartender mentioned they usually also have popcorn, but unfortunately, the popcorn machine wasn't working during our stay. The atmosphere is what you'd expect from a downtown Chicago hotel—modern, comfortable, and geared toward travelers. It's not a destination resort, but it was a great place to come back to after a full day of exploring the city. On our departure day, we had a late flight, and the hotel happily stored our luggage so we could enjoy a few more hours in Chicago before heading to the airport. That small courtesy made our last day much more enjoyable. For anyone wondering about value, I thought the Kinzie Hotel offered good value for downtown Chicago. The excellent location, complimentary breakfast, happy hour, and exceptional staff made it well worth the price. My ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Staff & Service ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Location ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cleanliness ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ Atmosphere ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ Value Overall, I would absolutely stay at the Kinzie Hotel again. The outstanding staff, unbeatable location, comfortable king bed, and thoughtful service far outweighed the disappointing sofa bed. The only reason this isn't a 5-star review is because a room advertised to sleep four adults should have a sofa bed that's comfortable enough for four adults to actually use. Book a room with two queen beds instead, and I think you'll have an excellent stay

We will stay st thr Kinzie again. Our room and the hotel itself was clean. The complimentary happy hour and continental breakfast were a great help. Staff was friendly, professional, and consistent. The location is great but it does get loud at night so be aware of that. I cannot say enough good things about Kinzie. I will recommend to family and friends.

Amazing experience. Room was very clean, great amenities, and close to everything that you need. Thank you to James at the front desk for going above and beyond for me at 3am to get me in and saving my trip, very professional and knows the area. If you want to experience Chicago, stay here and ask for James.
