The Whitehall is a hidden gem in the crown of Gold Coast Hotels! This is continually, and I have been staying here for over 30 years. The hotel reminds me of the hotels in Switzerland, with old world charm, historic fixtures, and yes, even the small elevators! I love this place. Is it old? Yes! Could it be updated? Perhaps... but if you like the feeling of an older hotel, one steeped in history, this hotel is for you. It was once upon a time, at the top of the tier... there was once a private dining club, where Vincent Price and Ray Croc used to dine, and you will dine there too, if you have breakfast in the paneled room to the right of the breakfast buffet. As old as the hotel is, could it be haunted? Who knows... the atmosphere is correct, for such happenings, but try something while you stay here. Have the breakfast buffet and catch the eye of the young girl in the painting above the serving table. Once you do, no matter where you stand in the room, she will be looking at you... From comfortable rooms to an attendant staff, by the way, a very special hello, and thank you to Cheryl! My favorite front desk clerk in ALL of Chicago!!! She is always so kind, welcoming, and a true treasure! She makes the hotel for me, and has for several years! I highly recommend The Whitehall! Clean rooms, and great value, and walking distance to some of the best shops and restaurants in the city. Thank you everyone, for a truly wonderful stay!

We have just returned home from a 6 night stay at the Whitehall and we are glad to be home. On the first day, we closed the bathroom door from the outside and could not reopen it. A hotel employee was sent to investigate and all he did was force the door open, he recommended that we didn’t close it until someone came back to fix the issue, no one ever did. We struggled to get a good nights sleep during our stay, there is a service yard in close proximity to the side of the hotel we stayed on, each morning around 6:30am we were woken to the sound of bin men collecting trash, we didn’t appreciate being disturbed this early when on holiday. One morning after being disturbed, we then slept through our alarm and missed house keeping, when we asked at the front desk if someone could service our room we were told no by a rude member of staff. During our stay the room was cleaned once which we found unacceptable.

The building from Michigan Avenue is an undersized jewel for an hotel. The innards: worn, outmoded, like a junior cousin of the Drake. Rooms retain an elemental class, breakfast room crowded. Everything squeezed but a less procey choice in an overpriced district. An oasis among the vultures.

This is an independent boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Chicago. Very close to Water Tower and the Mag Mile. The hotel is cosy, the room was comfortable. The hotel had good service.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at The Whitehall Hotel in March. The property is lovely with an Old World charm, and the food is wonderful. We were treated well by every employee, from the desk clerks to the waiters. We have already booked another weekend and cannot wait to return!.
