Disappointing Experience for a High-End Hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

I stayed at Las Mañanitas for four nights and the experience was disappointing from start to finish. There was almost nothing to do on the property, no activities, no entertainment (other than the animals), nothing to make the stay feel special. On our first night we were “invited” to a members-only game night, which turned out to be one game and a bar tab. Hardly a perk. Restaurant service was spotty the entire stay. It was often difficult just to get a menu or get a waiter’s attention, while larger groups and VIP-type tables received constant service. It didn’t feel welcoming or attentive at all. The valet service was another low point. We arrived with a brand-new car in pristine condition, only a week old, and it was returned to us covered in bird droppings and dust. There was clearly no care taken with the vehicle. In-room amenities were handled poorly as well. Our room wasn’t restocked with basics like toilet paper, and the Kleenex was never refilled. Housekeeping even removed the empty box and didn’t replace it. When we asked the front desk for Kleenex in the evening, we were told they didn't have any, which is unbelievable for a hotel in this price range. The room itself also had comfort issues. The couch was extremely uncomfortable, with old, hard cushions that made it unusable for relaxing. And whenever we turned on the air conditioning, a terrible odor would fill the room, which made it difficult to enjoy the space at all. The only real event during our stay was on our last night, a mariachi band we had specifically planned our evening around. They played for about 15 minutes in the main area, then went around the restaurant playing private songs at every table except ours. We repeatedly asked the waiters to bring the band over, and despite watching them visit every other section, they never came. It completely ruined the night, especially because this was our anniversary trip. We really wanted to love this hotel. The grounds and rooms are nice. However, for the price and reputation of this hotel, the lack of activities, the uneven service, and the way we were ignored made the stay feel incredibly underwhelming. I would not return.

Noncompliance with Service Animal Regulations

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

We were on vacation from New Jersey and stayed one night at this hotel. In clear violation of the law, they charged an extra fee for my service dog's stay, even though we presented the official service dog certificate. They also restricted the dog's access to common areas, which is also against the law. Very disappointing experience.

Our Home Away From Home in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 months ago

This Beautiful Hotel is our home away from home in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico. We have been staying at this hotel for more than 15 years and we actually got married there 13 years ago. We love to take our family with us as well. It has beautiful gardens and a very upscale SPA from Orleans. The food is unique. They have Mexican and International options. Highly recommended to try the Tortilla Soup. The service is outstanding. They treat us like we are part of the family. Rooms are very nice and cozy. Many of these have fireplaces. Love this Hotel and Restaurant! It is like an Oasis in the city of the forever Spring, Cuernavaca, Morelos.

Very old rooms

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 months ago

The rooms are very old. Also, the rooms are not comfortable or cosy. One can argue that it’s a colonial building but even a colonial building could be modern and renovated on the inside. The furniture is old and with dark wood, very old fashioned. If I’d have to come back I wouldn’t stay in this property. I wasn’t expecting this from a Relais and Chateaux qualification. Very disappointing.

A wedding to remember!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 8 months ago

I’ve been going to this fabulous place since I was in my 20s & I’m happy to say that it’s just as wonderful now as it was back then. This time I got to see how Las Mañanitas does a wedding. My daughter & her now husband decided they could get more for less in Mexico so they close LM. Our wedding party, family & friends expressed their amazement at the beautiful grounds, the very comfortable & well appointed rooms, the delicious food, incomparable service & incredible wedding experience. My daughter & her husband & the rest of us tremendously enjoyed the actual wedding with mariachis, Mexican dancers, piñatas, fireworks & other fun things while surrounded by gorgeous floral arrangements in a tropical setting. Daniela, our wedding planner, did a great job in providing us third party vendors for all the music, makeup, etc, & our final selections really made the day one to remember. Whether it’s just a relaxing trip or a big event, you can’t go wrong with Las Mañanitas!

Cocinar Mexicano is an experience no one with a zest for learning Mexican cuisine should miss. The classes are well thought out and geared towards all levels of cooking knowledge. The entire program has a wonderful balance of time for classes, exploration and relaxation set in a magical village that leaves you wanting to make another visit immediately to hear the sounds and take in the aromas of Mexico at its finest.

We are still in a state of euphoria over our adventure with Cocinar Mexicano. This remarkable program combined a beautiful location, high level teaching skills, simultaneous Spanish/English translation, a fine kitchen facility, and lots of tender loving care. Now that we are home, we are paging through our recipes and photos, celebrating once again a superb learning experience.
