Built in the 1950s by Laurance Rockefeller, Hyatt Hacienda Del Mar started life as an exclusive getaway for presidents and Hollywood's elite. Situated on a secluded crescent of beach on Puerto Rico's northern coast, just 22 miles west of historic San Juan, its cachet is enhanced with the magnificent Spa del Sol and 4 golf courses designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. The beautiful, airy accommodations include elegant casitas and offer ocean views from private balconies or patios. Spectacular dining ranges from the oceanfront Su Casa hacienda to the Zen Garden, serving fusion Chinese-Japanese.

We used this resort as our home base to explore the Island. PROS: * Staff (Fabian and Lenny to name a few). * Housekeeping- room cleaned every other day, if you needed anything in between all you had to do is ask *Pool Area-Nice area with huge main pool, a kiddie pool, and two hot tubs, along with 6 BBQ grills. Always loungers available. Beach Area- clean and just the right size. Plenty of lounge chairs. Rooms-Spacious with full kitchen (fully stocked) and a shared washer and dryer (laundry detergent provided) at a two room entrance. It’s great to come home with a suitcase full of clean clothes. CONS: *Smoking Area- I like a good cigar and the smoking area left a lot to be desired. It’s on the other side of a service road at end of resort. Most times there were two trucks parked directly in front of the bench. It also is not lit at night. That being said you could sit at the end of the beach away from people without a problem. A nice lit smoking area would be a plus. *parking lot and road into resort- This really bothered me for some reason. The road leading to the resort had pot holes and the parking area for non vacation club members is in need of a repaving. Also there is an old guard house you pass through when entering and exiting the parking lot… needs to be torn down. Overall this was the perfect place to use as a home base. We went to various locations on the island and nothing was more than an hour or so drive. Dream coffee (less than a mile down the road) had fantastic coffee and great breakfast. Downtown Dorado and Dorado beach had so many restaurants and both were a 10 minute drive. The full kitchen was a money saver as we had numerous meals in our room. There is a Super Max Supermarket a few miles from resort. Lastly the Mahi Mahi restaurant, I felt it was neither a pro nor a con. The drinks were good, but I felt it was more of a beach bar type of place and I really didn’t want to get full meals there. I couldn’t image staying for an extended time with that being the only meal option. If we ever come back to the island, we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

We spent 6 nights here and had an absolutely wonderful. Nancy at the front desk, and the entire staff, couldn't have been nicer. If we ever needed anything in the room, they ran it up right away. The views are absolutely gorgeous, and food and drinks at the Mahi Mahi Grill were delicious. We booked our room about 8 months before our stay and got a great deal. The rooms were clean and spacious.

WONDERFUL beachfront hotel! The suite we had was AMAZING! Only complaint is that there are no restaurants nearby, so you must have a car or use Uber for everything. The on-site restaurant is pretty good though!

Great stay—better than was expecting based on some reviews. This property was exactly what my family and I were looking for. Nice updated property with direct beach access, comfortable, modern, large rooms with plenty of space for my family of 4 (including a 10 & 12 year old). We stayed in 1 bedroom villa with full kitchen and separate sleeping area for the kids in living room. It’s not a large property so if you are expecting sprawling resorts like all-inclusive in Cancun and DR, with several restaurants and shops—this is not it. But if you are looking for smaller resort with easy pool and beach access that is fairly quiet, this is for you. There is only 1 outdoor restaurant onsite (that is run independently of hotel) but for us we mostly cook our meals and just go out for lunch so this was perfect for us. There were activities throughout the day (pool aerobics, bingo, sand castle competitions, etc.) but def not a place where there are entertainers with loud music. Again perfect for what we wanted. 50 min from San Juan, 45 min to Cueva del Indio, 50 min from Toro Verde adventure park, 30 min from Mar Chiquita beach so lots to see if you have a car. We are still here but I felt compelled to write a review bc we are just so so happy with our choice to stay here!! Would def recco and come back again!

I'd like to say first off I am a former Hyatt employee and a Hyatt CC holder with rewards. That being said this property was not your typical Hyatt. This is NOT a Hyatt resort. There are none of the typical Hyatt experiences available here. There are no restaurants on property except the pool beach cabana bar hut, no breakfast bar, no lobby bars or entertainment at all. The staff is no where near as attentive as a typical Hyatt resort staff. They just seemed uninterested. The property itself is very nice and well kept. There was some construction going on while we were there but it was not too noisy. Lovely beach with nice reef offshore. Nice snorkeling area too. We had a end corner room, very nice balcony and nice view. If you plan on staying here you must rent a car. It is in the middle of no where. There is nothing nearby to walk to like shops or restaurants, the road is frankly to dangerous to walk on to begin with.
