PUBLIC Chicago is a complete transformation of the Gold Coast's famed Ambassador East Hotel and its historic Pump Room restaurant. Rich with a cultural heritage that spans decades, the hotel and the Pump Room was a place to see and be seen and played host to a multitude of celebrities and people from all over the world and all walks of life. A reinvented and reimagined hotel and Pump Room with a new food concept by James Beard award winning chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, will continue to be the fashionable spot it was originally envisioned to be, for an eclectic mix of people who come together to socialize and dine as they have for past decades. It will still be the hotel and Pump Room, but better. PUBLIC Chicago's 285 spacious and oversized guest rooms and suites are individually furnished with integrity, taste and superb functionality.

Wish I had taken the other reviews online seriously. Arrived and had additional $397 tacked onto my bill for “guest benefits package” and “reservation recovery fee”. This was for 3 night stay. Avanti at front desk was very kind, but this non-optional fee I didn’t know about is not fair. Hotel is just meh. I would have stayed elsewhere had I known. Run run run from this place.

Too expensive for a Gold coast hotel! Giving the rating 1 because of so many issues. From reservations issues, over charging from reservation retrieval. Not good for the handicap. Stairs everywhere. Furniture was very uncomfortable. Beds were too low to the ground. Couches had down feathers, which were crushed once you sit on them. (no support) Bathroom toilet area was so small, you didn't have enough room to access the toilet paper. Breakfast was included in the 119.00$ package and everything was cold every day! Chairs and tables in the dining area where also uncomfortable. Unacceptable for a property like this in the Gold Coast ! - I wish I took some pictures to show how the couches looked. Just stay someplace else - it's not worth the hassle.

I am currently standing in the check-in line with a large group and several others while there is one person at the front desk and no one else available to assist. I packed my patience as I had read up on this in advance but this is a poor start to a 3 day visit. The service unacceptable. No one answers the phone and it’s sadly disappointing. I will only hope that moving forward into the weekend that the rest is going to be better. If so, I will write a second review. STILL WAITING…

Total scam - go somewhere else. They have hidden fine print to slam with with HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS IN UNDISCLOSED HOTEL FEES! And no refunds after booking! The place is no longer a Hyatt property and is being run by complete scammers.

Been looking forward to this trip for nearly a year now. Chicago itself was great but that changed when we checked in. We were immediately hit with the inclusive package fee which was around $700 dollars. We were not aware of this as when we booked this holiday originally it was still run by Hyatt group. So reluctantly we paid it. When you look at what you get for it, it seems a big con. Buffet breakfast ticket $35 each. Breakfast was mediocre at best, lukewarm most of the time. Dinner discount ticket of $10 which was never used. Not many people I know travel halfway round the world to have dinner in the hotel when there is so much good restaurants in the area. Biggest moan yet comes to the $16 one drink ticket. Fine if you are having cocktails but as a guy for me it's a beer which was $8 so you have lost the same amount and the hotel gains. Going by the amount of reviews on here complaining about it, it can't all be 3rd party booking sites who are wrong. Yes it's advertised on the Ambassador website but that looks as far as it goes. This should be entirely optional and not forced on a person as soon as they check in. I ended up giving my unused tickets to homeless people on the street and hopefully they will get some use out of it. The hotel itself is in a great location but severely dated. AC sounded like a rocket going through the room. Bathroom door looked as if a bottle of coke had sprayed against it. Staff are great but the way this hotel is and is being run, I would advise you to look elsewhere first as there is a lot better out there at the same price.
