Reviews for Pendry Chicago

Service great, rooms underwhelming

Altogether this hotel is very nice for the price, especially with the American Express partnership. I would highly recommend coming here for the service and the happy hour specials!

Great location, terrible service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The location was fantastic; located right next to the river and near the Magnificent Mile, it was super convenient. The building itself was beautiful, with a lot of historic charm. The robes provided in the room were really nice: they were thick, soft, and plush. Though, they sometimes did have a clump of hair stuck on them, which was kinda gross to have to pick out. The service unfortunately left some things to be desired. We had booked the Pendry using my Chase Travel benefits (it's one of "The Edit" hotels in the area), but upon check-in, we weren't informed of the included benefits until I pressed further for details; if I hadn't remembered that it was booked with additional benefits, those benefits (including hotel and breakfast credit) would've just gone to waste throughout our stay. The breakfast credit included room service, so we opted to get breakfast delivered to our room by filling out the provided order form and hanging it on our door. Overnight, at 2:18am, we were startled awake by the sound of loud knocking on the door. Why? No idea; they stopped knocking shortly after we woke up and we were too tired to get up for something as trivial as follow-up questions about our breakfast order. On our last day, we ordered room service for breakfast again. We requested a 8:30-9am window and they knocked on our door exactly at 8am, while we were still sleeping. On top of that, they even got our order wrong, so we got out of bed early, irritable and groggy, only to have to call to get our breakfast remade, and they didn't even acknowledge their error and apologize. And since we checked out that morning, it was a disappointing end to our trip. While the location and facilities were great, I unfortunately can't recommend staying here until their service improves.

Anniversary Trip

Muriel Tan welcomed us when we arrived to check in at The Pendry Hotel in Chicago on 6/25/2026. We took this train to Chicago for two nights to celebrate our 41st Anniversary. Muriel was wonderful when we checked in as well as showing us around the lobby of the hotel and the restaurants. She gave us all the information we needed to have an absolutely wonderful stay. All of the staff gets compliments from both of us for the warmth and friendliness they showed for our two night visit. Thank you very much! Mike & Marcie Balcer Racine, Wisconsin

Our time with the pantry was memorable, which was what we were hoping to do, make memories!

Our experience was terrific from beginning to end. Micheal greeted us at the door and he was the last person we saw upon our departure. He took very good care of us

Luxury Pricing, But Not a Luxury Experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I stayed at The Pendry Chicago for several nights and booked through Bilt’s Home Away From Home program. Given the property’s reputation and price point, I expected a much more polished experience. Unfortunately, the stay fell well short of what I would consider luxury. The problems started at check-in. There was no mention of the package, no acknowledgment of the benefits, and no explanation of what was included with my booking. The front desk associate seemed unfamiliar with the program, and there did not appear to be any note attached to my reservation. No one gave me any real orientation to the hotel either: restaurants, breakfast, amenities, Wi-Fi, or even the basic details you would expect at check-in. I eventually had to ask for a manager, who provided a one-level room upgrade and walked me through the on-property benefits. At a hotel in this category, that should not require escalation. One of the benefits was a $60 breakfast credit for two people. In reality, that does not come close to covering breakfast for two once coffee, tax, and service charges are added. A luxury hotel benefit should feel like a benefit, not a minor offset against already high pricing. Service throughout the stay was inconsistent. The bell staff and room service delivery team were friendly and professional. Unfortunately, the front desk and concierge experience felt detached and unwelcoming. There was very little warmth, polish, or sense of hospitality. The room itself was fine, but not memorable. Comfortable enough, but very average for the rate. The light switches were oddly configured, including needing to go toward the front door area to turn off certain lights. There was also a light inside the wardrobe area where pants were hung that flickered like a strobe and would not stay on properly. The windows were visibly dirty. The Wi-Fi was painfully slow, which made the room even less functional for anyone trying to work. Room service was also extremely expensive, with delivery fees and additional charges layered onto already high menu prices. The biggest issue by far was the noise. I had read other reviews mentioning it and assumed it might be typical downtown-hotel feedback. It was not. The noise was constant: sirens, honking, emergency vehicles, street activity, and maintenance or repair work with power tools. This was not occasional background noise. It was disruptive enough that working from the room, taking client calls, or getting meaningful rest was difficult. For a property at this level, the soundproofing is simply not adequate. Better-insulated windows should be standard, especially in a downtown location where street noise is predictable. Overall, I would not stay here again. Chicago has too many strong hotel options to justify luxury pricing without a luxury-level experience. Between the inconsistent service, average room, painfully slow Wi-Fi, expensive food and beverage, and the inability to work or sleep without constant disruption, this was a disappointing stay.
