Built in the 1950s by Laurance Rockefeller, Hyatt Hacienda Del Mar started life as an exclusive getaway for presidents and Hollywood's elite. Situated on a secluded crescent of beach on Puerto Rico's northern coast, just 22 miles west of historic San Juan, its cachet is enhanced with the magnificent Spa del Sol and 4 golf courses designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. The beautiful, airy accommodations include elegant casitas and offer ocean views from private balconies or patios. Spectacular dining ranges from the oceanfront Su Casa hacienda to the Zen Garden, serving fusion Chinese-Japanese.

The location is stunning. The beach feels a little secluded and it was very swimmable during our stay. A car is a MUST! The property is 40ish minutes from San Juan and excursions to Culebra are about 1.5 hours away. The rooms are nice and clean. The staff was polite and responsive to room resupplies for coffee, towels etc… My only constructive comments are that poolside towel service would be a welcome addition, and even though the restaurant is independent they would make so much more $$ if they employed beach and poolside servers. We would come again.

Our stay at this hotel was wonderful. The room was exceptionally clean, and both the bathroom and pool towels were bright white and fresh. The beds were incredibly comfortable. The room we chose had direct access to the pool through the patio door, which was a fantastic feature. It also included a small living area with a dining table, a kitchenette fully equipped with everything we needed for meals, and a lovely patio breakfast area. The location was very convenient, close to shops and anything else we might need. The property offers several pools and hot tubs, but the highlight for us was definitely the beach. Just beyond the pool area, you'll find the restaurant and the beach. One section is perfect for swimming in the waves, while the far right side has a natural rock barrier that creates a calm lagoon-like pool. We spent an entire afternoon there enjoying the crystal-clear, calm water. It is ideal for children and for anyone who is not a strong swimmer. The staff provided excellent service throughout our stay. We also appreciated having access to washers and dryers to clean our swimsuits and beach clothes. Another feature we loved was the beautiful gated entrance with security. The drive to the buildings is scenic and well maintained, and the property also includes pickleball and tennis courts. Overall, this was an outstanding experience, and we would gladly stay here again.

This location was fine for my family. If you are the type to like to get-up-and-go, I would recommend renting a car. The hotel is about 45-60 minutes from Old San Juan, which is where we spent half our time. It was nice to go into Old San Juan and then come back and enjoy the property. The room and balcony was extremely spacious. I enjoyed having a full size kitchen in the room and a large dining table. This is a nice amenity for families that like to have some food to eat in their room, especially for the kids. The beach was nice and the pool was great. The property has beach and pool tops that you can use. The food and drinks served at the on-site bar/restaurant were generally good. They serve good size portions...so much so that me and my child.could split a meal. The only thing I ordered that I did not enjoy was the hummus. It tasted almost like it was previously frozen. It was like a hummus slushy and it also came with a honey drizzle. If the menu mentioned a honey drizzle, I missed that. Hummus is not difficult to make so I was surprised at the poor quality. My main complaint was the cleanliness of the room. The floors and baseboards were not cleaned. The day we receieved houskeeping, they did not leave any towels for us or clean the shower. There were ants everywhere in the kitchen, even after housekeeping cleaned and we cleaned. (I tried to upload a video, but tripadvisor won't accept the video so I included some screenshots of the video.) And there were some bugs in the bed (NOT bed bugs). I am sure they were in the bed because we started getting bit when we laid down. And we woke up with bug bites all over. We requested new bedding, which was provided, but we still had more bites the next day. This may not be too much of an issue for some people but if you have a severe allergic reaction to bug bites, beware. Bring your allergy medicine and hydrocortisone (we did and it helped). Lastly, I think there should be a better system to get your beach towels. You have to request new towels from the front desk. On our way back from the pool one night, we requested new towels. We did not receive them the same night, and had to wait 30 minutes the next morning for them after we called for them again.

We used this resort as our home base to explore the Island. PROS: * Staff (Fabian and Lenny to name a few). * Housekeeping- room cleaned every other day, if you needed anything in between all you had to do is ask *Pool Area-Nice area with huge main pool, a kiddie pool, and two hot tubs, along with 6 BBQ grills. Always loungers available. Beach Area- clean and just the right size. Plenty of lounge chairs. Rooms-Spacious with full kitchen (fully stocked) and a shared washer and dryer (laundry detergent provided) at a two room entrance. It’s great to come home with a suitcase full of clean clothes. CONS: *Smoking Area- I like a good cigar and the smoking area left a lot to be desired. It’s on the other side of a service road at end of resort. Most times there were two trucks parked directly in front of the bench. It also is not lit at night. That being said you could sit at the end of the beach away from people without a problem. A nice lit smoking area would be a plus. *parking lot and road into resort- This really bothered me for some reason. The road leading to the resort had pot holes and the parking area for non vacation club members is in need of a repaving. Also there is an old guard house you pass through when entering and exiting the parking lot… needs to be torn down. Overall this was the perfect place to use as a home base. We went to various locations on the island and nothing was more than an hour or so drive. Dream coffee (less than a mile down the road) had fantastic coffee and great breakfast. Downtown Dorado and Dorado beach had so many restaurants and both were a 10 minute drive. The full kitchen was a money saver as we had numerous meals in our room. There is a Super Max Supermarket a few miles from resort. Lastly the Mahi Mahi restaurant, I felt it was neither a pro nor a con. The drinks were good, but I felt it was more of a beach bar type of place and I really didn’t want to get full meals there. I couldn’t image staying for an extended time with that being the only meal option. If we ever come back to the island, we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

We spent 6 nights here and had an absolutely wonderful. Nancy at the front desk, and the entire staff, couldn't have been nicer. If we ever needed anything in the room, they ran it up right away. The views are absolutely gorgeous, and food and drinks at the Mahi Mahi Grill were delicious. We booked our room about 8 months before our stay and got a great deal. The rooms were clean and spacious.
