José Felix at La Caña bar is the absolute best. He took care of me and my husband, and made sure we had the best trip. Martinis were incredible, service was even better.

Ten days at Casa de Campo at the end of April- our fourth visit, and absolutely not our last. We lucked into perfect weather, which meant we had every excuse to squeeze every last drop out of this extraordinary resort. And squeeze we did. The Golf Let's start where our hearts are: the golf. Seven rounds in ten days- no apologies. Both Dye Fore and Teeth of the Dog are breathtaking and brilliantly challenging, and I genuinely cannot pick a favourite. We played The Links as well- it doesn't have the views, but the conditioning is superb. Book your tee times well in advance; this is not a place where you want to leave anything to chance. Our caddies, Sergio and Gregorio, were outstanding- knowledgeable, patient, and great company. One small plea to resort management: flags from dozens of countries fly proudly at Teeth of the Dog- but no Canadian flag? We love the DR. The love deserves to be mutual! The Suite We stayed in the Premier Suites, and the room was everything a well-travelled golfer could want- spacious, beautifully appointed, with a walk-in closet I could happily live in, an obscenely comfortable bed, and blackout curtains that made sleeping easy. My one practical suggestion: a simple drying rack on the balcony would be a welcome addition. Draping wet bathing suits over patio furniture is a minor indignity the resort could easily spare its guests. The Spa Among the finest I've visited- and I've visited a few. The key is arriving early enough to work through the full hydrotherapy circuit: steam room, sauna, and cold plunge. After a long day on the course, that cold plunge is nothing short of revelatory. The quiet adults only pool was the perfect place to curl up with a book. The staff struck that rare balance of being genuinely warm without being intrusive. We left feeling like we'd been restored from the inside out. The Food Book your restaurants before you arrive- seriously, before, especially the night you arrive. Our favourites: La Piazzetta, La Casita, SBG, Chilango Taqueria, and Causa. But the crown jewel of our dining was breakfast at Lagos, with its sweeping views over the golf course and the ocean, fresh fruit bar and omelette station- the perfect way to ease into a morning. And there's something undeniably charming about hopping in a golf cart for dinner. The Grounds This may be my favourite hidden pleasure of Casa de Campo: the walking. The property is vast, beautifully maintained, and threaded with quiet roads and sidewalks. We hiked to and from the Marina, to the Beach Club, and one memorable day, walked all the way from Altos de Chavon back to the resort. The homes here are stunning, the tropical vegetation lush and transporting, and we always felt completely safe within this spectacular gated community. We're already looking forward to next year. More golf, more sunshine, more of that irresistible Dominican hospitality. We'll do the whole thing over again without changing a thing. Sometimes perfection deserves a repeat.
