Two and a half hours from London, in the mid-Dorset village of Evershot, Summer Lodge Hotel is a captivating retreat. This privately owned luxury property, which includes the 300-year-old Ivy Cottage, derives from an 18th century manor house renovated by architect and author Thomas Hardy. Recent enhancements add contemporary allure to this venerable country hotel and Relais & Chateaux associate, as do a catering staff and acclaimed cuisine with vintage cellar selections.

My husband and I have just had three wonderful nights here. The staff were really friendly, kind, and efficient. Breakfast was really good in the conservatory, our evening meal was excellent, coffee afterwards in drawing room peaceful, quiet, staff so lovely, even had surprise treat of sweets . We enjoyed the pool too. The grounds were so peaceful and relaxing, loads of seating in lots of little quiet areas. Lovely to walk around, swing seats for more relaxing. Drinks on patio lovely and with complimentary biscuits. Our room was lovely, with a lovely comfy bed too. We can't wait to come back..

Wife and I were here for three nights for a mid week break. It was an excellent choice of place to stay. Our experience was rather like a traditional English hotel should be. A personal greeting on arrival at the car park, luggage transported to the room, bubbles and nibbles in waiting in the room, and there was always the feeling that the very professional staff were there ready to be of any service. The restaurant was formal but nevertheless relaxing. We dined there on two nights and the third night at The Acorn nearby which is owned by the hotel. Once small criticism is that the menu is limited, which is OK, but it does not change so the choice for a multi nights stay means there's likely to be some repetition. One other thing: the hotel's website is excellent and in particular is a must use for local things to do, go and explore etc, and so well organised too. One final nice touch: for our journey home we were given a small carrier bag with water and nibbles for two, super! All in all, we though that this was a superior and totally enjoyable experience at Summer Lodge Hotel.

Had a wonderful t2 night stay at the The Summer Lodge Hotel. A beautiful country house hotel and really welcoming to dogs. The staff are very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Excellent dining experience so we will definitely return.

We arrived on Friday 11th, not ample parking but just enough. The sun was shining, and the hotel looked amazing, we were greeted by the concierge who helped with navigation to the reception, where meet and greet took place, and a familiarization tour . Our room was air-conditioned a long with a welcome pack. Everyone was nice welcoming, professional, and above all, nothing seems to be any trouble. Therest of the day was atmospheric divine, balling water features croquet lawns, the list is admirable. And I must add, on departure we had a travel pack gift for our home journey. Thank you. Enjoyable hundred. We will be back.

This was a complimentary return visit following the one we made last summer where we had some issues regarding customer service. Pleased to say this was much improved. Treatments were great and the therapist went out of her way to ensure we were comfortable. The cream tea was great and the scones deliciously light.

Summer Lodge in Dorset, England is a class above the rest. Our room had a copper bath with a book holder, a candle holder and a holder for two champagne flutes—that’s what I call attention to detail. The food is of Michelin-starred quality. The staff is attentive and professional, like the French sommelier who guided us towards more obscure and daring vintages, and hit the spot each time.
