Save yourself money and grief - Horrible Service & Experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 14 hours ago

was to stay here for two nights and booked my room. At no point in booking the room did they tell me that the night I would be arriving there was a Bears Game and the roads to their hotel would be closed. By the time I arrived in the evening ….my uber was unable to get me to the hotel so I had to get out and walk with my luggage for about 3 miles where thousands of game goers were walking in the opposite direction. When I checked in I asked about the game and the girl told me she forgot about the game. Yet later in the conversation she divulged that some guests there were staying to attend the game. I then asked if there was any food and she said no but I could order delivery. I asked how if the roads were closed. She said oh yeah that’s right. So now I had to go back and out on foot and walk to find something to eat. She asked me about what time I wanted breakfast the next day. I asked why I couldn’t just come down when I was ready. She said that I had to tell the chef what time I wanted food so it would be ready. I said can I call you and let you know whenever I get to my room? She said yes. We walked to my room up the stairs. She made me carry my luggage up the stairs after walking 3 miles to get there and I later found out they had a small elevator for luggage. After I got settled in my room I called down to tell her about breakfast. There was no answer. I tried 4 times. I finally went down and learned they don’t staff the place after the last guest checks in so no matter what you need you are SOL because there’s no one to help you. Before bed I wanted to take a shower. I ran my water when suddenly I noticed there was not a single towel in my room. I tore the room apart looking all over and there was nothing there. So not only could I not shower before bed. I couldn’t shower in the morning either because they still weren’t staffing the area before I needed to leave. Lastly - after the game let out - the game attendees made their way to the street the hotel is on to continue the partying. It was so loud right outside my window I couldn’t sleep. After all of this I decided to check out the next day even though I had already prepaid a second night and it’s not refundable. There wasn’t a key drop to be found so I had to leave my key on a desk in the lobby with a note I was checking out which by the way noticed on the same desk was a Manila folder sitting there with my name on it. It was my personal information just out there for anyone to see. I expected a call the next day from someone to ask why I left and possibly even an attempt to service recover assuming they care about their reputation or the guests experience. Alas I never got the call. They certainly accepted my money and kept what was not theirs because they gave horrible service the entire stay. I would not recommend this site for your visiting needs. There’s Just too many issues here for the amount of money they charge. Also in my room the bed was really far from the tv and the tv is really small.

Beautiful Historic Hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed August 17, 2022

This is a beautiful Historic Hotel in a nice neighborhood within walking distance of a lot of history. The rooms are well appointed and very comfortable, and the grounds are peaceful and relaxing. The hotel has bicycles you can use, which is wonderful. Festival was the hotel manager, david, who treats everyone like family. He noticed I had a flat tire, texted me about it, and then filled the tire with air and gave me a great suggestion on where to get it fixed a few blocks away. I also appreciated the parking spot that came with the room. Would go back in a heartbeat and highly recommend.

Perfect Girls Trip

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed February 15, 2022

My girlfriends and I were so excited to stay in the Wheeler Mansion this past weekend. We were enjoying some girl time and going to the musical "Hairspray". Well the mansion did not disappoint! This is a beautifully elegant boutique hotel. Each room had something different to offer as far as artwork and decor. To the grand foyer and beautiful antique pieces that lined the living room and dining room, it was such a joy to stay there. David the Concierge was excellent, very attentive, friendly and also drove us to the theater. David also suggested for us to eat at the Pilsen Yards for dinner. The food and service were excellent. I can't say enough about our time there, we will definitely go back, plus we want to see it in the summer because the grounds look just beautiful.

Beautiful Mansion Stay!!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed February 15, 2022

Had a great time visiting The Wheeler Mansion with friends for a girls weekend..We arrived Saturday afternoon, checked in, had a snack and off we went!!! First a Matinee at the CIBC Theater, which was just a short ride away. Then a great dinner and drinks at Pilsen Yards!!! David, the Manager at The Wheeler recommended the restaurant for dinner and secured our reservation!! It was such a great place!! Breakfast is included with your stay so no need to find a place!! We all were able to place our orders the night before, it was so delicious and convenient!!! We had plenty of time and space to visit in their beautiful sitting room!!! I would highly suggest a stay at The Wheeler when visiting Chicago!!! It’s a hidden gem!!!

Unique and Elegant

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed October 13, 2021

We were in town for only one day, and enjoy staying at boutique hotels. The Wheeler Mansion is not just a boutique hotel, but an elegant piece of history that has been very well preserved. Our host, David was very accommodating and made us feel right at home. The room was elegant and classy with a very comfortable bed. The breakfast was made fresh and served to order instead of being thrown out on a buffet table. We'll be back and stay a bit longer when we have more time. Thank you David!
