Reviews for Detroit Foundation Hotel

Made my son’s first concert weekend feel magical

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We had such a wonderful stay at the Foundation Hotel. The hotel itself is beautiful, the rooms are comfortable, the amenities feel luxurious, and the service was excellent throughout our stay. But what really made it special was the team, especially John, the concierge, who was absolutely wonderful to deal with. We were in Detroit to take our son to his very first concert, and John and the team went above and beyond to make it memorable. When we arrived, there was a note waiting for him, welcoming him by name and wishing him an amazing first concert, along with a little gift. He thought it was pure magic and kept asking us, “But how did they know I was coming?!” It was such a thoughtful gesture and turned a great hotel stay into a memory our family will genuinely keep. We loved our stay and are already looking for an excuse to come back to Detroit so we can stay at the Foundation again.

Great Location and atmosphere

The hotel has a great atmosphere and location. The room was spacious, excellent bathroom layout (especially the size of the shower).

Cool historic hotel, but not worth the price.

Pros: Location, cute boutique hotel vibe Cons: Price for level of service, room was loud, restaurant (Apparatus Room) was closed for a private party.

Staff is inconsiderate & patronizing

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Worst $500/night hotel I've ever stayed at. Broken A/C, 2:00 am room move. Bar & Restaurant closed for private event (that's fine), cant do room service. Won't provide an order of fries and a coke? Don't be in a hurry for your valet parked vehicle. Easily 10-15 minutes.

Downtown Detroit Gem

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Detroit Foundation Hotel. The adaptive reuse of this historic building is thoughtfully done, preserving its character while creating a stylish, comfortable hotel. Although we arrived very late (we messaged ahead), the valet was ready to park our car. The staff was welcoming and genuinely helpful, especially in explaining the history of the building and quickly addressing a thermostat issue. Our room was spotless, the bed and sofa were comfortable, and the Le Labo toiletries were a wonderful touch. We really liked the mixture of historic and industrial design. We were able to walk easily to restaurants, the Riverwalk, and the QLINE.
