Hotel du Golf Barriere Deauville

We have enjoyed stays at this hotel on more than twenty occasions at different times of the year. We love the location, the golf course and the Golf clubhouse for lunches which remain consistently good. Obviously over the years there have been changes at the Hotel. However, now we certainly cannot recommend the Hotel. The meals in the Restaurant used to be a true highlight. The cooking has deteriorated significantly over the most recent years. On this visit, despite having booked and paid for half board, after two evening meals we chose to eat bar food in the bar. The menu in the restaurant is very limited and did not change throughout our stay. On our second evening, we were served poor quality meat (tough and inedible) and potatoes. That was it, no vegetables, salad or even a garnish. The service is now very poor by ill trained staff. One waiter struggled to even open a bottle of wine. At breakfast, the only fruit available on at least two occasions was tinned pineapple chunks or compote (baby food puree). The Directors have removed the lovely internal floral displays, the previously beautiful exterior flowers are now minimal, there are no longer magazines or fruit in the rooms. The bedrooms are still impeccably clean, thanks to the extremely efficient housekeeping teams. The free shuttle into town is also good. The staff in the bar work hard, however we do not stay in an expensive hotel to eat in the bar. The hotel now feels rather ordinary and lacking any luxury. There are far too many dogs accommodated which definitely impacted on our stay, we ate breakfast next to a very large dog and his bowl of dog food. It is sad to witness the decline in this previously excellent hotel.

Rooms not air conditioned, shower pressure woeful and barely dog tolerant despite their €30 a night PER dog. Overpriced, disappointing, won’t be returning.

We booked here with a golf package. Unfortunately, the receptionist was not aware of the package offering at check-in, which didn’t make a very professional first impression. The hotel is very large, with surprisingly tiny elevators. There were many families with children, so it was quite noisy during our stay. The room was fine and had a nice view of the golf course and sea, but the lack of air conditioning during a heatwave made it very uncomfortable. Breakfast and dinner were ok, and we enjoyed the golf course. Overall, it was an okay stay, but we probably wouldn’t return because the hotel is too large for our taste and the absence of air conditioning is a major downside.

Only stay at this hotel if you are a golfer. It is in the middle of nowhere. Staff unaccustomed to 'tourists'. Emergency water issue. Hotel shut down. Relocated to Hotel Normandy in town. It was the best!

I stayed here during the Deauville Film Festival. I was given a beautiful large room, view of golf course. Plenty of closet space + espresso machine. The mattress is the Most Comfortable Mattress in any hotel I’ve stayed at this year (I’ve stayed in an estimated over 100 hotels this year) - so this says a lot! Room service was excellent (photo attached) Toilet separate from Shower. The hotel offered a shuttle service to/from city center which was extremely helpful. Rooms included complimentary Evian water and buffet breakfast. Concierge & Porter service is excellent.
