The Windy City has long been home to Italian and Irish Americans, but there is now a French revolution underway at 20 East Chestnut - where Sofitel Chicago Water Tower resides. This 32-story downtown delight boasts a sleek design with equally modern interiors. Rooms take on a minimalist feel without sacrificing noted amenities. It is pure pleasure with designer furnishings, oversize marble baths, and cityscape views. The lobby, illuminated by the soft glow of candles, boasts relaxing conversational nooks, intriguing artwork and the aroma of fresh flowers.

I worked with this hotel to secure a room block for an event hosted in Chicago. Despite a citywide event taking place at the same time, they were able to accommodate my group and stay within my budget. The staff was attentive, responsive, and easy to work with throughout the entire process. I would highly recommend them for group bookings and events.

We have stayed at the Sofitel Chicago multiple times, and every visit has been a great experience. From the moment you walk into the hotel, it feels upscale, clean, and welcoming. The lobby always smells fresh, and the staff are consistently friendly and helpful. Valet parking is available, which makes arrival very convenient—you can simply pull up, unload your bags, and let the staff take care of the rest. The hotel offers a couple of dining options. Breakfast is not included with your stay, but the restaurant has excellent food choices and really good coffee. In the evenings, we enjoyed dining at the other restaurant and sitting out on the patio. The food and wine were both very good, and the outdoor seating was a nice place to relax after a day of sightseeing. The rooms are comfortable and well-appointed. The beds are comfortable with plenty of extra pillows, and the hotel provides thoughtful amenities such as bathrobes, disposable slippers, makeup wipes, Q-tips, and shower caps. The Balmain shampoo, conditioner, and bath products are a nice upscale touch. We also appreciated the boxed water that was replenished daily and the little chocolates left in the room. The location is excellent. It's about a 5–10 minute walk to the Magnificent Mile and shopping areas, including American Girl. Because it's slightly removed from the busiest part of the area, the hotel feels a bit quieter and more relaxing. Being right next to Jeni's Ice Cream is an added bonus! The hotel also offers complimentary citrus-infused cold water in the lobby throughout the day, as well as coffee and tea in the mornings, which we found very convenient. The views from the rooms are beautiful, and overall the hotel is very clean and well-maintained. That said, there are a couple of minor areas for improvement. During one stay, the handheld faucet in the bathtub leaked slightly. On another stay, the shower design felt somewhat narrow and awkward, especially for my husband who had recently undergone knee surgery. Fortunately, on a later visit, the shower setup was much better. We also noticed some water damage on a framed picture in the bathroom that could use replacement. Despite these small issues, our experiences at the Sofitel Chicago have been overwhelmingly positive. The excellent service, comfortable rooms, convenient location, and thoughtful amenities keep us coming back. We would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting Chicago.

Pretty abysmal service. At check in they told me I could shorten my stay by 1 night so I changed my flight. On check out, the manager told me I couldn’t modify my reservation and I was now out $300 paying for the extra night I didn’t use. The manager refused to acknowledge the misinformation provided by her staff and was quite rude in addressing me. Much better customer service at Marriott hotels, where desk staff actually knows how to do their jobs. I’d do yourself a favor and avoid this hotel.

From arrival to departure, Jillian was instrumental in helping me get acclimated to the area from restaurants, directions, and checking in early. Jillian made me feel welcomed and appreciated. Jillian’s five star personality and invaluable customer service is greatly appreciated as it’s rare these days. Sofitel is the only hotel I will be staying at in Chicago.

Great location close to everything. The hotel is walking distance to many great sights. Shout out to Vince, Jillian and Lily at the front desk.
