This hotel really nice and wonderful. I came to celebrate my anniversary with my wife. But im fully impressed by the hospitality of this hotel . I would love to kindly mention Hajar from Vaya was so kind and professional. And Shuzi from front office made extra care and upgrade my room .

Breathtaking building, some super staff but terrible technology & lacklustre service - Deeply disappointed!

After a most amazing stay at The Waldorf Astoria West Bay it was time to stay at a property that has been on my wanderlist for the longest time.

The Fairmont Doha is housed within the famous Katara Towers. Based on traditional Arabic swords, one tower is the Fairmont property and the other is Raffles.

Driving up I was filled with excitement and walking into reception doesn’t disappoint. You cannot miss the modern chandelier, which is the world’s largest! You also cannot miss the gold inlay and such touches throughout.

Said warmly welcomed me and checked me in a most friendly manner. I had also, kindly been upgraded to a balcony suite.

Said also came to check how I was enjoying my suite as well as delivering my welcome amenities. He was incredibly courteous as were the rest of the reception staff; Aye, Nada, Shugyla, Mr.Christian & Hakima - Thank You!

After a quick self-taught lesson in using the elevators, complete with cream sofas I found my suite, on the 19th floor.

First impressions were it lived up to it’s luxurious (& Gold!) Impressions. It really has a Wow factor - on the surface!

Upon entering there is a wardrobe area, which also has a butler’s door for discreet deliveries. Next the Bathroom with huge tub and more lashings of Gold, including 24k in the door handles. Followed by a very swanky coffee machine and wine fridge, you then enter the sitting area and bedroom.

Using the power drapes I had not only a view into the Raffles tower but also the beautifully blue sea, and beyond. Unfortunately it was too windy to stay out on the balcony for long.

Throughout the suite the decor was in very calming white, beiges and creams. It was comfortable to sleep and lounge in.

Unsurprisingly the public areas are rather lavish. There are both indoor and outdoor pools, as well as a climbing wall! The staff at the outdoor pool kindly brought cool towels and iced water; it was 112 degrees!

Breakfast was great with plenty of choice and lovely serving staff. Then disappointedly it all started to go a bit wrong. Much is made of the expensive coffee machine in the room but it simply didn’t work. When I went to use it displayed an “Empty Drip Tray’ error message and despite having an engineer fix I (and I use that term loosely) it twice, it simply didn’t work and kept defaulting back to the above error message. A promised delivery of beverages, to make up for this didn’t arrive.

The TV in the bathroom turned on (and off) but like the coffee machine didn’t work. There was also a rather drain-like smell coming from the loo and shower.

Trying to get a bucket of ice took 4 attempts and many hours; at one point housekeeping pretty much accused me of not answering the door. I didn’t even have the TV on! I was told later that they were short staffed and this was impacting service standards. The Waldorf Astoria West Bay I am sure is in the same position but they delivered any request in a timely and courteous manner.

When I went to use my Platinum Drink Vouchers in the bar (Many of the eateries were closed, due to the ongoing Middle East issues) I was kindly informed by the very dapper chap who greeted me that to use the vouchers I would have to purchase a meal!

He did very nicely offer to see if he could send drinks to my room and he also suggested the Blue Cigar Bar at Raffles, which I went decided upon. When I got to Raffles and the bar I, was warmly greeted by name as the gentleman at the Fairmont had let them know I was on the way. The bar at Raffles was superb.

I really, really wanted to love The Fairmont but technology and service issues left a rather negative impression and a feeling of deep disappointment. .As the title alludes; some great staff, amazing surroundings but terrible technology.

I have had far batter stays at The Pullman West Bay and in a city of exceptional hotels the Fairmont really has to try harder!

The jury is out on whether I want to go back…
