About the Hotel

Voted the Best Hotel in South America by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler, Belmond Hotel Monasterio deserves every accolade that comes its way. Built in the 16th century as a monastery on Inca foundations, this cloistered compound is located amid the historic splendor of Cusco, Peru. Most notably, the hotel serves as an ideal base for exploring the mystical ruins of Machu Picchu. Much of the original architecture of Belmond Hotel Monasterio remains intact, paying homage to its original seminarian occupants. In keeping with its intended purpose, the rooms and suites feature a mix of traditional and contemporary furnishings, with a gallery of religious art gracing the walls. Because of the high elevation, 11,000 feet above sea level, many of the rooms are equipped with an oxygen supplementation system for your added comfort.

Great Stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 14 hours ago

Everything was as expected for a 5-star hotel. It was Great. Breakfast was awesome. Service was excellent. The hotel was clean. I would return and recommend the hotel to anybody traveling to Cusco. Bar costs were a little inflated.

Holy Luxury! Made me feel like a very pampered monk!

Staying at Monasterio, A Belmond Hotel in Cusco is like stepping into a living museum of colonial and Incan history. Housed in a meticulously restored 16th-century monastery, the hotel seamlessly blends centuries-old architecture with modern luxury. The central courtyard, adorned with a 300-year-old cedar tree and vibrant gardens, offers a tranquil retreat from the bustling city. The on-site chapel, rich with gold leaf and colonial art, adds to the hotel’s unique charm. The rooms are thoughtfully designed, preserving historical elements and paintings while providing contemporary comforts. We had the oxygen enrichment room to ease the effects of Cusco’s high altitude. I cannot commend the attentive and personalized service for all of the staff members there any higher. The friendly doorman immediately made you feel special. The concierge team - all of them were super helpful. They answered all of our questions even before we arrived via email. They helped to arrange private driver for our excursions. We had to pop into the room and the housekeeping staff was cleaning our room. I saw him almost like deep scrubbing our shower screen. The complimentary mini bar was great when you get back and just want to unwind or you can join the pisco hour tasting in the beautiful courtyard. The servers in the bar and the restaurants were all great and recognised us. The breakfast selection was great showcasing a lot of Peruvian food. They added additional touch by offering us Peruvian coffee tasting experience and provided explanations about the beans. The dinner was great with staff able to explain the food. However they ran out of 2 items on the menu. This is truly a special hotel - made me feel like I was staying in a monastery. The location is excellent as just around the corner from Plaza Mayor. It does come with a price tag of course but feels worthwhile.

Unforgettable

When I arrived at the hotel, I was fortunate enough to be greeted by Brian. I wanted to get a reservation at the best restaurant in Cusco which was sold out. Brian worked so hard to make it happen. I greatly appreciate it that. I had a massage that was wonderful , every place I went within the hotel, be at the bar, the restaurants, even the reception area. I was always greeted with a smile at everyone just wanted to please.

Hotel Monasterio in Cusco is truly world-class. Cusco is about 11,000 feet in altitude, but they offer oxygen supplement in rooms. Everything is superb. The manager invited us to a special cocktail party on one night, very gracious.

My daughter and I enjoyed our trip to Peru immensely. We stayed at the Hotel Monasterio in Cusco and found it to be superb. We had a magnificent suite, the staff was perfect and the chef sent us a wonderful surprise birthday cake to our room.

We visited Peru and the entire trip was spectacular. Orient-Express hotels provided exceptional service and world-class accommodations. We stayed at the Miraflores Park Hotel, Hotel Monasterio, and Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. All three hotels had beautiful rooms, outstanding restaurants, and a helpful friendly English-speaking staff. From now on, Orient-Express will be at the top of my list for worldwide travel.
