Great stay for families wanting to get away from busy San Juan

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Great resort a short drive from the hustle and bustle of San Juan. The property is well maintained with friendly staff doing their best to make sure guests have a great stay. We spent a week at this property while the entire island encountered a power outage and we were barely affected since the hotel ran generators. We even joked about the outage in the evenings with the security guard at the front desk who was always in good spirits despite sitting out front by himself in the dark. On the beach and around the pool, the staff were very attentive and added some nice touches like handing out pool noodles to kids and free ice pops. Elesier was really nice to our family and always made sure we had an umbrella to sit under at the beach. There is construction next door but the site seem pretty dormant while we were there. The only minor inconvenience is if you’re not a timeshare owner you are told to park at a visitor lot that is a short walk. This wasn’t a big deal because they allow you to stop near the lobby to unload bags or groceries and had shopping carts available. We plan to return in the future since it was a great experience for our family.

Relaxing and Family-Friendly

This wonderful property is a perfect combination of relaxation and low-key family activities. We walked on the beach every morning and swam in the pools at night. The facilities are well maintained. Lester and the staff at Mahi Mahi serve amazing drinks and food. The resort staff is welcoming, especially Elieser. This quiet spot is an easy drive from the San Juan metro area and is in close proximity to grocery stores. We will definitely be back.

Best resort for R & R. Went for 5 nights. The front desk personnel were friendly and accommodating. They also recommended a terrific tour guide ( Island Experience Tours )The rest of the staff were great as well. We booked a 1 bedroom villa. The room was spacious and clean with a great view. The food and drinks at the onsite restaurant were good. The property was clean had a large pool and a beautiful beach. Would definitely stay again.

Pleasantly surprised in Dorado!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

I was pleasantly surprised by the Hyatt Hacienda del Mar in Dorado, Puerto Rico. My husband and I booked our trip through Expedia and I was reluctant to go to Puerto Rico. I had been to Puerto Rico twice before and the last time, we also stayed in the Dorado area. I checked the Hyatt website after we booked our trip and the website said there may be noise at the hotel due to construction. I called the hotel and the representative was honest and said that on one side of the hotel, there is demolition occurring and there may be noise during day hours but it is not every day and not so bad. At this point, it did not matter because our stay was already booked. The size of the hotel is perfect. It is not huge so that one has to walk a lot and yet it is spacious. The property has beautiful grounds which include a tennis court and basketball court (by the parking lot, across the road from the main entrance). Parking is spacious and FREE which was a big plus for us since we rented a car this trip. The pool at the hotel has 8 laps (a must for my husband who loves to swim) and extends to an additional swimming area and another smaller pool (for babies and kids). There are two hot tubs (one on each side of the pool area). There are plenty pool chairs and seating areas. The landscaping is magnificent with palm trees surrounding the pool area. As far as hotel activities, there is bingo and meditation and other activities varying by day. The hotel grounds have a small soccer area and volleyball area and two bbq grills. The clubhouse has a game room for kids with air hockey, a pool table and other games. The gym is well stocked with lots of equipment and is open 24 hours a day (just use your room card). The pool hours are until 10 pm and the pool is well lit at night. The beach is private and magnificent. The hotel room we were given was a corner unit with a full kitchen, huge balcony and had views of both the pool and ocean. The staff was amazing and super helpful and friendly. There is a small bar/restaurant (not formal) that is privately owned - just right for cocktails and drinks and light meals. I highly recommend the Hyatt Hacienda del Mar. I hope to return soon. The hotel completely changed my views regarding Puerto Rico. It is definitely worth a visit!

First time in PR!

The hotel is nice and the rooms are large. We stayed there as a hotel, but it is clearly a condo situation. There aren't amenities like transportation, excursions, etc. I know this is normal for a time share type place, but as a heads up for those who will reserve it as a hotel like we did. The pool, beaches, bar & restaurant, all the staff -- top notch. Very friendly and accommodating staff, and the drinks are fabulous. Biggest piece of advice: rent a car. There is only one restaurant on the property, and while it's really good, you will likely want to try other restaurants and go to the grocery. Uber cannot find the property! They will tell you that when you check in. Taxis can be called, but the price adds up quickly. We will rent a car from the airport next time. All over, a great time!
