About the Hotel

PUBLIC Chicago is a complete transformation of the Gold Coast's famed Ambassador East Hotel and its historic Pump Room restaurant. Rich with a cultural heritage that spans decades, the hotel and the Pump Room was a place to see and be seen and played host to a multitude of celebrities and people from all over the world and all walks of life. A reinvented and reimagined hotel and Pump Room with a new food concept by James Beard award winning chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, will continue to be the fashionable spot it was originally envisioned to be, for an eclectic mix of people who come together to socialize and dine as they have for past decades. It will still be the hotel and Pump Room, but better. PUBLIC Chicago's 285 spacious and oversized guest rooms and suites are individually furnished with integrity, taste and superb functionality.

MISLEADING LISTING AND BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

We bought a special deal on Priceline. The Priceline listing referenced "incidental expenses". When we arrived at the hotel to check in, we discovered that "incidental expenses" includes a MANDATORY $147 PER NIGHT "resort fee" for meals and amenities we didn't want and couldn't afford to pay for. So we had to walk away and stay with family. Neither the Ambassador Gold Coast nor Priceline will refund the money we paid Priceline, despite the fact that we showed up on time for the reservation but couldnt afford the stay. Priceline says talk to the hotel, the hotel says talk to Priceline. After 3 weeks of calling almost daily I am filing this review in disgust at the misleading listing and unwillingness of either organization to take responsibility.

Horrible, bait and switch, unethical!!

Prepaid through Priceline. When we got there to check in we were forced to pay for the all inclusive package. Complete SCAM!! $146/DAY!! We have been to this hotel several times in the past and NEVER encountered this!! We will NEVER go back!! Breakfast is garbage and they value it at $70. What a joke!! New ownership doesn’t have a clue!! Stay away from this place at all costs!!!!!! When you check in they are waiting to bombard you with fine print rules stating you must pay for all inclusive, Chris and Annie at front desk- AWFUL!! UNETHICAL!! DISHONEST!! BAIT AND SWITCH!!!!!

Scam Resort Fee

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

Booked this hotel on what I figured was a too good to be true rate. When I dug in I discovered a MASSIVE $175 a night resort fee. There is no other way to describe this than a scam. This hotel should be ashamed.

Hotel refused to honor my reservation.

I booked a stay at the Ambassador through a major OTA just to test how transparent their pricing really was. At no point during the booking process was there any mention of an additional $150 “Guest Experience Package” fee. When I arrived, the hotel refused to honor the OTA rate unless I paid this undisclosed charge. I reached out to management for clarification, but they never bothered to respond. The lack of transparency and complete disregard for guests is disappointing, and ultimately it reflects poorly on the hotel — not the OTA. These kinds of hidden fees are deceptive and undermine trust. Needless to say, I won’t be returning.

Add about $170 bucks to your "deal"

I booked a room from Sunday to Wednesday through super and once I arrived they said it's an additional $164 per night resort fee. On top of the booking price and the $125 security deposit. I literally waited 11 hours in the lobby for a room before the booking site finally said they weren't covering the unadvertised mark-up. The Omni it most certainly is not.
