Wonderful stay at Lucknam Park

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

We had a wonderful stay at Lucknam Park and would highly recommend it. A special thank you to Anna for her help with arranging the booking for my wife's birthday. She was incredibly helpful, and the attention to detail made the occasion feel truly special from the moment we arrived. The welcome we received was warm and thoughtful, setting the tone for a memorable stay. The food was excellent throughout, with high-quality dishes and great service. We also stayed in a Junior Suite, which was spacious, comfortable, and beautifully presented. Overall, a fantastic experience in a stunning setting. Thank you to Anna and the entire team for helping make my wife's birthday celebration so memorable.

A great and fabulous hotel, in finest fettle.

When you arrive at any hotel, anywhere in the world and at any time of day or night, how you are greeted upon arrival, makes a huge difference, not only to your impression of that hotel, but also to your stay, at that hotel. Top marks therefore, to 'Dan' at Lucknam Park. Upon our arrival, we were warmly greeted, made to feel important (very important) and given all the help we needed, without any fuss at all. What a great start to our stay at Lucknam Park. If you are considering Lucknam Park as your hotel for a quiet sojourn, a romantic getaway, or you love horses, swimming & tennis, you're on the right track. If you want to imagine you are staying as a house guest, in the country pile of some wealthy English landed gentry, you are again, on the right track. Accor (hotels) Group, through their 'Emblems Collection' brand, are offering a gem of an experience, at this luxurious and utterly charming hotel. Situated just north of Bath and in the west side of Wiltshire, you will experience England's green and pleasant land, at its very best. The hotel facilities are excellent. A large indoor and smaller out door swimming pool, both generously heated. A large health spa, with a range of wonderfully stimulating & hedonistic, self-indulgent treatments. Tennis courts and croquet on the lawns, to amuse all on lazy, sunny days. For accommodation, we were given a suite, in what was formerly the stable block. The rooms were large and handsomely furnished with period furniture and the widest & longest mahogany 'lit bateau'/ sleigh bed, I have even seen ! The bed was sumptuously comfortable, with highest quality bed linen. A complete dream to sleep in. The bathroom was a spotlessly clean delight, with a handsome, free-standing, double-ended, roll-top bath. Soaps & shampoos were fragrant and convenient. Perhaps its functional, as they were in dispensing bottles attached to the wall. When we stayed, their Michelin starred restaurant was closed. We did go into master chef Hywel Jones's restaurant room (he has held a Michelin Star for 20 consecutive years! ) . I can report that just this alone, was a beautiful experience. The restaurant is a wonderfully spacious and airy room, while still imparting an appealing cosiness. This allows you to concentrate on your company and especially what you are eating. A glorious room architecturally too, well worth just a look-in. On top of all that, the views from that restaurant room are not just beautiful, they are also glorious and inspiring. Great praise must be given to Lucknam's gardening team, for enhancing this wonderful parkland and the experience of guests/visitors to this place. Food: We dined at their 'Walled Garden' restaurant. It's a modern glass and steel structure with huge windowed walls, that can fully open, allowing the room to become one-with-the-gardens. Their hotel breakfasts are served in this room. Breakfast was delicious with all the 'usual suspects' available. Waiting staff paid attention as to how we liked our breakfast served and this was reassuring, as it shows the chef is cooking for you personally. The chef delivered, it was perfectly presented and deliciously tasty. What a great start to our day. We also had dinner at the their 'Walled Garden' restaurant. When your hotel has a Michelin starred kitchen on its premises, it has a knock-on effect to how they serve other foods at other restaurants they offer. Dinner was delicious and some delicious wines were also had. It must be said, that the prices at the 'Walled Garden' restaurant were very reasonable, similar cost to a normal 'pub lunch' in the UK. The food here is of exceptional high quality, good ingredients prepared and presented well. On top of that, the staff/waiting staff were all polite, helpful and courteous at all times. I understand (from our waitress) that they have garden barbecues here, and its certainly set up to make that an experience I'd like to one day, enjoy at Lucknam Park. The waitress reported that barbecues were 'sell-out' events. So phone in, enquire if the barbecue is on, then book it ! Rather uniquely, Lucknam Park has horses and an equestrian centre. I love horses and just seeing them on the hotel's parkland, gave this whole place a very special caché of charm you can only experience if you visit. You can also ride their horses. Unfortunately for me, I love horses too much, to burden them with such a monstrous task. I felt melancholy at leaving Lucknam Park, a wonderful place and I look forward very much, to returning.

I think you'll find enough brilliantly written reviews online which I won't be able to top. We flew from Frankfurt/Main to Birmingham ( Twin City ), picked up our rent-a-car and drove straight to Lucknam Park, my wife was impressed with the beautiful English country roads with the dry stones walls with trees left & right. The entrance to the Park driving along the driveway or ' Allee ' of trees , like driving through a tunnel. From the first minute entering the premisses/reception area we only encountered polite/friendly staff, same in the restaurant, we felt so at home so quickly. Of course you'll check their website and look at all the photos and read about the whole history of the place and the ' Michelin ' restaurant ' etc. We walked the grounds each day, you could feel the beauty of the place, no noise, no traffic, no airplanes overhead, but the sounds of different birds taking up the air space haha. We were lucky and managed to get a suite above the main entrance overlooking the lawn towards the ' Allee ' of trees. Our suite had a four-poster bed, large ensuite with double sink and walk in shower with a separate lounge with large flat screen , couch and writing desk etc which we didn't use. I could go on and on about the fantastic staff etc but I don't want do bore you, either you've already been there and know what I'm talking about or you might plan to visit the ' Park ' sometime, it's more than worth the visit. We fell in love with the place and plan to come back again in ' 27. Best regards from Dagmar & Damian from Frankfurt am Main.

Afternoon tea

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Lovely venue, garden and staff. Thank you to the staff, lovely team. A friend and I went for afternoon tea. We were well looked after and overall the tea was very pleasant but that price range usually indicates a particular kind of tea experience which would include such items as a good selection of fine patisserie rather than cake options. It would also suggest rather more imaginative sandwich fillings although the quiche and sausage roll were delicious. All was very fresh. I had been to Lucknam Park over ten years ago which may also have affected my expectation of a particular experience. Nonetheless I did enjoy the afternoon and would happily return as the staff and venue made it special.

Utterly disappointing

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

This review is for The Walled Garden bistro/restaurant We eat here several times a year with family and friends. We have had the odd disappointing experience before but nothing quite so dreadful as our most recent visit. We had lunch over the weekend with friends. We were telling them about how wonderful it is, the setting, food, service etc. We couldn’t have been more wrong. It took 20 minutes to be offered a drink after we were shown to our table. In fact we had to call out to a member of staff after everyone completely ignored us. It was not particularly busy and certainly nowhere near full with other diners. Our pre-lunch drinks came after about a further 15 minutes wait and the order was wrong. We waited another 20 minutes to order. When we ordered we were told 2 of the 3 special starters were not available, why weren’t we told this as we were given the menus! The waiter took our order and then came back twice to check what we had actually asked for. He had written it down so not sure why it needed checking. It just looked amateurish. When the food arrived two of our party had plates but two didn’t not. We had to call the waiter again to ask for plates. He literally sighed as he went to get them and came back with side plates. We had to then ask for proper dinner plates. It was almost farcical The food was very nice and the portions were a good size. All in all it was very disappointing and so far from what it should have been. For an establishment that charges top prices, the cost was £400 for four of us, it’s unacceptable It will be a long time before we go back and we will not be taking friends with us. With places like The Townhouse in Corsham opening soon and many other excellent restaurants in the surrounding areas The Walled Garden should not rest on its laurels.
