The Royal Sonesta Chicago River North

Spacious clean rooms and friendly staff. That being said, beware of the shared pool with the residents next door. We were not notified that this was a shared pool anywhere on their website and the pool area was taken by a large resident party. Unfortunately it was super inappropriate for children so we had to leave. We also had issues with neighboring rooms smoking marijuana and wafting into our room. We did call it in, but I don’t know if or how they actually put a stop to it because it did get better later. In the morning they had coffee, but didn’t check it regularly so it was out by 8:30 am and didn’t offer decaf. I appreciated all the staff, but I wouldn’t stay here again with a family due to the pool issue.

This hotel and the adjoining “State and Grand” condominium units all share the hotel’s indoor pool, fitness center, and rooftop terrace, and the adjoining condominium tenants and their guests have free access to the 17th floor from their own elevators . What this meant to hotel guests on this Saturday afternoon and evening was a five hour full volume pool, terrace and “ hallway party”, which was held right in front of our room’s door, with limited hotel guest access to the pool and deck during this time . The hotel staff said they could do nothing about it because “no laws were being broken” and they have “ no control over the condo”. So, you see there is an absolutely terrible arrangement resulting in a real disregard for the comfort and security of “ temporary” hotel guests in favor of the condo residents . Hotel staff apologized but repeatedly explained there was nothing they could do. They don’t have authority, They also don’t know what to do. It is hard to believe a Royal Sonesta hotel could be run like this. On top of which the gym is open 24/7 and weightlifting /heavy dropping of weights takes place at all hours, making it impossible to sleep well in the rooms next to the gym if its in late night use. Of course condo tenants mostly use the gym which explains their lack of concern or consideration for the hotel guests . There is something seriously wrong with the way this hotel is being managed, and being misrepresented, as well.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We are currently staying at this hotel and have had an amazing experience so far. The room is beautiful, spacious, and very comfortable, and the view is absolutely stunning. The hotel is clean, well-maintained, and has exceeded our expectations. The staff has been incredibly friendly and welcoming. A special shoutout to Antwonne, who has been especially helpful throughout our stay. He is friendly, professional, attentive, and always willing to assist with anything we need. His outstanding customer service has made our experience even more enjoyable. We are thoroughly enjoying our stay and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a great experience!
