You might have to elicit the help of a local to find Hospes Palacio del Bailio – it’s hidden on a narrow, residential street that’s walking distance from Córdoba’s sights, but isolated enough to cultivate a dreamy, time-traveler’s fantasy. Built between the 16th and 18th centuries, the former palace is one of the city’s architectural jewels. As a hotel, it retains its historic bones – think stone arches, vaulted ceilings and intricately carved wooden doors – and adds modernist touches, such as the dark gray Sierra Elvira marble that encloses the bathrooms. In the courtyard, Roman columns frame a fantastic swimming pool.

The common areas of this hotel such as the breakfast room and pool are absolutely beautiful - really charming. The service was also excellent - highly attentive and eager to please. We had a wonderful breakfast that was very accommodating of our gluten free diet as celiac - delicious with excellent service. We found the room itself to be a little odd relative to the luxury of the common spaces - the furnishings seemed a bit dated and the bathroom set up was kind of odd - nothing wrong with it per se but not at the same level of luxury as their other spaces. In my booking research, I goofed in thinking that this place was right in the thick of things in terms of the sights in Cordoba - it's actually a solid 20-25 minute winding confusing walk from the hotel to just about anything. I personally adore walking, but in this area it was confusing too navigate even with Google maps open on the phone. It seemed like a lovely venue for people who wanted to enjoy it as an oasis in the area - we saw some private parties, etc., but I wouldn't pick it as a sightseeing base.

This was a stunningly beautiful hotel and we enjoyed every moment of our two nights here. Our suite was spacious and well appointed with gorgeous old frescoes from the time when the property was a palace. After a long day sightseeing we enjoyed massages and use of the roman baths. (personally wished water was hotter in the hot bath) All of our meals were delicious with the highlight being the tasting menu at Arbequina. (Many thanks to Juan and staff for staying late as we were the last table there) We hope one day to return to this beautiful property.

My boyfriend and I stayed at 6 lovely hotels throughout Spain and Portugal, and this hotel was a favorite. From the moment you enter, the staff was warm and welcoming. From the beautiful room, to the peaceful courtyard and incredible views of the Roman ruins, we couldn’t have been happier with our stay. We enjoyed the delicious breakfast, massages in the spa, and yummy cocktails in the courtyard. All of the sights, shopping and restaurants were within walking distance. We wished we could have stayed longer!

Our second stay at this beautiful hotel. Loved our room, spacious and clean. The breakfast buffet is amazing and we had a lovely evening meal in their restaurant. It's located in a very quiet area, a short walk from the centre and we felt very safe walking around the quiet streets. When we checked in the hotel reception was extremely busy. We felt in the way most of the time. No welcome drink was offered and no recommendations for the surrounding areas. As this was our second visit this was not a problem but it would have been a shame if this was your first experience/stay. Would still highly recommend.

What a beautiful hotel, the gardens, the decor! The staff were wonderful. We loved breakfast on a plexiglass floor above Roman ruins. Not so enchanted by the breakfast buffet, but to be fair, we were too lazy to order off the menu. We stayed in Dreamer’s room 15 that was an interior room, very quiet with comfy king size bed. It did take awhile for the water to heat in the shower. We reserved a free soaking in the Roman baths although I remained in the hot tub part. The hotel’s location was in a quiet area, 15-20 minutes walk to the main part of the historical center. The streets felt very safe. The hotel restaurant was quite expensive, so we ate at local places along the way. This was a great base for touring the city.
